"Mirror, Mirror..." Which Resort Is Fairest Of All? - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

"Mirror, Mirror..." Which Resort Is Fairest Of All?
It's a resort beauty contest! Which one do you think is the prettiest?
Not just which has the most attractive rooms although you may certainly include "inner beauty" if you like. But, which resort is the most gorgeous to look at overall? The one that would have the Wicked Queen envious as anything.
Please answer the four-year-old's favorite question--Why? Why? WHY?--in your reply and have FUN deciding.
As for my choice, noooooo, it's not the one you'd think, those who know my personal favorite resort. Not sayin' just yet...

I was going to say The Polynesian, but other than the beautiful grounds and beach, the actual buildings themselves aren't that great to look at. So I'm going to go with my favorite moderate, Coronado Springs. Not only do you have beautiful grounds, but you also have the Casitas with the fountains that are particularly beautiful at night. Love all the colors and landscaping of the different buildings too. The bridge over the lake and the little beach area all add up to a beautiful resort.
I haven't actually seen all of them inside and out, but based on my current knowledge, I would choose Boardwalk. I just love the atmosphere of that entire area. The color scheme, inside and out, is quite appealing to me. I love the lake that surrounds that area. It's quiet, with the boats circling around from the resorts to the parks. I also love the location of the Boardwalk. Yep, that's my pick.
What a question to ask - and it's one I don't have an answer for. I've been to all of the resorts - some of them very briefly for pennies - but don't know which one I would choose for best looking. It's almost like comparing apples and oranges IMO. If all the resorts had similar themes, then I could probably pick one as being better but there are so many different themes and the look fits that theme so I can't compare the Polynesian with say the AKL. I like the look of each one for what the theme is, KWIM?
Oh, tough question...I'm sorry though, I have to say it is a tie for me between GF (especially at Christmas, that tree is amazing!) and AKL. I love the cozy warmth of AKL and the animals being right there and the GF is just so grand and bright, I love the overall look and having the water right there.
We love POR - the buildings and landscaping are beautiful.
However, we recently visited AKL and I think it is beautiful as well, and I've only been once a long time ago but I remember WL being great as well.
I agree with the comments above that some are hard to compare because the various themes are so different. I think each resort is great in its own right!
Kinda hard question.............What is Beautiful? People find beauty in many different ways, forms what have you........I think the lobby of GF is quite beautiful, I think the grounds at the Poly are beautiful, I think the Magnolia Bend buildings at POR are beautiful, the awe of walking into AKL........again quite beautiful. I don't think I could ever pick out one resort as the MOST beautiful. If I had to pick just one...........well I will have to wait until I have seen them ALL

My choice is POFQ for its hints of Mardi Gras fun and excess. I love the bright Mardi Gras colors contrasted with the French elegance of the buildings' wrought iron railings and surrounded by the lush landscaping.
While I certainly agree the GF is light, bright and lovely, I think Disney did a good job suggesting various elements of New Orleans architecture and atmosphere at POFQ.
That said, I think the room decor doesn't quite make it. Nor do I like my room to open directly outside--two major reasons I don't care to stay there.

I like this question! It IS a difficult choice because there are so many different themes and things to consider...the Beach Club is fun and has an almost "refreshing" atmosphere, I agree that Coronado Springs is especially beautiful at night (with the lights reflecting off the water!), Wilderness Lodge almost reminds me of my childhood home in the North Woods of Wisconsin...I've been to many of the resorts, even if only for a meal or a drink, and I'd have to say I love them all for many reasons, but I think the most beautiful of all for me will always be the Grand Floridian. The ambiance, the beautiful architecture, and to me, the most relaxing atmosphere of them all. To be able to sit and enjoy my meal looking out over the water at the castle, to relax in the lobby listening to jazz or a local choir singing Christmas carols, to stroll the grounds hand-in-hand with my DH (which we don't typically do anywhere else!) just makes this the most beautiful resort anywhere on earth!
I vote for AKL. The lobby is just stunning, Jiko's sunset on the savannah decor is beautiful. Even the pool area has lots of pretty trees. Plus, there's the animals.
