As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I have been reading on some other boards and blogs that Disney is not allowing a family to get more than one DAS per family, even if there is more than one person with a disability. Has anyone had any experience with this?
We are going in February and both of my kids are ASD and my DD also has ADHD and anxiety. We have always been able to get 2 GAC's because we often split up because my DS does not care for thrill rides (although he is starting to ride a few of them). There are also times that my DH might stay in the room or go to the pool with one child while the others go to the park.
I am not looking at trying to get additional return time, I would just like to be able to get say a return time for my DD to ride RnRC and a return time for my DS to ride something else during the same time frame. Or in the case where we don't all go to the park, if we get the DAS for my DS, and only my DD and me go to the park wouldn't work very well.

I would think being that the photo is now on the card that you should in fact get 2. I would speak to a supervisor if the CM disagrees and explain how you your differently. I would venture to guess each child should have his/her own.

That's what I'm hoping. There is just so much rumor going around and it's making it a bit more difficult for us to plan this trip. Between FP+ and the new DAS I'm a little confused on how to make plans for us and the plans are very, very important. I think the new system should work for us, but I have already been talking to the kids about the changes and how we will be doing some things differently than before. Not having one for each child could be a disaster though, since they don't ride the same things all the time.
When I was there this summer, I got a GAC for myself due to my needs and when I asked for one for my oldest daughter due to her bipolar and anxiety, they gave me a hard time. He said, "You have one, she doesn't need her own." I explained to him that, due to my health, I can't ride any of the thrill rides and she loves them. Since she can't use mine if I don't ride, she would need her own. He gave me an attitude but she did get her own. I would hope that the DAS would be the same. I also have to take more frequent rests and her own allowed her to keep going while I rested.

If you tell them that you need 2 DAS's because you will probably split up they may try to make each DAS for only 2 ppl. I would just take one child through and have Dh take the other child through. But know this...families trying to get more than one DAS for the family seems to be the new way of gaming the system and cheating to get more return times. I have already heard of quite a few ppl doing this on purpose. So they may be hesitant to do that for you because they already know the new thing the cheaters are doing.
And I am curious what exactly does a DAS do to help someone who is bi-polar? If a person who is bi-polar is treated they should be almost perfectly normal. So what accommodations would a DAS provide for a bi-polar person? And they will give a DAS for anxiety? I can see that being a big point of ppl cheating to get a DAS if they will give one out for that.

I would take one child to guest services and have my husband take the other child. Act like two different parties. which you are at times

I have a few concerns with having us each take a child separately to get a pass. First, my DH travels, a lot, and is currently overseas (left before Halloween) and won't return until just a few weeks before the trip. Since he is not here for such a long period of time before the trip, he would be uncomfortable addressing their needs in the best way. Second, I would feel like we are being "sneaky" and not being up front with our needs. I know this isn't the case, but I prefer to be honest. That leads to my 3rd reason, the kids would most likely make it clear that their sibling is across the room and would make it clear we are a family.
We would be fine if they had to make the cards 2/2. Our reason for needing the DAS is not in anyway for additional return times. But we might get a return time for my DH and my DD for one ride and at the same time get a return time for Me and my DS for a different ride. My only concern with 2/2 would be if my DH stays in the room and the kids and I go, but we should still be fine getting return times on both cards, that way all 3 of us could ride together.
In the past we did receive GAC's with 3/3 when we were a group of 5. They wanted to give us 2/3 but we said that sometimes my DS would ride with two adults and sometimes it would be my DD. They were understanding and made it the 3/3, the extra made no difference during the trip. So, we have dealt with having the different numbers on the 2 cards. This trip will just be the 4 of us, so 2/2 would work fine.
