As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We are going to The World for 12 nights and I was wondering if we should stick to just one resort or do two different ones? I have never done a split but ive read alot about people doing them. What combination would you pick. Double Deluxe? One Deluxe and One Moderate? Or just Values? I want this trip to be perfect. What should I Do?
If I do a week or more, we do a split stay.
We've done:
moderate/deluxe
deluxe/deluxe
value/deluxe/deluxe
offsite/deluxe
I think it's like getting two vacations in one by splitting up the time. You should do what you can afford and what appeals to you. I will suggest that you leave the higher priced one as your second resort, so you don't feel disappointed when you switch.

We did a Boardwalk / Animal Kingdom Villas split. We stayed at the Boardwalk to be close to the parks and to be busy at the parks. Then we stayed at AKV to relax a bit more at the end of our trip.

We've done lots of split stays over the years. We're Disney Vacation Club members, so it tends to be amongst those resorts - on our next trip, we'll be staying at the Treehouse Villas at Saratoga Springs, Bay Lake Tower, Animal Kingdom Lodge and Beach Club Villas.
For 12 nights, I'd probably go for two resorts - it allows you plenty of time to spend at each. If you can't do or don't want to do two deluxe resorts, I'd start with a moderate or a value, then finish off with a deluxe one..
I've done a few split stays, both onsite/ onsite and onsite/offsite. I find they are a waste of time. Even if Disney moves your luggage, you still have to pack up an extra time and check-in an extra time. I prefer to stay at one resort and just visit other resorts for meals or just to walk around and tour.
If you do a split-stay, I agree with PPs that you should end with the nicer place.

Same here. I'm simply too lazy when on vacation to want to pack in the midst of our stay, haul selves to another resort, check in and get settled in another room.
That's why we like PassPorter's overviews of the different resorts. We can determine whether or not those we're considering are as magical as everyone's resort ought to be, depending upon what you find most appealing.
For us, it's fancy-schmancy, on the monorail if at all possible and close to the MK. So, the Deluxes in that area are perfect since we don't like to economize any more than absolutely necessary to get to WDW but still have our creature comforts.

I've been tempted to do a split stay in the past, but my DH has never been interested. And now, well, to pack up 6 people and schlep to another resort doesn't appeal to me anymore. Maybe I'm just getting old....
Anyway, if you do decide to split, I would have to agree with the others who say save the best for last. Whatever you decide, I know your vacation WILL be perfect--you're going to be at Disney!!!
I have never done a split stay because it was just not worth it for the length of my trips. But, this up coming trip is a full 2 weeks and I am first staying at POFQ for the first 6 nights then moving to BCV for the rest of the trip. I am splitting the stay mostly for cost reasons. Can't afford 2 weeks at BCV. But I am travelling alone so it should not be too bad.
We've done split stays several times, and enjoyed them thoroughly. It's a great way to get two vacations in one.
Most have been deluxe/deluxe - so we didn't have to worry about putting the better hotel second. We based our choices on our touring plans - usually a MK area resort for the MK/Epcot times, and Animal Kingdom Lodge for the rest.
The only other split stay has been Value/Dolphin, in a Starwood Preferred Tower room. That was for a solo trip for me and my youngest during Mousefest one year - we stayed at Pop Century lakeside in the 70s for the bulk of the trip - moving to the Dolphin for the last night as there was no availability at Pop. She loved the pools at both places - for different reasons. She loved the spray fountains and the other little girls to play with at Pop Century - and she loved the grotto pool and slides at the Dolphin.
We´ve done split stays for longer vacations. I think it worth if the resorts you choose are diferent enought that will add a "two vacations in one" feel. We did several combos, usually deluxe/deluxe and also offsite/onsite mix.

i pretty much only do split stays. not for any reason other than: i use my mom's DVC (best mom ever) and typically plan last minute, so it is a necessity. i'm doing a triple split stay this coming trip. we booked 3 nights at the boardwalk and then 2 at AKL kidani, through DVC. then we decided we wanted to arrive on friday night instead of sunday afternoon, so i booked two extra nights at POR. the man taking my reservation chuckled when he saw how many stays i was doing. but still, i maintain that split stays are entirely painless and awesome. it isn't just a 'i have to do this' thing--i LIKE to do it. here's why:
-you get to stay at multiple disney resorts. i want to stay at all of them, so checking off more than one per trip is a bonus.
-you get to try different resort dining options.
-you get to be near different parks.
-you get to try different transportation options (my last split stay included BLT, so i got to use the monorail!)
it is also super easy. all you have to do is drop your bag off on the way to the bus/boat/monorail in the morning, and it shows up at your next resort. it isn't even any additional transportation. you go to the park from one resort and return from the park to another. it takes maybe five extra minutes per move.
however, it is important to note that i travel for work and often/usually move hotels every night. so i know how to pack. which means: i don't UN pack. ever. i have packing cubes and use my small roller bag as a chest of drawers. i open it up--it is a clamshell design--and put it on one of those luggage holder things. i live out of it--taking out what i need, rolling up the dirty clothing and putting it in the other side--and then zip it up and leave. maybe 45 seconds to 'pack'. it will likely take a normal person more time--but not much more.
