As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So, this story requires a bit of back story. My mom had to have her leg amputated several years before we lost her in 2012 and she had an artifial leg custom made for her. And she basically hated it. Now not everyone may find this funny, but if you knew my mom you would agree with us and get a giggle!!
My DNiece and her BFF are having a yard sale today with the huge pile of stuff that my Dsis has been collecting for them in her shop. They got up early at 7AM this morning and started setting up, and DNiece went on to work at 10AM, leaving BFF with instructions that everything on the two pallets was to go. DSis got a call from DNiece and she said that BFF had sold Mom's leg for $10 bucks.
DSis has been planning for the last two years to get it to an orthopedist that collects those until they have a truckload to ship overseas, but never got around to it. She had forgotten totally about it until moving and had leaned the leg up against the yardsale pile and promptly forgot it.
We think it's absolutely hilarious that someone bought it, and we're sure Mom would have thought it was pretty funny, too. She never did like wearing that thing!
And what on earth is someone going to do with an artificial leg custom made for someone else? Some sort of modern art project? A science fair robotics project? A Rube Goldberg contraption? A lamp? A planter? We are wishing BFF had asked why he wanted it, lol. Now we'll always wonder.
I've gotten some cool stuff when going to garage/yard sales and my DSis is the Queen of Garage Sales!! If she wanted/needed something, she could ALWAYS find it at a garage sale. But an artifical leg was never something either of us went looking for!!

I too think that's funny someone bought it. They could do anything I suppose - maybe even make a lamp like from the Christmas Story. Last year at Walgreens, they had small leg lamps for sale and Lenny said people were even buying them.
That would completely freak me out!!!!
I have said that my mom is haunting me (in a good way) but that would be too weird!

Artificial legs are expensive. Maybe it was someone with a family member who can't afford a leg, but needs one. You might be able to pad it to adjust it to someone.
Me, I'd set it in my living room and just wait for someone to ask about it.
My grandma had an artificial leg and also hated it. When she passed away we wondered what to do with the leg when picking her things up from the nursing home. Dad propped it up in the corner and left.

You are not kidding about how expensive they are!! And hers was a very low tech version compared to some that are being built today.
My sister kept meaning to take it over to the doctor who built it for Mom. They collect all these kind of items and they are shipped overseas to groups who adjust them to fit other people who couldn't otherwise get one at all. I would guess that there are groups here in the States that do the same thing, I'm just not sure who they are.
I just keep trying to think of things that could be done with an artifical leg. The Christmas Story lamp is the only thing I've really come up with .... just the nursing home version.
