As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Our favorite company, Disney (of course), is now a sponsor of the MLS' newest team, Orlando City! I highly recommend trying to make a game if you are in Orlando at the right time. DH & I are huge fans. We were there for the home opener and it was a fantastic atmosphere! We'll be going back for 2 more games in May. The perks of only living a 4 hr drive away! Any other OCSC fans here?

We are DC United season ticket holders, but since we are also DVC members, and Disney stockholders we've said we also now sponsor the Orlando team! We're looking forward to seeing Orlando play here at RFK when they meet up with DC United.

We play DC 3 times by mid June - how crazy is that?? Glad to hear from another MLS fan!
We went to Orlando City's preseason tournament in Charleston, SC and got to meet many players, including Kaka and Brek Shea. Such kind, humble men! Made me love Brek on the US team even more. (We got to meet Beasley and Mix too since Houston & NYCFC were also there.) It was pretty awesome!

Oh, my son and DH would've loved to have met Mix!
We had a great preseason event here where we got to hangout with the team (I got my picture taken with Coach Ben Olsen!). Bad thing was none of the team who are part of the USMNT were there as they had a game. I'd wanted to meet Bill Hamid.

Aw, that's too bad that that USMNT players weren't there. I've met Eddie Johnson (at last year's preseason tournament in Charleston), and got pics of Bill Hamid, but didn't meet him.
We actually had a pretty fun interaction with Mix. He's a really nice guy. He is one of my DH's two fave players, so DH has a bomb pop jersey with MIX on it. It has 42 as the number, because he got it before the roster for Brazil with everyone's # came out so we would have it in time for our trip to Brazil. 42 was Mix's # on his team in Norway. Anyway, the first day of the Charleston tournament was crazy crowded, because that is the day when most of the away fans make the road trip to come see their teams. So, DH decided he would wait and bring his jersey on the second day of the tournament, since it was the only weekday (a Wed) and it is always way less crowded than the two Saturdays. Well, turns out it was pouring down rain and FREEZING (seriously it was like 35 degrees) on that Wed. The only reason I agreed to drive the two hours up to Charleston to try to get to Mix was because it also happened to be DH's birthday. (Couldn't really say no to that, huh? ) So we got there and waited in the freezing cold under the bleachers where the players come off the field after the game. There were not many people waiting, but Mix was one of the only NYCFC players that stopped to sign autographs. When he got to us, DH asked if he would sign his jersey. Mix saw that it was #42 and he got so excited and said "That's my number!!" and then asked us to help him hold the jersey tight so he could "make his signature look really nice on this one." HE then asked for a pic with my DH and the jersey! I got a picture with him too, but only after he razzed me a little for having an Orlando scarf on. I told him it was ok, I was an American Outlaws chapter leader, so he said ok he would be nice to me. Really really cool guy. It made my DH's day for sure. It was a pretty special tournament with DH being able to meet Mix and me being able to meet Brek (who I have loved for a long time...and was SO EXCITED when I saw he was going to Orlando).

question why are all these soccer teams playing at baseball stadiums this year I know the Yankees are part owners of the nycfc but how long does it take to get a stadium or is it based on the amount of people that go the first few years if they get a stadium. we now have two teams up here

It takes FOREVER to get a stadium. DC United was in the first group of MLS teams established, in 1996, and since the start have played at RFK Stadium (a football venue). They threatened to leave DC if the couldn't get their own stadium, and FINALLY last year the city council approved plans. Now, sometime in the 2017 season, we'll finally have a soccer stadium. Can't wait!

NYCFC are the only team who play in a baseball stadium and I frankly think it's ridiculous. The field looks awful, it has seams all over it and I really hope it doesn't cause the amount of injuries I am afraid it will. If a team takes the right channels, it is actually not that hard for them to get a soccer-specific stadium. Orlando City is playing in the Citrus Bowl this season (a football stadium that was renovated last year), but will have their own soccer-specific stadium finished for next season. The city voted on everything regarding the stadium BEFORE they were given an MLS team. Only a few (I believe 5?) teams in MLS do not have soccer stadiums and play in either football (or baseball) stadiums. I have pretty strong feelings on the matter, but NYCFC basically only has a team because they have more money than anyone else. There are so many other cities that deserved a team before giving NYC a second one. As we Orlando City fans like to say, "Teams should be built, not bought."

I agree its stupid the Yankees are not happy with it they are afraid of getting hurt since the season overlaps I don't think this is going to work in ny . they have only sold 40 thousand seats for the entire season and it seats 27 thousand for soccer. I think soccer will do well in Orlando since they get a lot of people from the uk

the red bulls are in new jersey. I think the big issue for soccer up here is its not on tv and its played during baseball season the reason it draws in other city's is they don't have an mlb team so it gives people something to watch in the summer

They say they have 14000+ season tix holders for NYCFC, which would be way more than 40,000 seats sold on the season. Orlando is going to do well because they already have a huge supporter base. Their team had been USL Pro (a division below MLS) for years and broke attendance records all over the place for that league. We had 62,000 people (complete sell out plus 2,000 standing room only tickets) for the home opener last weekend. They are not normally opening the entire stadium for soccer games, but they already had to open more seats for the next game than the 20,000 they had originally planned on. Orlando does have a lot of British people, and actually has one of the largest Brazilian populations outside of Brazil, but their are still a very high amount of Americans who support the team as well. I don't see why the Yankees are complaining, since it was there choice to share the stadium, but I agree that it is a bad idea. The soccer season is longer than baseball's season, so they will be dealing with this the entire season.

I know that the Red Bulls technically play in NJ, but they are called the NY Red Bulls and there is no reason for there to be two teams in such close proximity. I'm pretty sure the games are all shown at least locally, and many are shown nationally on ESPN channels or Unimas channels (we have MLS Direct Kick, so we get all the games even if they are only on local channels). There are plenty of cities that have successful MLS teams and baseball teams. Dallas, Seattle, DC, Boston, Toronto, just to name a few. It's really a totally different demographic. Not that they don't exist, but I don't know many fans who are really into soccer and baseball.

most of the bitching from the players is about the grass and I think it will end up being a big issue since it takes time for the grass to take hold they were saying it will be like playing in parking lot if the grass does not take I see a lot of knee issues for both sports

I hope they find a way to make it work up here I would love to check out a real soccer game. the one thing that I am also not liking is the way the field is set up it starts at first base and goes to third base its a very strange setup for a soccer game it should be set up like football so that the field is setup long ways homeplate to the outfield the sight lines are not good as half the seats are behind the net
