Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Any dream will do...

With the start of ticket sales for Lion King, the musical here in Pittsburgh I thought of a question...
What is your favorite play ( on or off Broadway)? & what is your favorite song(s) from Musical plays..
For me my all time favorite play is "Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat".. I adore that play & how fun & lively it is.. No, not because Donny Osmond starred in it I HAVE seen other performers ( but I must admit Donny IS "Joseph"!!)
Now, here is the funny part.. my favorite song from that play is NOT sung by Donny in the play.. It is "Those Canaan Days" I just love the funniness of the song.
With that said.. my all-time favorite musical song is not from "Joseph".. My all-time favorite song is another Sir Andrew production.."Memory" from Cats..
Other favorites are:
One hand, one heart from West Side Story
Don't rain on my parade & Isn't it better from Funny Lady
Sunrise Sunset from Fiddler on the roof..
Gosh, I could probably go on & on.. ( can you tell I love music!~ too bad I'm tone deaf & can't sing or play any instrument)

Re: Any dream will do...

I have to say 2, since I can't choose between them

Jesus Christ Superstar and Rent

As for my favorite songs from musicals? Gosh, that's tough...
Glory and Seasons of Love from Rent
And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going from Dreamgirls - gotta be Jennifer Holliday here
All I Ask of You from Phantom of the Opera

I could go on and on too, but I'll stop there

Re: Any dream will do...

I was in our local production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat as were my children and my father and I have seen it live so many times that I have to say it is my favorite. My personal favorite song from that movie is a tie between Close every door and Canaan days since my dad was the lead brother to sing that song and our rendition of the song was so funny.I cry every time I hear Close every door and my best friend was Joseph so it made it even better. Good question!! I also love Donny Osmonds performance of Joseph and he kind of spoiled me since the last live performance I saw Joseph was a blond and it threw me all night.Weird huh??

Re: Any dream will do...

Ann, that is a GREAT one! My youngest son who is just 6 has "Coat of Many Colors" stuck in his mind permanently I think - he is constantly singing it all the time here! LOL! And now I've totally got "Any Dream Will Do" stuck in my head - I may have to go pull the soundtrack or find Josh to sing to me!

But my favorite - gosh that is so hard to narrow down! I would probably say it's The Lion King followed very closely by Miss Saigon. Both on the opposite end of the spectrum but mesmerizing - the entrance of the animals to Pride Rock in puppetry in Lion King is simply incredible and I was blow away when the helicopter landed on stage in Miss Saigon !

Signed,
The Phantom of the Opera

Re: Any dream will do...

Ooooh Ann, what a great question! I, too, love Joseph. I've never seen it but I think I have the soundtrack memorized! As for favorites, that's a lot harder...

I absolutely love Camelot, but I can't stand Ms. Redgrave in Guinevere's role. Julie Andrews is the only acceptable Guinevere IMHO. I suppose it is my fave. I almost always use "The Simple Joys of Maidenhood" as my audition piece. It is hysterical and just obscure enough that not everyone else sings it.

I also love Westside Story and the King and I. Porgy and Bess is another favorite. Technically it's an Operetta, but I'm includint it anyway. Phantom is phenomenal, and I sing "All I Ask of You" at more weddings than any other song. Sarah Brightman and I have a similar range, so most of Mr. Lloyd Weber's roles written for her suit me well. Lucky me!

I haven't been to many musicals, I know shame on me , I live in N.Y! However, "On My Own" sung by Eponine in "Les Miserable" always gives me goosebumps.

<font size="2" face="Comic Sans MS, Arial">LOL.. I've seen Donny perform Joseph so many times it was really hard to see David Birmingham ( a blonde) take over the role. A few years ago I saw Donny's nephews in "Joseph" & his nephew David did a BETTER Joseph than Donny in the play.. He had such vocal range. I've also seen Disney's Little Mermaid's own Jodie Benson as narrator ( fabulous) BUT..I HATED the film version of the play as there is NO Pharoh like Johnny Seaton.. Watching him & Donny intereact was totally magical. I will probably always cherish being at Donny's final performance of Joseph in Toronto.. ( & also his fan get together aptly named "May I return to the beginning.." ) I still bring out our secret video tape of that performance to watch & reminisce.
How cool that you were in the play.. what part did you have? I'd think it would be cool to be an apache dancer.

Re: Any dream will do...

I was singing Jesus Christ Superstar earlier this evening--which isn't that big of a coincidence because I think of/sing it quite often.

But the only Broadway play I've seen is Phantom of the Opera, and it was gorgeous.

Re: Any dream will do...

Secret Garden is one of my favorite's as well. I played Martha in a regional theater production here. (Although my heart is in Lily's part, my soprano isn't!)

But my all-time favorite is Rent. Seeing it on Broadway with the original cast was life changing.

Re: Any dream will do...

Since I manage a professional musical theater...it is SO hard to pick just one.
www.gatewayplayhouse.com

We also live 1 hour outside of Manhattan so we go to broadway several times a year.

The musical we have gone to NYC to see the most is Aida.
My kids know every word since I play the CD in the car all the time.

I have 3 favorites we have done at my theater...
Phantom, Miss Saigon and Swing.

My favorite music is from Aida or Phantom

My favorite song is from Miss Saigon
"Sun and Moon"

you are sunlight and I moon
joined by the gods of fortune
midnight and high noon
sharing the sky
we have been blessed, you and I.

Way too hard to pick!

Re: Any dream will do...

Ah, an easy question! Definitely "Les Miserables", with 'On My Own' and "A Little Fall of Rain" being my favorite songs, although I love them all! My DH and I had the extreme pleasure of seeing Lea Salonga in the role of Eponine when we were on our honeymoon in London, and I doubt anything will ever surpass that performance (although I've seen the play at least 5 times in various cities/countries)
And now that it's in my head, I'm reading the boards with the 10th Anniversary Dream Cast DVD playing in the background

Re: Any dream will do...

So far my favorite is Cats. I did get to see on Broadway and when I walked into the Winter Garden Theater I started crying I was so happy to be there. Phatom of the Oprha is aslo a woulderful show. I will get to see Josph at a locale theater this fall and am hoping Mom got tickets to Lion King for this Febuary. Then Lion King will move into the top spot I'm sure.
