Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Magic bands, rewards redemption, visa

I was going use my credit card for everyone to use with the magic bands so we can all receive the perks, but the Disney Visa can not be used through the magic band. You have to use the Visa or redemption card when charging.
There will be some days in which our party of 10 will not be dinning together and I will be the only one with a Disney visa (nobody will be applying ).

Can I give my sister one of the rewards redemption cards to receive the perks without any problems?

I'm not familiar with the Disney Visa card's rules, so I can't answer your question, but I have one of my own:

Why can you not use your Disney Visa for charging through your party's Magic Bands? Are you not staying on-site?

If you are all staying on-site, and you're all on the same reservation, you'll all have charging privileges through your Magic Bands. All you have to do is enter your Disney Visa's information into your MyDisneyExperience account and set up a PIN for each Magic Band. You can also wait until you check in, and the CMs at the front desk will set up the whole thing for you.

Another option is to use your Disney Visa to buy Disney Gift Cards for each member of your party. You'll get the rewards points for the gift card purchase, and they can use the gift cards at any Disney-owned venue on WDW property that's equipped with a magnetic card reader (essentially all the same places you can use a Magic Band).

I think what catey is referring to is that if you use your Magic Band to pay for a purchase, the CM won't know that you're paying with a Disney Visa, which has certain perks attached to it. Since catey mentions that her party won't always be dining together, I assume she's thinking about the 10% discount that's offered at a few dining locations, but I just checked and there's really not that many and they're mostly at resorts. However, according to https://disneyrewards.com/vacation-perks/, you can get the discount by using either the Disney Visa or the redemption card, which is what she asked about.

Have you tried calling Visa to find out what the issue is? Or Disney tech? Because this is so strange.

Gotcha, I understand now!

Ive looked over the link that karen provided and found this in the faq:

If I have a MagicBand or RF-enabled card while staying at a Walt Disney World® Resort Hotel, will I need to bring my Disney Visa Card in order to access Cardmember perks?

Yes, you will need to carry and present your Disney Visa Card to access your Cardmember perks. Using a MagicBand or RF-enabled card alone will not identify you as a Disney Visa Cardmember, even if you have set up your Disney Visa Card as your payment method.
Sounds to me like only an authorized user can get the perks.

But, Chase allows you to add authorized users to your account, and each authorized user gets their own card, which makes the, all elligible for the discounts. So, if there is enoigh time before yoir trip, you could add your sister to your account as an authorized user, get her her own card on your account, and she can use that to get the discounts. You can always remove her from your account after the trip, which would deactivate her card. She wont even know you removed her if she doesnt try to use the card.

Why is it strange that a CM can't tell what credit card is linked to a Magic Band? I would assume that the Disney Visa discount doesn't come up automatically when the card number is entered into the register (because I would assume that the register would have no way of differentiating a Disney Visa from any other Visa) but that instead the CM enters it in manually.

Yes, Karen understands my question exactly. All ten of us are staying at DAKL and different people in our group are planning on eating at Boma, Sanaa and Jiko. As well as whispering canyon and Citricos. There are only two other restaurants that are not discounted for our trip Chef Mickey and Crystal palace or Donald's safari breakfast (undecided at this point).

I am just trying to save a little $ for everyone since the whole bill is going on CC I thought it would not matter if I give my sister the rewards card. I just did not want a problem if they ask to see identification. They never have in the past, but things change.
Thanks,
Catey

It's been a couple of years, but we have used other people's rewards cards and have not had to show identification. I can't remember if anyone even had to sign. The kids have been given the cards by our friend or my mom as a special treat for their trip.

I honestly can't remember, but I'm guessing they didn't use them in one of the stores that offered a discount.

She should not need ID to use the rewards card. I have gone to Guest Services at DTD to pick up a rewards card when we scheduled a last minute trip. The card was not personalized and I did not have to show ID to use it.

I believe anybody can use the Rewards Redemption Cards without showing ID as the Visa card holder. But I don't believe you can get a discount and pay with a redemption card, so no discount with the Rewards Redemption Card.

As I understand it, Magic Bands only tie back to whatever you have recorded to your MDE account -- basically like charging to your room but you don't have to settle-up at the resort. So no, CMs at the point-of-sale have no visibility to what CC is attached to your MB.

Showing the actually Disney Visa card has always been required to get a discount. You could add authorized users and get more cards, but not sure that's really the best scenario. They can apply for their own cards, and be eligible for perks, even if your card is the one tied to the MBs. I'm not sure there is any other work-around to allow your whole party access to perks for 1 card unless you all remain together.

Enjoy your vacation!
