As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

When the first plane hit, I was in my living room, brushing DD Kathryn's hair (I put it up into 2 pigtails, using pink pony tail holders).
I watched the 2nd plane hit as I was finishing putting her hair up - and I tried to convince myself that it was a pilot who was distracted by the first plane's crash. I know, naive, but I really did not want to, nor could I have imagined the reality.
I had an appointment with our family lawyer, so I took DD Samantha (it was a meeting for her) and DD Lauren (she was 3) with me. His secretary and I went to the Starbucks down the street to get coffee for everyone. The Starbucks was full of people - and there was not a sound in the entire place. Everyone was focused on the television in the corner. I know there were over 100 in there (It's a HUGE Starbucks). Eeriest experience I've had.
I dropped my kids at school. I heard the news on the radio as I pulled into work and changed from CD to radio. TV (with terrible reception) was on in my office when I entered so we watched replays.
I had just had major surgery and was home recuperating . I had just sent my children off to school and saw it unfold on television. A horrific day for America !
I was watching the Today show. DS, who had just graduated a few months earlier, came downstairs and we sat together and just watched in shock of what was happening. I cried and can still very easily cry when I remember that day.
I was on hall duty at school, wondering where my normally punctual student teacher was. She was checking into the office when the first plane eat the World Trade Center. As soon as she realized what was happening, she rushed to me and the other 2 teachers on duty to let us know. We all four then moved to a nearby classroom where another teacher had the TV on, so I did see the second plane hit live. We were overwhelmed and shocked. The rest of the school day was hours and hours of watching the TV and consoling my students. Such an incredibly sobering day.

My dh and I were driving to the store, hearing it on the radio turned around to get back home. Rushed in to the TV and stood there watching as the second plane hit. Soon after they sent our daughter home from highschool, and we ran to my sons middle school to bring him home, had to have our family together.
I was on the bus going to work when I heard about the first plane from a guy on the bus who was talking to his girlfriend on the phone. Then when I got to work the tv in the lunch room was turned on and tuned to to I believe CNN.

In a Journalism class in college. We had tv's outside the room and we all ran outside to see what was happening. I was worried my mom was in Rota, Spain in the Navy and worried for her safety overseas.
I was teaching my 3rd graders when my principal came in and told me about the attack. When the plane hit the pentagon I absolutely lost it emotionally. My parents were on vacation in Washington D.C. and I kept thinking what's next. I was a wreck until I drove to D.C. to pick up my parents. They had flown there and couldn't find a way to come home.
I was at home with my infant daughter and toddler son. It was so scary and sad.... My husband ended up coming home early because of what was going on.... And he picked up our oldest son from school on the way home who was in pre-school at the time....
I worked at a call center at the time selling custom business forms and stationary. I was in charge of the internet sales at the time. I was checking for orders when a news bulletin came up. I couldn't believe it. The phone lines went silent. I showed the bulletin to the person next to me and people started coming over and reading it. We were shocked. As word spread, people who had relatives/friends in NYC started to worry and wanted to leave work.
What I remember most was wanting to go collect my kids and hold them close. DS was in the day care across the street and my DD was in elementary school. The company I worked for had a division in Canada and they all volunteered to take our phone calls so we could leave work.
I was at Law School in Pittsburgh standing outside on the school's steps awaiting the time to go in for my 10 o'clock class. By the time the school opted to cancel for the day we were very concerned about getting out of the city and to home bc they closed all the bridges and tunnels as a precaution. Other than being concerned about getting home I was most worried about a close friends family/grandmother who all love in Manhattan. It took him to approximately 8 pm for reaching her and she said she could see it all from her condo window. So scary. He wanted to go home to her but she convinced him not to.
I am editing my post to add that I called my cousin as soon as I possibly could to ensure that she was not at the Pentagon on this particular day - thankfully she was not. Being a top civilian working for the Navy she travels to the Pentagon on a regular basis usually once a week.
