As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I have used a lovely Canvas tote bag for every Disney trip. It slides easily on my shoulder and every thing I need packs in it and then some.
It is usually my "purse item" and I have had another bag from time to time. This next trip I am taking a travel Zuca Flyer Travel Black/Black : ZÜCA Store
as my other item and actually debating if I need to take the Disney Bag. I think everything I normally throw in will fit in the rolling bag, as it is completely in the carry on size. But I'm concerned about after the trip. My Disney bag has been the go to for here is this breakable item that needs to get home safe.
Hmmmmm... Thoughts ? Ideas?
I might just put the Disney Bag in the checked luggage like a security blanket

Dreams, Wishes, Hopes... these are the parts of childhood we should never lose.
I use a backpack as my carryon. I put the bag I'll carry in the parks inside it so I can drop the big bag with bell services and have the small one to take in the parks the first day. But I understand about being concerned about the trip home. I've packed a smaller tote in my suitcases on occasion in case we needed more space on the way home. But I always travel with Southwest. They allow two checked bags for free, so I know it won't cost me more.
My personal bag is usually a diaper bag due to their durability & built in organization features. My carry on bag varies depending on the trip but typically is either a carry on sized suitcase or a backpack that's large enough to hold my 17" laptop.
I've been using my Vera Bradley large duffel bag as my carry on and a Vera Bradley Large Tote as my personal item. I can fit everything in my duffel bag, so no checked luggage for me!
I use an LL Bean messenger bag that has an inside pocket for my lap-top, plus a separate bottom pocket that holds my jacket and an extra pair of shoes. I've had it for over 10 years and it looks fairly new.
PassPorter's Free-Book to Walt Disney World Its hard to believe anything is free at Walt Disney World; but there are actually a number of things you can get or do for little to no cost. This e-book documents over 200 free or cheap tips to do before you go and after you arrive. You could save a considerable amount of money following these tips. Perhaps more importantly; you can discover overlooked attractions and little-known details most people whiz by on their way to spend money. Click here to see free sample pages from the e-book! Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. A club pass includes access to all our other e-books; e-worksheets; super-size photos; and more! This e-book is also available for separate purchase in the PassPorter Online Store for just $5.95.
My carry-ons have evolved considerably over the years.
I currently have three carry-ons:
The official "carry-on" is a small backpack. For our next Disney trip it will be a Pacsafe Venturesafe™ 15L GII day pack ( Pacsafe - Venturesafe 15L GII day pack ). It will also serve as the bag I take into the parks most days. On airplanes, it goes in the overhead bin, although it will fit under the seat in front of me.
If I need a larger backpack (e.g. a trip where I need to bring my laptop), I have an ObusForme backpack that is a little bit bigger than the Pacsafe that I would use instead.
For my "personal item", the outer bag is a RuMe Bags cFold Expandable Carry All ( RuMe Bags cFold Expandable Carry All - eBags.com ), opened up. We carry an extra one, unopened, in case it is needed during the trip -- e.g. to carry water and ginger ale onto the Disney fantasy :-) The cFold slides over the handles of a rolling luggage, is water resistant, and can hold upto 50 pounds (not that I would want to be carrying that much around...). I note that the cFold open dimensions are a bit smaller when I measure them than they are advertised as. Also, as a soft-side it is mushable. And it fits just fine under the seat in front, which is its home during the flight.
Inside the cFold depends on the trip. Typically will be my purse, some bottled water (bought after airport security), food for the flight, and other things I may or do need during the flight itself. Smartphone and tablet also ride in here during the flight if I plan on using them, e.g. to watch a movie. For going through airport security I put my 3-1-1 bag in here, but it is often relocated back into the backpack after security is over. A fleece or other extra layer may go into the tote as well.
For a work trip, the first thing inside the tote is actually another tote -- an eBags Kalya Town Square ( eBags Kalya Town Square Bag - eBags.com ) which is used as a "business case" at my destination. Inside the cFold it gives some rigidity and padding. Inside THAT would be the same things as above.
The third carry-on is filled exclusively with medication and medical supplies and medical equipment. It therefore does not count towards my carry-on limit. I have a tag on it that says it only contains medical supplies, but usually have to verbally state to airline/security personnel that that is what the bag is. Because I have medical liquids > 100 mL and a medical device that has to go into a tray at airport security screening, the items are packed ready to be removed for security screening, including in a bags to protect them from the nastiness of those gray bins (I swear I should buy stock in Ziploc/Hefty :-) ). This carry-on is a small rolling bag that woudl fit easily under a seat; however, for the flight it rides in the overhead bin.
My sister has similar, though she recently acquired an eBags EXO 2.0 Hardside Spinner Mobile Office ( eBags EXO 2.0 Hardside Spinner Mobile Office - eBags.com ) and is thinking of using that for her primary carryon, putting her Pacsafe backpack inside it (flat).
I use my Vera Bradley Weekender as my carry on. Since I fly Southwest, I can check a bag free, so that's more than enough for me. I don't carry on very much, just my iPad, purse (which I put in the weekender), meds and a change of clothes. I can easily put it under the seat in front of me.
Mine is the Vera Bradley Large Tote and I use the VB Weekender for DD(7)
stuff on the plane. SW is great about the two carryon bags. I also keep my
VB mini hipster in my tote so I can use that right away and keep the other
bags with bell services.
I use my Vera Bradley Weekender. I can get so much inside of it. Both my boys and DH carry a backpack as their carry-on. Between their carry-ons and mine, we usually only have to check one bag.
I use a backpack. Plenty of room in it for all of my stuff plus having hands free(especially if you are travelling with little ones) is a must. My sister and I went to Europe for almost 2 weeks and she is an over packer and had a huge rolling carryon plus a smaller purse type bag. If I needed any kind of validation that a backpack is the way to go, I got it travelling with her. LOL She struggled so much with the bags from the airport escalators to the crowded airports and in the hotel room trying to find room for a huge checked suitcase plus her suitcase carryon. She had so much unnecessary stuff in there she could not easily find anything she needed when she needed it. It was a constant time consuming search through her bags for anything. I am totally convinced that a backpack is the way to go for travel.
I use a backpack. I am one of those weirdos who likes to keep my bag under the seat in front of me the whole time for easy access. My backpack lets me do that and still have a little bit of room to stick my feet under there too. I also like that it's so easy to carry.
