As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Our November plans need to be pushed back to allow DH time to have and recover from surgery. So now we are looking at doing a split stay because room availability is slim picking right now for December. Our plans would now have us arrive for two nights at POR and then move to GF for two nights. How are spit stays handled at Disney? Will we need to get a cab and move ourselves? Will we need to check in at GF before we can access our new room? Will we have to use two sets of Magicbands? Our 2-day PH is part of the POR package and GF is a room only. Any tips to make the whole thing go smoothly?
Our tentative plans now would be:
Wed. Dec. 9th - arrive late at POR, settle in room/sleep
Thurs. Dec. 10th - MK morning/EP evening
Fri. Dec. 11th - Check out POR & in at GF, DTD morning/MVMCP evening (Possible ADR)
Sat. Dec. 12th - EP morning/HS evening
Sun. Dec. 13 - Check out, explore resorts before evening flight home (Possible ADR)
2. Will we need to check in at GF before we can access our new room?
3. Will we have to use two sets of Magicbands?
4. Our 2-day PH is part of the POR package and GF is a room only.
1. You can do it that way, but what I would do is check out of POR, take the boat over to DTD (which is now officially being called Disney Springs, by the way), spend some time over there, then take the bus over to GF and check in over there. When you check out, just tell POR that you're moving to GF and they'll take care of getting your luggage over there. Just keep in mind though that it will be a few hours (maybe even late afternoon) before your luggage will be at GF. If you need or want it right away, take a cab and take your luggage with you.
2. I would assume so.
3. You'll get two sets, but you don't have to use both. They're both just links to your MDE account, which has both reservations on it. So you can each get two colors and use them interchangeably, or just use one set or the other.
4. Not a problem. Once you use the tickets for the first time, you have 14 days to use them up.
I've read on the boards that now you can tell Disney you don't want another set of MB's on a split stay.
Personally, I'd get them and choose different colors. We both had fun last year using our 2013 MB's alternately with our new set as the mood and our newly acquired addiction to Bandits demanded. It proved to be so much fun that we're doing that again, having bought some new Bandits when Disney Store online had a good sale this summer.
Whether or not you get as addicted to Bandits and other MB accessories as we have, you'll have a couple sets you can use again next year if you return then. More color mix and match fun!

1. You could get a cab, but they will move your luggage for you. Its super easy. You can get special transfer luggage tags from POR. Put the tags on the bags and leave them in your room. You can head out to do whatever you want that day-I would say take the boat or bus to DTD/Disney Springs. Then take a bus to GF. Check in at GF and your luggage should be delivered.
2. You should be able to do online check in.
3. You can get 2 sets. But there is now an option to "decline magicbands". you can just get the one set for the first part of the stay and decline the second set. The magicband will work for both parts as long as its activated.
4. You have 14 days to use the tickets so that shouldn't be an issue.
I did a split stay in Jan with the first few night at POR. I contacted bell services in the am, they came and tagged and picked up the bags. He told me that they transfer luggage at 1 pm. I'm sure this isn't a dedicated time but just to give you an idea. We headed out to MK for the morning then over to our 2nd resort late afternoon. Bags were waiting. Couldn't have been easier. Have a great trip!

Oh, thank you! Sharing your details makes me feel less stressed. That sounds like a very smooth transition.

for reasons that even i do not understand, i always do split stays. until my last trip, during which i made a large mistake, they all went very well. here's what a split stay looks like, in three simple steps:
1. on check out day, wake up and call bell services and have them come for your stuff. have it moved to your next resort.
2. go on with your day as you normally would. at the end of the day, get on the bus/ferry/monorail which will take you to your new resort. this will feel no different than if you were returning to your old resort.
3. check in to your new room. have bell services bring you your stuff. smile.
the thing i did wrong the last time: i took NOTHING with me in the morning. legitimately nothing. i had my magic band and my phone and that's it. and because of weather and exhaustion, i needed an early-evening break. except that our bags were not yet delivered to our new resort, so i had NOTHING. i could not swim. i could not even comb my hair. i could not charge my phone. thus, my advice is: on the day you check out, at least take a purse into the park with the things you will absolutely need before, say, 8pm. i highly recommend a comb and a phone charger. ;-)
We just did a split stay between BLT and BWV. When we checked out of BLT, Bell Services told us the luggage transfer would happen between 1:00 and 3:00 pm. I think we called around 2:45ish (during a planned break) and the luggage was there,
The only glitch we ran into was that I had to stop by the front desk at Boardwalk to have our Magic Bands programmed for the new room. I had done online check-in, but for some reason, the room assignment system didn't recognize that we had checked out of BLT that morning. This didn't happen last year when we did a split between POFQ and BLT, so I don't think this happens to everyone.

That's RXACTLY what happened to me in Jan. Thought it was just me because I never officially "checked out" of POR but my second resort was BWI. While out luggage was there by early afternoon, it took (what I consider) a long time to set up the MB's. Especially since it was a concierge room I guess I expected faster service.
WE get the second set of magic bands, I use my second band in the car to access the gates at the resort entrance, that way I don't have to take mine off my wrist to reach the sensor. 36 " arms and I can't reach. Just a thought for those of you who have a car at Disney.
I always get up in the morning and catch a cab with my luggage to next resort if doing a split stay. I want my luggage there at next resort when I need it. It's worth a few extra $ to me for convenience. I've heard the stories of late luggage delivery.

that's actually REALLY good advice. it avoids any issue. and will likely cost less than $20. taxis in WDW are always a good idea.
It is also a good idea to go to the front desk and physically check out of the first resort. If you don't it can cause issues ceding in to the second resort especially if you check in early

Thank you for this tip. I would not have thought about that causing a potential problem.
