As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I just did this tournament last Thursday and thought I would share that it was GREAT! We had an awesome guide on our boat, and between three of us caught 20 fish (which at 10 AM in 80 degree weather is pretty impressive). All large mouth bass, all but 2 were above a pound, and half were above two pounds. There are two trophies--one for largest fish caught and one for total combined weight of your first three fish (if you catch more than three, it's the total weight of your largest 3 fish). I, sadly, did not win either.
I hadn't heard much about it, but I'd been dying to do the regular fishing excursions, only my husband gets motion sickness, so I would be solo and never wanted to pay the $270 fee for just myself. So, this was a great alternative. If you like to fish, you won't be disappointed!

DisneyDiva--they do them every Thursday at 10 AM. I think four boats can go out with five people on each boat maximum. We had two boats only with four on each. It's $70 per person, which makes it great if it's just you--you are only paying for one! They provide all bait and there is a continental breakfast with coffee, juice, pastries, and fruit. Once on the boat there were sodas. They do provide you a box so you can pack up your breakfast and take it with you. The guide will bait your hook and take the fish off, but he cannot cast or bait your hook. (That is against the tournament rules). The little trophies were pretty cute. It leaves from The Contemporary.
Apparently, since it's just started, there hasn't been many attendees. I only found out about it because I called to book the regular excursion, and the DVC person told me about it. I have never done the regular excursion, but the added competition on this one made it really fun!
wow we did the excursion last summer if u got 5 people it would be 350 we paid 270 for 5

Thanks so much. We have always done this with a party of 4 or 5 to split the cost, this year it is just my DH and DS who want to fish. I think this may be the option we need.

It is definitely NOT a good deal if you have 4 or 5 people. If that's the case, you would absolutely want to do the other one. This one is only good if you have fewer folks and don't want to pay the full fee for the guided tour. Although our guide did say he has had groups of five who have opted for this one because of the tournament style and the breakfast. It will be on my must do list from now on--provided we go in good climate weather.

Thanks so much for sharing info about your experience Geri! I signed up for this DVC fishing tournament for my upcoming Nov trip, and your posts answer a lot of questions I had. Sorry you didn't win one of the trophies! Couple of more questions if you don't mind. Did you use live bait or lures -- if lures, do you have a choice or is it up to the guide (or is there only one kind available) -- if bait, what kind of bait do you use? Do you get a spinning reel/rod (or spincasting reel or baitcasting reel)? When I signed up through DVC member services, they told me they have up to 4 boats with 4 people each (16 people max) for each Thursday fishing tournament, but from what you say, I guess they can bend that a little bit and have 5 per boat if they need to. I was told to meet at the Contemporary Hotel boat dock -- is that where you went as well? I had always wanted to try fishing at WDW, but before the price was always too much for me as well -- this new DVC Fishing Tournament at $70 for 1 person was just the thing for me too! Thanks again for the info!
Wow! My family would love this. Thanks for posting!
If you have 3-5 family members, you may want to consider the "regular" fishing excursion that has been available for some time. If you have a WDW Passporter book, there is a page that mentions it -- look up "fishing" in the index. (My Passporter is very old, so I'm sure the page number is much different now).

You can apparently book one of those for up to 5 persons for $235 total (for 1:30pm fishing) or $270 (for 7am or 10am fishing) -- plus there may be a DVC discount available for these. Never done those so cannot advise further. I always wanted to do the fishing excursion, but it was too expensive for me (just 1 person). This new DVC fishing tournament at $70 per person is great for 1 or 2 people -- I just signed up for this for my Nov trip. However, for 4-5 persons, especially with youngsters , the "regular" fishing excursion may be a better deal, plus it may be more kid friendly in that the fishing captain/guide can help you and kids with everything. From what Geri said, and other things I've been reading, for the new DVC fishing tournament, the guide will only net and weigh any fish you catch -- they apparently aren't supposed to help you (with your fishing) in any other way.
