As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

In the past, we've gotten Fps for an attraction for like ToT for everyone. But DS and MIL won't go on it. So can we still books their Fps, me and DH go on, then grab their bands and go on a second time right after?

Yes you can use their MagicBands. I always booked FP+s for the 5 us of, even though I knew only the 3 boys would want to ride some of the "thrill" attractions. They were able to ride once, then switch out their magic bands for ours, and 2 of them were able to ride again immediately after. The CM's are only scanning to see if the magic band has a FP on it for that location and time it seems.
Well, I suppose there's nothing that says you can't use a family member's Magic Band to double up on the popular rides. After all, their paid stay does grant them the FP+ privilege even though they aren't going to use it.
Even so, I'm uncomfortable with doing this. Is repeating the ride by using a family member's band when they haven't any interest in the ride fair to others? Others who may not be able to get a Fastpass at all for that favorite high-demand ride on their one day in the park because you enjoyed it twice in a row?
Doing this may not violate the letter of the law, but what about the spirit?

Someone mentioned that the other people could do a different fast pass at the same time, but it was my understanding that when you are picking your fast passes, you can't split your group. Is that correct? Like 3 get Tower of Terror fast passes while 2 get TMM fast passes at the same time. I don't think that's an option, right?
From my most recent experience last month, you can not overlap times within your group even if you split experiences. It was definitely a challenge for our family because, in the past, we often toured as "divide and conquer". I am hopeful as they continue to tweak the system, Disney will find a work around to allow families to split up as needed.

I haven't had a chance to try this, but what I do remember when making FP was that it asked which people were supposed to be included for that FP you could leave some out and then you should be able to choose for them. There should be a way of doing this. Maybe a call to the IT folks will help you figure out how to do it.

I don't see the problem with this, it is no different than in the old system where you'd get paper FP for everyone in the party, then just those that wanted to ride would use up the FPes. You aren't breaking any rules, Disney allots the FPes per paying park ticket, so what does it matter if it is four different people, or two twice, as long as you aren't getting SIX per four park admissions?
The only thing I will lament with this new system is the Disney Magic that would be spread by people giving away their unused FP tickets for some of the bigger attraction rides. I always loved receiving them, or giving them if I had the opportunity as well. One of those little things that is now gone...as I'm not giving someone my MB :P

It's funny how quickly people try to figure out how to scam the system, I don't really care one way or the other,it's just the thought of someone spending time and energy trying to circumvent the system. Is it really that important to use the fast pass system more than once in a day? Sometimes the journey thru the queue to the ride itself makes the ride more enjoyable.
Maybe folks who want to ride as many rides as they can to enjoy their time at the parks could buy a special special magic band, at double the cost of admission, that designates them as "special" people.

We'll for one the system has it's downfalls. Many families like to split up for different rides and this is not possible with reserving fp's. You can "leave off" people in your party when selecting fp's, but you can't book them separate fp's.
Another scenario: how about people meeting up with friends staying off-property? Suddenly no one can use the passes or else forget spending at least half your day together. My friend has been mulling over this dilemma and is considering lending mb'svso the boys can do the rides together.
Everyone is trying to make this out to be no big change from paper passed, but I'm sorry it is. The headliners are getting sold out even weeks before tour day. We couldn't change any of ours for the headliners in early December when we changed our park day choices.
Waiting in line is one thing. Getting turned away from toy story at 10:30am on a Monday because fp's are sold out is another. The alternative was a 2hour wait. Not reasonable.
Also, sharing your mb's in no way prevents another person from getting one. Those fp's are already gone in the system whether you choose to use them or not. Another downfall of the system.

Good point, I think.
The way I see it is that doubling up on a ride by getting family members uninterested in it to select that high-demand ride so that you can ride it twice is depriving someone else who'd like one chance to ride it but couldn't get it at all.
Your elderly parents pick Tower of Terror which they'd never do themselves so you or your kids can ride it back-to-back seems to me to create a problem for someone else who'd love to ride it but can't get even one FP and will have to wait for over an hour in line to ride it at all. Is that really fair?

ToT is actually not FP+ eligible (at least for the 2 weeks I was there) which was a bit of a PITA, as that meant standby only. No idea why it wasn't available, as the FP+ scanner machines were installed. Maybe you could only book in-park? Not sure why for that one...
One thing you CAN do to alleviate some of your concerns Amy, is you can "link" people together once in the park, so you can all share experiences between people. We did that when my Mom was with us for two days of our trip, she winters just north of Orlando, so drove down and we were able to link her to our FP+ selections by visiting one of the FP+ kiosks in the parks. Was painless and worked really well.
