As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Ok, DH has agreed that we don't "need" to see Fantasmic AGAIN, this trip. Whew. As much as I love the show, I was dreading this day on our upcoming trip because 1. I will be exhausted b/c it is our first full day in the parks, and I will be coming off of working night shift & trying to stay up all day.... and usually I don't last that late...., and 2. We just don't like the choices for the Fantasmic Dinner Package, and honestly don't want to WAIT longer for the show if we didn't do the package.
So, now I am excited that we will be able to head to a RESORT for dinner after a short day at DHS (with an early lunch at 50's PTC). I have narrowed my list to choose from down to the following:
Cape May Cafe
Captain's Grille
1900 PF
Big River Grille
The Wave
GF Cafe
Kona Cafe (not really sure about the entree choices for DH but I'm LOVIN the sound of Banana-Chocolate Crème Brûlée)
**I am leaning AGAINST Cape May Cafe & 1900 PF mostly because we have already eaten there before, and I'd REALLY like to try something new!! And, I for some reason remember being very COLD at Cape May Cafe.... and not sure I want to do a character meal, since it is just DH & I, and I would like to just have a nice dinner somewhere.
So,... where would you choose?
Thanks for any & all input!!!

Personally I love the Wave! The two dinners we had there were amazing and the local wine flight and beer flight were incredible. I'm hoping to add an ADR there if we can add a night!
I would choose Big River Grille. It is one of our favorite places. The meatloaf is the best at WDW (IMO) and the bbq sandwich is amazing. We've never been disappointed with anything we've gotten here. Also, if you like craft beer, they have some really great selections made on property.

I liked Captain's Grille when we had dinner there on a recent trip. Good service and tasty food. And the atmosphere was fairly calm (which I find a rarity in dining at WDW).
Kona Cafe is also a choice I like.
I would definitely try something new. I vote on Big River Grille or The Wave. Both have great food.

Are you planning on going right from DHS to dinner or back to your resort before your meal?
If you are going right from DHS, I would pick Big River Grille or Captain's Grille to stay in the area (or one of the signatures over there, YUM)
Otherwise I love Kona Cafe and the Grand Floridian Cafe
I am pretty sure we will just be heading to the resort directly from DHS. I am also leaning toward Captain's Grille because of that, and DH chose 2 of the menus he liked the best - Captain's Grille & Grand Floridian Cafe. He said he will look at those 2 again to decide unless I have a preference (but I did forget to print out Kona Cafe so when I get home in the morning that will be a 3rd option).
I would go with Kona Café. However I'm glad to see some votes for Big River Grille, since in the past it has gotten some pretty negative reviews. We've never been there but since we are staying at YC for part of our trip this August maybe we will give it a try . . .
Cape May Cafe - Good food for Dinner, but I skipped this one since you are looking to pass
Captain's Grille - Just dined here for lunch back in February and it was very good. Had the Lobster Roll , which was really good. The dinner menu is a bit more expensive, but still reasonable.
1900 PF - Have never had dinner here, only breakfast which is quite nice.
Big River Grille - Only had lunch here, which was good. Often times they are quite busy at dinner time and the host or hostess will try to seat your party outside on the Boardwalk (which is nice if it isn't too hot).
The Wave - skip
GF Cafe - Good, Good , Good. I would pick this one
Kona Cafe - Had lunch here back in January and it was soooo good. Had the pulled pork tacos and they were amazing!

ok so DH handed back the 3 menus (Captain's Grille, Kona Cafe & GF Cafe) and said I can pick! (he will probably just tell them to make his steak PLAIN if that's possible)....
I'm leaning toward Kona Cafe (MOSTLY b/c I definitely want creme brulee during our trip & they have a banana/chocolate one there I really want to try).
I have actually eaten there before, but only for breakfast.
Just have to try to figure out the transportation issues, and I think that is what I will book.
Thanks everyone for all your input!!
ETA: ugh, I should NOT read dining reviews. Apparently they have recently changed the menu at Kona Cafe (???) and people are not giving good reviews....so still deciding.... has anyone eaten here REALLY recently?

I'm a huge fan of eating at places that are easy to get to. I don't like wasting time on transportation, so I would go with something that I could get to from the boat at DHS. I'd probably chose BRG since it's close, you don't need a ressie, and it's on the Boardwalk, which is a great place to be in the evenings!
