As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

So we were planning on going to Disney this year for Thanksgiving. Then going again next year for either Mardi Gras week or Easter. I bought an annual pass to use for the trips. However, my wife just found out she's pregnant and the baby is due in January. We're still planning on going this Thanksgiving so our 2yr old can get to go this year. She'll be 32-33 weeks pregnant when we go. However, the trips next year are now out of the question because the new baby will be too small so we decided we'll just go in Nov 2014 again instead of Mardi Gras or Easter.
My question is since it does no good to use the AP voucher I already bought since it would expire before we go back again could I use it at Disney as credit towards 2 6day park hoppers? I know you can upgrade tickets to APs but I didn't know if it worked the other way as well. It's an AP voucher and hasn't been activated yet.
I don't believe that you can do that. What I would suggest is to hold onto the AP voucher and activate it in a year where you can use it for more than one trip. They do not expire and you can save it to activate in a year or so when you can get more use from it. You could call and ask to see if it can be exchanged, but I doubt you will be able to.

Yes, save your vouchers for some year in your future. That's money saved for that future trip(s), though you'll have to put out more money for your trip this November. Buy all new tickets for the exact amount of days you need for this Thanksgiving trip. It might hurt the wallet now....but when you do get to use the vouchers you will have saved money (since prices continue to grow each year).
WDW won't give your AP vouchers as credit for anything other than what you purchased.
You're going for Thanksgiving 2014. Your AP would thus run out, what, early to mid November of 2015, yes?
So, make the next trip in October of 2015. That's within the 12-month window of an AP. And you'd get to experience a whole different holiday's decorations, events, and so on. And your new baby (congrats, by the way!) would only be one month younger than you're already considering, sooooo .....
Since you are going this Thanksgiving (late Nov.) and next Nov. again, just plan the 2014 trip for earlier in Nov. so it is still within your one year window.
I wish I could plan a trip earlier than next Thanksgiving so we could use the Annual Pass vouchers we have but that's not likely to happen. My wife is a teacher and she only gets about 10 days of leave per year to use but she gets off the week of Mardi Gras, Easter, Thanksgiving and a few weeks for Christmas. She does get from June to early August off for the summer but we both agreed we'd never go during the summer because the heat and crowds just are not worth it. So in order to be able to use the APs this year and next year the second trip would have to be either Mardi Gras or Easter and that's pretty much not going to happen with a 2 or 3 month old. Next year Thanksgiving week falls in such a way that we would only be able to get 1 days use out of the pass.
I guess I'll just have to suck it up and put out the $700 or so for our park hoppers for this trip and save the passes for next year. But this time I'm going to wait and buy when we actually get to Disney because I'd hate to buy them early like I did the APs and then not be able to use them if we have to cancel the trip due to her being put on bed rest or something.
Oooooh, yeah that would definitely put a crimp in doing the November-October trick I mentioned. Easier for the kids in her class to get out of school, than for her!!

... are you staying at a (non-DVC) Disney resort? Upgrade to a package, and then if you cancel the trip at least 46 days out, you won't be out the extra money ...
We're doing a split stay at AofA Nemo Suite for 2 days and OKW for the remaining 4 days. I'm booking room only because - correct me if I'm wrong you can cancel closer to your reservation date than the 46 days for a package deal. We probably won't know if we can actually go until right before it's time for us to go. I think with room only bookings they can be canceled within like a week or so but you can correct me if I'm wrong. I'm going to call Disney soon and find out about their cancelation policy etc.. so I know for sure when the no turning back date actually is for room only reservations.
Yes I believe the payment schedule and the cancellation policy are more flexible with the room only reservation compared to the rules that go along with the package reservations.
