UK visitors... planning a trip for 2018 booking help needed! - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

UK visitors... planning a trip for 2018 booking help needed!
Hiya everyone!!!
Wow it's a been whole since i visited here... well.family and I are planning a big trip to Disney for July 2018.. (2 weeks on property tickets and Disney dining (not quick)) all 11 of us 7 adults 4 children age range 11-3 Were getting prices and they are insanely expensive like £29k!! Is this the going rate for disney these days?? Walt Disney travel company havent got the flights for our dates yet but the week before is way to expensive so.im not holding out to much hope with them.
My last visit was November 2013 and when we booked that we got a really good deal. I didn't realise Disney had increased prices so much 😕 and help and advice much appreciated!!
Hmm, if the £29,000 is a price for 11 of you, I'd say that's about right, considering what my nephew was getting priced out a week ago. It's him, his wife and two children and off-peak, they were looking at £6,000 for a value or moderate for two weeks. Of course, if you're going school holidays, it will be even more expensive.
I'm a bit concerned by the fact that the Walt Disney World Company don't have flights. They're should be out now, as Virgin and BA both publish 11 months ahead (unless you're coming back in August?).
I'd shop around and see what you can get. Try separating out tickets, hotels and flights and see if that's cheaper. Try other travel agents - Thomson, Thomas Cook, Virgin etc. and see what they come up with.
Also, are your dates set in stone? You may find being able to leave even a day or two earlier may make all the difference, especially around school holidays.
Don't forget Disney haven't necessarily increased prices that much. Sure they've gone up since your last visit, but equally the pound has nose dived against the dollar, which makes going abroad much more pricey. Every British travel agent has to buy their tickets/hotels etc. from Disney in dollars, so it's going to be more expensive.
Yea £29k was all of us and we are returning in August around the 9th/10th depending on when we go, we ufortunately have to go in the holidays as my niece is starting high school in Sept so we can't take her out of school.
We will keep looking and try and get a better price, we've been given a better price at Caribbean but were reluctant to stay there with the major work that's being carried out.

Ah, in which case, you're probably a few days early to get flight prices, but try Virgin/BA etc. and see if they have their prices out yet. Usually, if you're going to get a good deal on flights, it's in the first few days they go on sale....

I fully get that. That was the advice I gave my nephew as well. I wouldn't want to stay there with all the work.

Thanks for your help☺
No problem. Just another thought - have you thought about looking into renting DVC points? It may or may not be cheaper, but that was you could look at getting a couple of two-bedroom villas (they each sleep eight) or a two-bedroom and a one-bedroom villa. Old Key West doesn't take that many points and it's way nicer than any moderate....
Hey, yea I priced up renting the points and it was pretty cheap, I managed to get reasonable flights too the only problem I found was adding the tickets and dining on i couldn't get an accurate figure and then read the owner has to do it and it can be expensive. I worked it out on 3 studios at animal kingdom lodge.
I've used Travel City Direct in the past, the Virgin owned but a lot cheaper than going with Vifgin. They're only available online and telephone, no branches to go into again they might not have the flights out yet but maybe worth a look there?

Is it worth you adding the dining plan on? I ask only because I don't know how much it honestly saves you these days... We only get the Deluxe Plan which does save you some money and DVC members also save money on it at certain times of the year.
With the tickets, it could be worth looking at other ticket brokers, such as Attraction Tickets Direct. I've used them for non-Disney tickets (we get great Annual Pass rates through the DVC) and they've always been the cheapest.

Hiya, we've booked with Travel City always in the past but this year they are loads more than other company's like ridiculasly expensive!
We wanted it this year as we wanted to do some character meals and they're pretty expensive without the dining plan, we've had it before and found it good.
If we were too rent DVC points can we buy tickets from any ticket broker? Am I right in thinking dining has to be done buy the dvc owner?

Dining plans would have to be added by the DVC owner, but as far as I'm aware, you can buy tickets from anywhere.
So after a hugely extensive search we've now decided on Disney's Old Key West again (last stayed in 2010) we've tried all avenues and couldn't get a good price within our budget. However for old key west, we've got a price were happy with.. it's over budget but compared to value and moderate it's a good deal. We tried booking with Disney and buying our own flights.. way too expensive. We contacted all the tour companies we know.. We tried renting vacation club points but once adding tickets and flights it was way too much. So we found the best deal. we had a think and decided to find the best deal for Old key west and now we have to hope and pray the price hasn't changed and it's still available when we call first thing tomorrow morning.. fingers crossed!!
I hope everything works out for you. Although I've never stayed at OKW, I've always thought it looked like a lovely resort and would love to try it sometime.

Thank you! We managed to book and it was cheaper than before which was amazing. 310 days to go!
We love Old Key West, it is so pretty. Well done on finding the deal that suits you! We've been going for many years now and find that every year the price goes up by around £300 for the two of us ........
