I've turned 30. What am I going to do next? I'm going to Disney World! But, SHHHH it's a secret! - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I've turned 30. What am I going to do next? I'm going to Disney World! But, SHHHH it's a secret!
Hello Everyone!!! Ahh, it's been awhile. So so much going on. Husband is finishing school (yay!!!), I've been volunteering and was briefly babysitting, and DS Aiden has been going to Cub Scouts (where I'm the Den leader now) and doing all sorts of things. It's just been one of those things where life got in the way. But it seems we have a breather right now, so I'm back!
So, the purpose of this trip. Well, the title pretty much sums it up. I turned the big 3-0 in January. Instead of being afraid of getting older, I'm embracing it! Besides, 30 is the new 20, right? Well, I'm ashamed to say that I haven't been a very good Passporter lately. I haven't been to Disney World in 3 years! And I live less than an hour away!! I know, it's shameful. But, as I said before, life got in the way. But, in addition to turning 30, we are also using this trip as a "farewell" to vacations for a little while. We are currently in the process of going through all of the fun process to get approved for a home loan to buy our first house! So, instead of spending money on trips, we will be saving all of our money (after this trip, of course) towards the down payment for our future home But we won't be without Disney all together. We just bought new Annual Passes, so even though there won't be any vacations for a while, there will still be trips to the parks on weekends and weekdays
Now, on to the details!!
Let's start with the WHO:
Who is going: ME! I'm Shellie and I'm 30 years old. I love ALL things Disney. Anyone who knows me will you tell you this. I'm pretty much a Disneyaholic. It's something I'm proud of. We are going on this trip to mainly celebrate me! So, I'm most definitely looking forward to being in my happy place!
DH- Mike- He is 30 also and secretly loves Disney a lot. He has been on a weight loss journey (down about 35lbs so far!) and is looking forward to touring the parks with less Pooh fluff holding him back
DS-Aiden- He is 8. He is the reason for the other part of this PTR title. SHHHH he doesn't know we are going to Disney for vacation! This is going to be a total surprise for him, which we have never really been able to do. He loves all things Disney but recently has been getting more into Star Wars, which makes us uber proud!
WHERE:
We will be staying at our favorite place, Port Orleans-Riverside. We LOVE POR!!! I'm hoping for a place in the mansions, so I asked for it in my requests.
WHEN:
March 2nd-March 7 (2 weeks away! AHH)
WHY:
I think I've pretty much summed that up for you all
I think this is a good place for me to end this post. I'll be back very soon to update dining and touring plans. As well as all the other planning that has been going on.
If you decide to board this crazy train, Welcome! We're glad you are here!!

Great to see you back . Good Luck keeping the secret from Aiden If I recall correctly that was tough last time out. Enjoy your Birthday Celebration Can't wait to read your TR to get ideas for our Dec/Jan trip and Mine
Wow! Thanks for all of the nice comments!! You all are great!
We are super excited for this trip. Aiden still has no idea! LOL yay!
Ok, so back to more of the trip.
I planned all of our dining reservations and hoped for the best. I knew there was a chance I wouldn't get some of what I wanted. But, hey, it's Disney World. Pretty much anywhere is going to have amazing food. We got the regular dining plan because, to us, prepaying our meals is one less hassle I have to deal with in planning, money-wise. In the past, we have chosen the Deluxe dining plan but we knew we didn't want to spend all of our time eating and rushing to make reservations. So regular ol' Disney Dining Plan was good for us this time around.
My original reservations looked like this (I am not including times for this part because it was just a general blue print of what and where I wanted to eat.)
Wednesday-2nd- Animal Kingdom
L- QS
D- Ohana
Thursday-3rd- Magic Kingdom
L-QS
D- Tony's Town Square
Friday-4th- Hollywood Studios
We actually had no dining requests for HS so it's just eating whatever looks good to us this day.
Saturday-5th- Magic Kingdom
B-Chef Mickey's
L-QS
D- Be Our Guest (to OFFICIALLY celebrate my birthday)
And guess what? I got it all!!! The Disney Gods were smiling down on me!! The only real difference is that Chef Mickeys is going to be Brunch instead of Breakfast, so we probably won't even eat lunch that day. I was SUPER excited. It's been really hard not to shout my joy from the rooftops when Aiden is around, but I've been managing (barely).
On top of all of that excitement, we recently adopted a second dog. We adopted our first dog, Houston, from a shelter. He is the BEST! He is a Pitt Bull mix and is the most loving dog ever. But he seemed to be a bit lonely. His original owners surrendered him because they had an older dog who just didn't like having a younger dog around. We figured he was used to having another dog around and thought that was why he was acting so sad. So, about 3 weeks ago, we adopted Marty. His story is a sad one. He was originally found as a stray in Tallahassee, in a dumpster looking for food. The original shelter picked him up, got him healthy and tried to adopt him out. But when his "time was up", another shelter took him to give him another chance. But then his "time came up" with that shelter, too. So, finally, the same shelter we adopted Houston from picked Marty up and we adopted him 3 days later. He was sad and scared at first. But now he and Houston play like they've known each other their whole lives. Marty is great dog and so sweet. But with having 2 dogs and 2 cats and a bearded dragon (lol) we had to find someone to watch our fur babies. So, Happy Paws it is! Our pups will be vacationing in a pet resort with a HUGE bone shaped pool and lots of friends to play with. Our cats will get the house to their selves, with someone checking in on them. And the bearded dragon will get tons of crickets to eat while we are gone.
Now, onto our surprise for Aiden. Since he has NO idea we are going, we are going to pack up the car the night before. We are going to get him up like he was going to school. We will bring the dogs with and tell him we are taking them to puppy day care to play. Then, we will tell him he has a doctor appointment to go to before school. Then off to Disney we drive! He'll figure it out before we get to the resort, but it will be fun tricking him while we travel. I am going to try to record it to show everyone.
Our magicbands arrive the other day and we are hiding those. It's less than 2 weeks now! AHHH!!!! I saw a few other people are going at the same time as us, so if you see us before we see you, stop by and say Hey There Hi There Ho There!
My next post will be FP reservations and touring plans! Yay!!!
Love story of your adoption of Marty. Reminds me a little of getting our Maggie. Still think Lucille decided we needed an RV as she tells me I sat up in bed a number of times on our trips without the GIRLS calling out for WOOKIE BEAR. So now they come with us. In fact when we start talking about WDW they get excited. They love to go ADVENTURING and no more CAMP for them when we go to CAMP.
Love your dining plans. At TONY's the bread at dinner is great, but the SCAMPI is amongst best I ever had
