My Magic Bands traveled 1200 miles in 2 days, it's now going to take 4 days to go 120 miles? - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

My Magic Bands traveled 1200 miles in 2 days, it's now going to take 4 days to go 120 miles?
Just because I had nothing better to do, I just looked up the tracking number Disney gave me for my Magic Bands. According to the USPS, my bands are in Springfield MA - about 120 miles/2 hours away. My estimated delivery date? Friday the 18th. They left Memphis Tennessee (why did the come from there?) on the 10th at approx. 4:30 pm and arrived in Springfield yesterday on the 12th at approximately 5:30 pm - so roughly a total of 49 hours for 1200 miles. Why is it going to take another 132 hours to get from Springfield to my mail box?? The box supposedly departed Springfield at 4:30 this morning and I don't get my mail until almost 5 at night - that's how I got 132 hours. And some people wonder why others don't like the USPS. If I'm lucky I might actually get my package before we leave - especially considering somewhere I read my bands were shipped parcel post and I really think the local post office holds onto those and then forgets about them until I show up telling them I was expecting a package - then I usually get it the next day (long story short, Lenny's sister use to send us packages Parcel Post and I never got them until the day after I showed up at the post office wanting to know where it was - and usually Patricia would send me an email or call us 2 weeks or so AFTER she sent the package wanting to know what Abby thought of or whatever it was she sent. She has since stopped using Parcel Post and whatever she sends, Abby now gets in 2 or 3 days).

I know it' an estimated delivery, but what I don't get is why it's such a long estimate. Especially taking into account how far it's travelled and how close it is already.
I think they estimate it before it goes anywhere to begin with and never bother to revise the estimate as the item travels. And they over-estimate so that they get it delivered on time or early....makes them look good when they can say - Oh, we deliver early 75% of the time.
Hope you get them soon, that will make your trip so much more real!! Have a wonderful time!

Sadly, sometimes the est. time is a lot more accurate than I'd like where we live.
On stuff that we order which is shipped UPS and then transferred to the post office (never have figured out how all that additional handling is cheaper than sending it UPS to our door!), it arrives at a UPS distribution center about 35 miles from us. Takes a day to get from that center to our PO. Then, it often takes a full day for them to sort it to our mail carrier who likely won't bring it to us until the next day.
Three days after it arrives in the city area is when we'll likely get it. Crazy!

I am surprised they were shipped Parcel Post since ours were sent Priority Mail. I never tracked the package, so I didn't notice where it was shipped from or what the return address was on the box. And I do not understand how ours came so quickly and yours are so delayed. I sincerely hope you have a good experience using them. We've had no complaints using ours on our previous 2 trips, but I am apprehensive about how they will work for our large group of 14.
Darlene, my bands came today and I got my notice of shipment the day after you. I noticed the bands come from TN and I was given a estimated date of the 19th. I live in NC and that sounded ridiculous. They must buffer the date for unexpected delays. I hope you see your bands within the next couple of days.
FedEx is based in Memphis, where Darlene's came from, but I also believe that I recall that a Disney warehouse is somewhere in Memphis as well. It's not something I hear about often, but think I read about it in the paper when some new warehouses were being occupied.

It's all about where the transportation hubs are. Lots of warehouses are near Memphis, which has cheap non-union labor and an airport fitted to take big cargo planes. The delivery dates are estimates; items that I order online and track usually come on or before the designated day. Part of it will depend upon who the carriers are. If they are transferring things to the PO for final delivery, then it might take an extra day on your route if your carrier only delivers packages on certain days.
They did not use parcel post for our bands; I can't remember if they came UPS or Priority Mail, but it definitely wasn't parcel post. Our MBs arrived much quicker than I thought they would, so hopefully yours will be there soon.
Regarding the bands shipping from TN, it's common for items to be shipped from a distribution center that is nowhere near the actually company initiating the shipment. I work for a company headquartered in Columbus OH, and we ship from a 3rd party warehouse is Statesville NC.
Does anyone know if the magic bands would ship in two different boxes? I got a tracking number also shipping from TN but when I checked on my magic bands in mydisneyexperience it showed three out of our 4 in my account (?)
We figured it out, My husbands showed up on his account..
We had 2 different reservation numbers with 7 guests listed on each. Our MBs arrived in 2 packages, one to my home and one to my daughter's home. Inside the packages were 2 MB boxes, 5 in one and 2 in the other one. Not sure if this answers your question.
