Do you go on the Disney Diet? (A tongue-in-cheek topic? - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Do you go on the Disney Diet? (A tongue-in-cheek topic)
You do know, don't you that nothing eaten while at WDW contains calories or anything else unhealthy for you personally, don't you? I'm sure that's true, since I've heard so many people say it's so. The Disney Magic is what does it, of course.
So, do you eat as we do while there? "I can eat anything I want while at Disney, because all the yummy stuff ordinarily very bad for me has been sprinkled with pixie dust."
If you do, what "forbidden foods" do you most enjoy?
(Mine are Mickey bars and Mickey krispy treats...oh, and REAL BUTTER)
P.S. I was so cheered as I went one night into Gasparilla's at the GF to refill my mug to see an older lady standing just outside the entrance clearly enjoying a Mickey bar. An elderly man was sitting in a wheelchair a few steps away, head down and obviously not in the best health.
As I passed, the lady began speaking to him, "Darling, I'm enjoying my first Mickey bar as I always do. Now, I feel I'm really at Disney."

We work on the theory of eat what we like while we're at Disney, especially as we know a lot of walking is involved and will probably help us to work off some of the additional calories we're eating while we're there...
We don't tend to watch what we eat in WDW. Now, I don't eat fried foods, and especially when it's hot, I usually stick to light meals - salads, fruits, very little meat.
I do love desserts, and as we all know, WDW has some of the best ever!
We walk a ton in WDW. I don't worry about weight. I usually lose a couple of pounds while we're there. Of course, I'm "Pooh-sized", so I can stand to lose more than a few!
So, what do either of you, Cheryl or Teresa, enjoy most?
(P.S. Teresa, this is a Disney-guilt-free thread, so you may not mention that dreadful phrase, "need to lose a few pounds," here. We're devoting ourselves to sharing what our Disney yummy delights are, so "Dish the delicious!" What do you enjoy most? < sassy wink >)

Honestly? I'm really not the sort of person who loves a particular dish - I just enjoy good food, so I'm going to struggle to answer that. I could answer more easily which restaurants I like and what types of food (seafood generally and desserts of course ) but specific dishes, that's really tough for me to answer.
When I am in Disney I eat what we like. We love all the TS meals and we eat at one for dinner every night. We will also have a couple of TS lunches during the trip. I have found that probably because of all the walking (or maybe it's the pixie dust) I don't gain weight during the trip (maybe a pound or two, but nothing significant). What I have noticed though is I get home and tend to think I can keep eating like I'm in Disney and I gain some after the trip. :roll eyes:
My favorites are Mickey bars, Dole Whip as snacks. I also love indulging in the wonderful dinners we have. I love trying new foods and I really love appetizers and main courses.
We don't watch what we eat while in Disney - we're on vacation to enjoy it. While there is no particular food we must have at Disney, if we want pretzels or ice cream for lunch (or dinner depending upon our ADR's) that's what we have. If we get back to the hotel at 10 pm at night and are hungry, we'll go to the food court and get something even though we know we'll be going to bed soon. While I don't put "restrictions" on things we eat, this past trip I did on what Abby could eat one day. It was our last full day in the parks when she started our day off by throwing up in the parking lot so I think everyone can understand why I was very careful with what and how much I allowed her to eat that day.
Oh, sure, Darlene. I think quite a few of us, adults and parents minding kids, must restrain ourselves more than we'd rather even when Disney Dieting. That's why I called it a "tongue-in-cheek" topic, hoping that people might mention, too, what they'd love to indulge in if they hadn't to restrict themselves at all.
I certainly understand your needing to monitor Abby's eating, particularly after she got sick like that. I'd love to eat a huge ice cream sundae but know my digestion would not be happy if I did. In fact, it was so warm (mid-80's) when we were in Fantasyland that I didn't feel up to trying a Lefou's brew or new dairy-free pineapple Dole whip. < sniffle! > I couldn't even eat much of my BOG lunch, and it really was pretty good.

We eat whatever we want while there, but I do love all the fresh fruit and veggie options and I do load up on those. We load up on seafood too. That is probably my favorite.
We figure calories don't count when your vacation involves miles of daily walking. I particularly appreciate the variety of non-meat CS options, which suits my normal way of eating, and also leaves caloric room for a nice fat chocolate-coated, caramel drizzled strawberry.
We don't really watch what we eat, but are conscious of how much we eat. Let me explain that Disney dining is among my very favorite parts of my vacations there and I look forward to visiting old favorites and new haunts.
As I pass certain places, the favorites I've enjoyed there seem to call. I have a hard time controlling quantity. Not so much because I must eat an ___oz. portion of any particular food, but because I could easily eat myself silly!
I hate to feel overly full. I can't stand that full belly you've-eaten-way-too-much kind of feeling. So we try to pace ourselves through the day and share when we can to experience as much as we can. (One caveat of sharing noted below...)
My favorites that are hard to walk away from are...
The whole snapper at Cat Cora's Kouzzina. I must have it every trip along with a glass of sangria.
The pizza and arancini from Via Napoli. It is impossible to ignore the siren call of the rice balls!
The cinnamon-sugar dusted almonds found in the snack cart in the Magic Kingdom in the hub. I will not share and ye beware of whose fingers enter the coned paper.
I love the dole whips but my favorite snack overall are the chocolate covered Rice Krispie treats that look like candy corn. DBF and I really only go around Halloween so they're usually around I could eat them all the time!

I snagged several of the Christmas krispy treat shapes on our use-up-snack-credits shopping spree, Wolfy. There were several of the standard Christmas cookie designs--Christmas tree, stocking, tree ornament, Santa hat--all really well drawn in icing on the glazed krispy treat so that each resembled a Christmas cookie.
Yummylicious!

We eat pretty much what we want. With the dining plan we tend to eat more at meals than we normally do, so there is not much snacking going on. We end up using snack credits for treats to take home. Like everyone else, we log in the miles so weight gain on trips does not usually occur.
Well, I don't have much that I have to have. I do love a kaki-gori. We have places we love to eat at (50's Prime Time, California Grill, Les Chefs de France, Paris Bistro to name a few). One of our family "rules" while on vacation is to eat/do something new every day - so I try to not eat things I've already eaten!
Now, at Restaurant Marrakesh, I always get the mint tea and Beef Brewat Rolls. And usually the lamb.
