As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I have two questions about this new Memory Maker photos.
1) This is the old Photopass+, right? From everything I've read, that's what it's saying to me.
2) I'm not reading anything about getting a disc with the photos - just downloads. I truthfully don't think my computer could handle that kind of download (we usually get a couple hundred pictures to start, then I edit them to even more) so I'd much prefer a disc. Is a disc an option - even if it's an additional cost - or is it strictly downloads?

Yup.

You can still buy a CD for $29.95 I found on one blog. Don't know if that's current info or not, though.
Might be simpler if you know someone with a higher-powered computer to buy a pack of burnable CD's or ask if you can pay them for one of theirs if they have a spare and download your photos there, burning them onto a CD. Bet that'd be cheaper than Disney's $29.95. Then, you've got your own CD much cheaper.

1) The new Memory Maker product is very similar to the old Photopass+ product, but has some differences. Firstly, it's a digital download only, no disk. And secondly, the anyone in your party can scan their Magic Bands to get the 'special' dining and attraction photos that are not included with regular PhotoPass (with PhotoPass+, only the special PP+ card could be scanned to add those 'special' photos).
2) I know that I have seen the option to get a PhotoCD with Memory Maker for an extra $30, but I cannot find it anywhere in the PhotoPass site. It's possible it was a limited time only offer, or perhaps they discontinued it for some reason. You CAN still lay out the outrageous full $150 cost for a PhotoCD, which will include all of the pics in your PhotoPass account, including the 'special' ones.
What is it about your computer that you don't think can handle the download? Ram? Hard drive space? Speed of your internet connection? All of those problems can be overcome, and the download is immediate, while the disk can take up to 10 days to arrive. Dot is also correct about burning your own disk being way cheaper than laying out $30 for a disk, assuming you have a CD or DVD burner on your computer. Blank disks cost only a buck or two.

All of the above. Actually not all of the above, I know I have plenty of hard drive space but that's the only thing that's not a problem. Every time I go to a Disney site, it tells me my browser is outdated and I need to get IE10 (either 9 or 10, I can't remember which now) - my computer only supports IE8. Lenny put in Safari for me but even opening things on that takes forever. The people I know - with the exception of one - even if they had newer, faster, better computers I wouldn't ask them for the time of day let alone something really important like vacation memories. The one I would ask the time of day from, I just wouldn't want to impose on him (and I'm not entirely sure he even has a computer at home) so for me, it would be easier to spend the $30 to ensure I'm getting what I want.

I found out from DISboards that it shows up in the products page once you have activated mm and downloaded your first photos.

If your computer only supports IE8, then I'm guessing the operating system is still Windows XP.
You've already tried Safari and it's too slow for you, but a more modern browser will definitely help. Try Mozilla Firefox; it's what I use and I've been using it since Windows XP. The current version works just fine with the various Disney web sites and is pretty fast on the PCs I've used it on, including my Dad's oldest PC, which runs Windows XP.
Given that you're planning Disney trips a lot, my advice is to keep looking for a browser that works with the various Disney sites. Disney has put too many of its eggs in the My Disney Experience basket, and anyone who can't use that basket is going to be stuck eating cold cereal for breakfast, as it were. Of course, a lot of people will tell you to just buy a new computer, which is an extreme response but will certainly solve a lot of problems, but not everyone wants to buy a new PC. You can get more mileage out of the one you have by upgrading components like the hard drive and RAM, running cleaning utilities like anti-virus and especially anti-malware apps, and cleaning off files you don't use any more and uninstalling applications you don't use.
For the present problem, the main issues with a digital download are:
1) do you have a fast enough connection to do the download in less than a week
2) do you have enough space on your hard drive for the download?
Even the slowest old PC can do a digital download if it has enough space to store the download. The connection speed is more about convenience; if you're using dial-up, a couple of hundred megabyte download is going to take a long, long time, during which the tiniest glitch in the connection can screw it up and sometimes cause you to have to start all over again. But if you have DSL or cable internet, it's a much faster process and more reliable.
So start by trying Firefox. It should install easily and work perfectly with the Disney sites, and hopefully work faster than Safari. If you can make that work, then you can do the download and not have to spend the extra money and time buying a disk.
Besides, you'll need to be able to get into MyDisneyPhotoPass.com to view and edit your pics anyway, even if you still buy the disk, and your current browser doesn't seem to be up to the task.
Dangit, I forgot something important - Microsoft is discontinuing all support for Windows XP on April 8, 2014. This means no more critical security updates, which means that anyone who is running Windows XP after April 8 is vulnerable to all sorts of nasty stuff that runs around the internet. Windows XP: It's time to say good-bye
So, put everything I wrote in the last post on the back shelf, Darlene. Your priority in the next month should be to upgrade your primary PC to Windows 7. You can either do that by buying a new PC and scrapping the old one, or by upgrading the operating system.
Upgrading the OS is not impossible, even for those who are not technophiles. My Dad upgraded two of his PCs on his own, without any help from me (still gotta get his 3rd one upgraded, but he doesn't use it much so it's a low priority.) Those PCs were both bought in 2007, so they're older, but they handle the Win7 upgrade quite well.
And if you have less than 4gb of RAM on board, you'll need to upgrade that, too. RAM is not terribly expensive; if you have 2gb and need 2gb more, you'll probably spend under $40. I can't link to RAM, though, because there are a lot of different kinds and you need to buy the right one for your PC.
So, to upgrade your existing PC to Windows 7 will cost you between $100 and $250.
A bare bones new system, i.e. one that is just the computer but you keep your current monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers, can cost you as little as $300 when equipped with Windows 7. There are also some good inexpensive notebooks out there for under $300, though you get more bang for your buck if you get a desktop, and a desktop is upgradable later in ways that a notebook is not.
Upgrading RAM, hard drive, and OS is a weekender project, not terribly difficult if you prepare ahead of time. And it can be a lot of fun. Just like a WDW vacation!
This is answer is a completely different idea - I think you mentioned before that you have an iPad for your daughter? If so, could you download the pictures to her iPad then store them on the iCloud? From there, you should be able to transfer, after editing etc, the pictures you want to print to your computer OR send them directly to a store (Walgreens/CVS,etc) to print from their kiosk?
