As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

... from a business!
Back story: Six weeks ago, I took my car in for an oil change. I had a coupon from a nationally known company. As is typical, in addition to changing the oil, they found a number of other things that I "really needed." One of the things was new front tires, and because we were going on a day trip the next day, I bought them, had them mounted and balanced, etc.
Fast forward to this weekend, when I noticed one tire looked like, I thought, it needed air. DH said, "No, it's flat. You must have driven over something." He checked the psi on both new tires; one was 17, the other was 11(!), when they should be 32-33. We took them back to (unnamed store) to see what the problem was. As we're waiting in line, I heard the counter lady say to a customer ahead of us, "You didn't buy the road warranty." I, jokingly, said to DH, "Watch, that's how they're going to get out of this." Sure enough, she said it to me as well, but assured me, they would check it out, and depending on the issue, there might not be a charge.
3 1/2 hours later (thank goodness I elected not to wait), I get a call that my car is ready. The cause of the problem was a leak due to "corrosion." I asked, "How did it get that corroded in 6 weeks?" The counter lady agreed that sounded strange and went to check with the manager. He came out and said, nonchalantly, "It's corrosion. It happens with normal wear and tear." I asked, "Didn't you check for that 6 weeks ago when you put on my new tires?" He made some comment about the warranty, but that's when DH lost it.
"You mean to tell me, you didn't check for that when you sent my wife out to drive on those tires? But if I had bought your warranty, you would have? That's ridiculous!"
The manager turned to the counter lady and told her there was no charge. Ok, I thought, good customer service. However, he proceeded to tell her to remove us from the roster. "There are a 1000 other (unnamed stores); they can go somewhere else. I don't need this."
What kind of way is that to run a business?? He didn't even spend 5 minutes with us, didn't apologize, or even try to explain what had happened.
While we were there, I tried to get DH to calm down. But in retrospect, I realize he was right, even if he did express his opinion a little "forcefully!"
Anybody else ever been "fired" like that?

We had a car with a recall on the tire rims because they were rusting. Well we paid extra when we got the car with chrome rims. When I asked them how do chrome rims rust they looked at me like I was nuts. They wanted to charge me a surcharge for replacing the rims but I acted up and they got rid of me quick with no charge. You have to open your mouth even if its for only 20 bucks.
I went to one of those places with my daughter's care because it is close to my office. They charged twice what my trustworthy local mechanics do so that was the first and last time for me.
I wouldn't worry about being fired. I would find someone I trust. Auto repair is one of the few areas of business with lots of individually owned options still around. And in my experience, they are usually cheaper . And no hard sell about what else you need.

The fact that they didn't charge you and could only be insulting tells me they Knew they were in the Wrong! They were busted! My DH would have pitched a fit too.
If they're a major franchise, I think I'd contact the home corporate offices to file a complaint.

That was my thought too. I was stunned at how quickly he was to just write us off. After all, he doesn't know who I know, or who I could tell about this incident. His behavior could easily cost the business real money.
Have never been fired from a business but my parents owned one for 27 years and my dad did have to throw out a handful of customers and tell them not to come back over the years. Never for anything like what you experienced.
I wasn't fired from a business, but I did have one call the police on me.
Remember VCR players? I took mine in to get fixed/cleaned. When I went back the day it was ready, the owner tried to give me a VCR player that wasn't mine. We argued and when showed him the slip to prove him wrong, he got mad. He said, "I won't take a check from you." I had just had them fix my mom's VCR player and they had taken a check from me then but I said, "whatever, I'll got get cash."
I went to the bank to get the cash and was talking to the teller about it. She asked me if I wanted the money in change and small bills. So, I got the $80 in dollars and change. When I went back to the repair store the owner refused to take the payment. I said by refusing to take my cash he was stealing from me. He didn't like that and asked if i want him to call the police on me. I said sure, go for it and so he did!
Poor owner called the police on a person who knew every police officer in the city because they worked at the waterpark with me on their off days. It was fun listening to the two officers give the owner grief!
