Which Disney snack(s) have you tried and just not liked as much as you thought you might? - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Which Disney snack(s) have you tried and just not liked as much as you thought you might?
After hearing that pineapple Dole whips were now non-dairy, I was so excited to be able at last to try one since I'm dairy intolerant and can only handle a small amount of dairy occasionally. I ordinarily save my dairy indulgence for a buttery croissant or creme brulee over anything else, that's for sure!
Practically everybody raves about pineapple Dole whips, it often seems, and I seriously love pineapple.
I finally got one.
:::: BIG sigh ::::: Seemed vaguely oily with a slithery-icky texture and didn't taste much like actual pineapple to me.
Which became your "Tried it once. Once was quite enough"?

The Dole Whip wasn't all that for me, either. (I think there was an orange flavored one that I liked swirled?) Nice, but not necessarily worth the calories.
The real disappointment was the chocolate-covered frozen banana at DLR--it looked yummy, I like both chocolate and banana but....you could chip a tooth on that thing!
I had an Olaf's pretzel (or something like that) at Olaf's snow fest at DLR in December...didn't get to eat it immediately; at medium-warm temperature it was just greasy and yucky, even dipped in cheese. Disappointing!
Mickey Bars and Mickey ice cream sandwiches, now, those are good!
EWW, that does not sound right. Dole whips have never been "oily" at all. They are smooth like soft serve and taste like pineapple sherbet. If this is how they are now, I say put the dairy back into it!!
The first time we tried a Mickey Bar, we thought they were totally gross. The chocolate tasted like it was powdered chocolate and I don't remember even being able to taste the vanilla ice cream. Last year, they were "free" because of our Frozen Summer Fun and we gave them another try. They're still not the greatest but they tasted better than the first time we had them (and "free" didn't hurt either).
Turkey legs - so gross even Lenny won't eat them and the list of what he won't eat is very, very tiny. But these are on it now.
For me - the citrus swirl in Adventureland. We don't like Pineapple so tried this one instead. I thought it was listed as orange sherbert swirled with vanilla ice cream so I wanted to try it. Well it wasn't - it was frozen orange juice which is something I absolutely cannot have.
Haven't really tried too many of the snacks at WDW. DH isn't a big snack eater so I usually don't bother getting any either. I have tried a Dole Whip a couple times and they're OK, nothing that great. Neither of us cared for the pistachio ice cream from L'Artisan des Glaces in France.
Don't care for the chocolate cake dessert that they serve in so many of the quick service spots. Thought the cobbler at Columbia Harbour House was gross. I think the worse snack I've ever tried though is the Mickey Mouse rice krispy head....disgusting!

Funny how much people's tastes differ, huh?
The chocolate-dipped Mickey krispie treat is my absolute favorite Disney snack.
Weeelll, then again, more like a close second to Werther's caramel popcorn. That is just such super-fantastic buttery-yummy caramel popcorn. ::::drool:::::

I tried one in Nov. '13, so if you've had one since, it was just that I didn't like it.
I dunno. It's really hard to describe. Decent soft serve goes down as you said smoothly and feels like more a very velvety ice cream to me. It feels more like whipped cream than ice cream going down is how I'd describe it.
The Dole whip I had felt more like eating Cool Whip than regular soft serve to me, kind of oily like Cool Whip. Not grossly "Ooooh! Ugh! YUCK!" oily but feeling weird in my mouth like I think Cool Whip feels. Slithery.

I don't like turkey legs - they always smell better than they taste. And I don't like the rice crispy treats - if you can get them fresh, they aren't as bad - but the packaged ones just taste stale. I was a bit disappointed in the Ice Pop at the French outdoor kitchen at the F&GF and the Frushi (Japan) was good, but would have been better if it were colder.

Well, they are basically Mickey-shaped rice crispy treats, same as we make at home, and my family regards them as a respectable breakfast item. We even brought a dozen home last trip, trading in credits for QS meals my husband missed because of illness.
Dole Whips we absolutely love. We only get the pineapple DW float with pineapple juice, which we find refreshing and sweet without being cloying. Not fluffy at all, in my view and its not meant to have the same texture as soft-serve ice cream; its more like a very smooth ice (my husband suggests more like a Slurpy in texture than an ice cream cone). Only 140 calories in a serving, minus the pineapple juice, dairy-free and vegan to boot.
Now turkey legs: never mind. Just the smell puts us all off. And the ice cream bars are nowhere near "premium." Premium is Dove. Sadly, Mickey bars are more like store brand generic, although that doesn't stop my son from having a few each trip.

Disney's taste way sweeter than any I've ever made myself and then the additional frosting on top is too much. I find them so sweet, they are disgusting.
Interesting to see how everyone's tastes differ. I suppose that's the reason why there is so much variety of treats at WDW.
I've never tried the Dole Pineapple Whip at WDW. I've had some back home, and it's not really something I'd go out of my way to get again. As for the Mickey's Rice Krispy Treats, I agree that the freshly made ones are pretty good, but the prepackaged ones, not so much. Still, they are great souvenirs to bring home, when you have leftover snack credits. I haven't actually tried a Turkey Leg, but my older DD and niece love them. I'm also not a huge ice cream person, but everyone else in my family enjoys the Mickey Bars. Perhaps it's more because they are shaped like Mickey and not because of the actual taste.
School Bread in Norway. After hearing faves about it, I decided I had to get one. It was long ago so I can't remember exactly why I didn't like it, but I know that I didn't finish it. I recall it being quite bland, nothing really remarkable at all.
