Switzerland road trip digital photobook COMPLETED 10/15 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Switzerland road trip digital photobook COMPLETED 10/15
Having slaved away on my various digital photobooks, I wanted to share this one with you. I can’t share the family ones with you that I’ve done as Christmas presents, but this one?
For this one, I went for a 12 x 12 book, so it was a very different process of designing it, as usually the books I get are closer to A4 size. It meant on some pages I could put a lot more photos and still have them at a reasonable size, so it gave me a lot more flexibility.
It might take me a while to post this book up, as it was a big one – over 100 pages…
The front cover – you may not be able to read the text. It says “Switzerland – September 2013. A holiday of mountains, lakes, thermal baths, stunning scenery and cows…” which I thought summed things up quite nicely! The story of our first night – more text on this page than I’d usually use, but I thought it was needed to tell the story The bit you can see along the bottom is clipart from the programme I use I liked the idea of putting the text over the flower of the background page and I’m pleased with how that came out A couple of the photos on this page have shadowing, just in case you’re wondering I’m not sure the text worked 100% on the background, but it was hard finding something that contrasted well enough with the background The first of many pages which are just made up of photos and no actual background paper The background came from an image of the Swiss flag that I found online, then I made the text fit the white cross beneath So nice to be able to use the Japanese style background paper and clipart I haven’t used this text before, because it’s so ornate, but it seemed to fit the style of this spread perfectly It’s hard to get the pages properly displayed for photos – the text on this says “Lunch at a Swiss chocolatier – heaven!” I really like the way this page came out and the randomness of it The paper seemed to fit the photos perfectly – and I was really pleased with how closely I was able to match the colour of the text to the clipart in the corners The sunset background paper went perfectly with the photos on this spread…

I love the fun feel to this page – the text and the background paper just seem to compliment each other perfectly The “bienvenue a Gruyeres” sign was a photo I took of the sign that I was able to crop down… The text on this page says “We headed for the chateau, as admission was included with our trip. What a beautiful place!” Unfortunately the top text is a bit hard to read: “We got our first view of the formal gardens from above, then we were able to talk through it at the end of our tour”. It’s a very nice change to be able to have so much of the background paper showing through on a page See what I mean about how many photos you can fit on a page with this size of book? Two of my favourite photos of the whole vacation The flowers you see on these pages are clipart Again, the signs were actual photos that I just cropped down The film strips were clipart, although sadly the photos didn’t quite fit them, which was annoying, but this was the closest I could get it… The background paper here is snow – appropriate I thought! And more snow for these pages too… A fun cow page! I felt these photos spoke for themselves and didn’t need anything else, they were beautiful enough on their own

Her pictures are usually of the street as she heads into work, then of the current hotel to show us where she's been stashed this trip. One of these days she will get a chance to really see the city, and hopefully some of the country, too!

Beautiful! Really liked the pictures of Basel - DD Tanja travels there for work regularly but never really gets a chance to see much of anything. Her pictures are usually of the street as she heads into work, then of the current hotel to show us where she's been stashed this trip. One of these days she will get a chance to really see the city, and hopefully some of the country, too!
Oh I hope she does, as it's such a beautiful country.
Ok, here’s some more… we pick up on the day we went to Interlaken, then on to a couple of museums
With the plane photo, I was able to zoom in on it, using the software that’s part of the programme I use A very fun double page spread! And I think the text on these pages just says it all…. I was so glad to just use the one photo on a page – I wanted to do more of this, but there were just too many good photos to pick from! I was really pleased with this double page spread – another example of being able to fit a lot of photos on each page to illustrate what we saw, yet still these pages don’t look that busy… With this page, I made the borders of the photos the same colour as the background paper, so the whole theme followed through… I like the simplicity of this page – it allows the beauty of the photos to shine through One of my favourite double page spreads of the whole book – I just love how these photos turned out The view from our room the next morning This is us going through the 10 mile Gottard Tunnel again the writing isn’t easy to see I love this page with all the flowers Again, the clipart on this page comes from the program I use. I figured it was quite fitting, being that we were in the Italian part of the country The “paper” for this page is a photo of the Swiss flag blown up to the size of the whole page Again, the writing’s not that clear to see. It says “We headed next to the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz to enjoy their thermal baths – and wow, they were quite something!” The bottom left photo is a cheat taken from their website, as obviously we couldn’t take photos inside the baths, but they were so amazing, I wanted a record of them The text on this page says “Another day, another country – this time Liechtenstein.”
