For those that have stayed at both POR and CBR - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

This is a question for those that have stayed at both resorts. Last time (our first time) we stayed at POR and LOvED it, but seeing as they did not offer free dining this year, I am thinking they won't next year either. So I would like to hear people's opinions on both resorts. At POR we loved the boat ride to DTD, the food court and the grounds. Will we like CBR as much?
I would live any input that you have ... Thanks

I've stayed at both. Unlike you, I did not have such a great time at POR. I thought the distance from my preferred room to the lobby/food court was very long and I have a mild fear of going over bridges, so every trip to my room was stressful. The CM's were not all that friendly and the bus service wasn't that great. But I loved CBR. I loved the landscaping, the size of the room, the hammocks on the beach, and the distance from Epcot. I stayed in Martinique which is very close to the food court and beach. I'd go back there in a heartbeat.
Everyone has their personal favorites and mine is POR. That being said, I have stayed, and will stay, at other resorts in order to be at WDW. Next week I check into Coronado Springs Resort for the first time ever. It all boils down to you and your family deciding that you are going to have a great time no matter where you are. Just look at it as experiencing something new at Disney.

At both resorts, location matters. Both have internal bus systems, but POR has the boat to DTD and French Quarter. Both have themed pools--though at POR you get to use the themed pools at both POR and POFQ. At POR the check-in area is the same building as the food court and shop, but not at CBR. There are elevators at POR, but not CBR.
It is all about preference. Once you pick, you are sure to enjoy!
Have a magical trip!

I don't mind distance to and from the room. But the landscaping at CBR does sound warm and welcoming.

Maybe experiencing something new would be good!

I really will miss the boat, but maybe a change will be exciting.

We've stayed at CBR and POFQ. CBR was a beautiful resort!! We had the pirates room, which is the furthest from Everything. The internal bus service was not appealing to us. It took forever for the bus to come, then it has to make full circle to get to the food court area. So we either walked or took the car. It was a pretty walk though, just a long one. Now POFQ is our absolute favorite resort and we usually go there. We've walked, dined and shopped at POR, but it's too much like home for us to stay there. If the bus service had been better at CBR we certainly would have tried it again, but we wouldn't stay in the Pirate room (in Trinidad). But that room was really cute when DS was smaller. Either way, how can you go wrong when you're getting to visit the most Magical place on earth!

Also stayed at both. We love CBR and didn't love POR. It came down to theming for us. I stay in Jamaica. I made it a habit of crossing the bridge to Old Port Royal for breakfast, it's a lovely walk, then back across to my room to collect my things for the day and the bus stop was right behind my building. The Caribbean theming makes me feel like I'm on vacation even MORE. It takes me away to a tropical place where POR felt like I was not far enough from home. But I'm not into the whole New Orleans southern feel and charm. I'm a Caribbean girl who loves to cruise to the Caribbean too so that's prob why. If you do CBR, try to get something in Jamaica. The location is great.

You know, I am thinking I might like the whole Carribean feeling! Thanks for the tip on Jamaica ... I will go see if I can find some maps
I have stayed at both and just got back from POFQ on Saturday. We really liked Port Orleans Riverside, but last September, the only place we could get into was CB. We were in the second building away from the food area so, we were really close.
We won't go back to CB unless it is the ONLY option left to us at the time. Port Orleans FQ was wonderful. Everything is close and the boat ride is great. We didn't have to wait too long for ANY buses. The only one that was always full was the DTD one because it went to Riverside first. We started taking the boats and - problem solved.
We were close at Riverside too, so our walking wasn't bad their either. The only complaint I have about FQ is the selection of the food court and store are small. I've booked there again for next September, so it obviously didn't bother me that much. It was so serene. I can't even describe it.
When we stayed at the AoA in the Mermaid section, I thought we were walking miles to get to it. After a full day at a park, it sure did seem like it was miles.
If I have to stay at a value, I will always choose POP.
I've never stayed at a deluxe, but some day, maybe I will get the opportunity to do so.
All that to say that we would pick Port Orleans over Caribbean Beach any day of the week.
You will have a wonderful trip, no matter where you stay, after all, it IS Disney.
Dh and I are gonna give CBR a try, even though we loved the PO area. He especially wants a new experience each trip and I agree that it adds to the magic. Working on 4th trip in last 3 years and new resort each time. 2 new ones for this upcoming trip!
I have stayed at both! POR in August of 2013 and CBR in May 2014. Both resorts are different with different feels and different atmospheres too.
In POR I was in the Alligator Bayou and did not have to walk far to the food court. It was very laid back feeling and I thoroughly enjoyed my vacation, even with humid conditions!
Staying at the Caribbean Beach was a whole different experience. I had stayed here back in 2003 and 2005 with my boys and even then I loved it. But this most recent trip I fell in love again! I also stayed in the Jamaica section and yes it was close to the bridge to get to the food court and my room had a bus stop behind the building too. (Little secret: I walked to the food court every morning to take the bus at Port Royal, because it was the last stop before going to any parks. BUT coming back I got off the Jamaica Bus Stop because it was the 1st stop!)
Plus the landscape is so beautiful I didn't mind walking.... bamboo and tropical flowers..who wouldn't want to see that everyday?!
I think you might fall-in-love with CBR..... Plus the food court is spread out better.... Have a Fabulous Magical Disney vacation at the Caribbean Beach!

That's encouraging, Kate! Queens are done in Jamaica section, so that's what I'm aiming for!
On another note, WL hols no appeal for me. No interest in paying deluxe prices for it. Ft wilderness either. I wanted out of there when we went to the campfire!
We've stayed at both por 2006, cbr 2009. Each has a special place in our heEts. One our honeymoon, the next - well, let's just say our son arrived 9 months later
For both resorts we had a car, so can't really comment about the transport. We loved por as we were in the bar most evenings enjoying te piano player, and the boat to dd. cbr had a lovely food court and great pool.
Choice is yours, but if I was forced to make a decision it would be por.
