As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

10K or 13.1 training app recommendations?
I'm a beginner runner and am just about to finish the Couch-2-5K program app. There's SO many running training apps out there, I'd like to hear your recommendations for 10K or 13.1 miles training apps.
I'm going to be doing the Princess Half in 2014, so, eventually I will be training for that, that's why I'm including it above.
I'm thinking of doing the Jeff Galloway program too...just don't know where to go from here, and I like having a prompt to walk/jog in my ear while I listen to music to motivate me, I don't have confidence in myself yet to run the right amount to better my distance. (if that makes any sense)
Jeff was good...the only phrase that I got sick of was "Youre the captain of your ship" besides that it was good. The only other thing that I would recommend you do if you get it, is sync some of your own music...nothing worse than doing a 12 mile run and hear a song 18 times over and I still dont know what they are singing! (I housed you? I moused you? I have no clue!!!) Those of you that have done the Jeff program know what Im talking about!

I don't have an app, I just follow a program from www.halhigdon.com I see he has apps now as well. I don't run the whole thing either, so it's like a modified Hal/Jeff program I suppose! I use Hal's distances and training dates, but use Jeff's idea of run/walking. I created my own ratios and use them depending on how I'm feeling. A good running day is 6 mins running/1 minute walking. A not so good day is 5/2. A really bad day is whatever I can tolerate!
I guess what I'm saying is you can start with any app/program but adjust it to how it works for you personally as you go along and learn your running. After all, you are the captain of your ship.

Thank you!!! I subscribe to Hal on YouTube and watch his videos on Disney races to keep focusing on the prize! I like the run/walk method so maybe I'll try the same formula. Thanks again guys you've been a great help!
(whoops, just followed your link & it's a different Hal....LOL! I'll still check it out thank you!)

This is great advice for me too, since I'll be finishing up the C25K program in the next couple weeks. I think I'll focus on being comfortable with a 5k before moving on, but like Susie I enjoy having someone prompt me when to walk/run during the training period. Does Galloway have an app?

I'm finishing up week 7....how about you? He does have an app, but it doesn't get good reviews on itunes. I currently follow the active C25K app and love it...they have a 5K-to-10K app, but it also doesn't have steller reviews either . I have an app on my phone called Runtastic...I'm going to see if there's something I can do with that.

Keep up the great work!!!
I'm going to run my last day of week 7 today, so we're right about in the same place!! I've been using the NHS C25K podcasts. I also have Rundouble on my phone, but I only used it a couple times because I've been on the treadmill and it couldn't keep track of my distance etc. Now that the weather is getting better and I head outside may try their plan for 5 to 10K or I may try the Galloway method, I haven't looked at any reviews yet.
Keep up your hard work too and keep me posted on your progress!

I use Jeff Galloways 10K and 13.1 training app and love them, although some of his sayings are a little on the corny side. I love that I can sync my own music and it changes the pace of my music when running. I have been using them since January.

I am doing the half in 2014 also! I'm finishing the C25k program and I am signed up for two 5ks! I was thinking of just sticking with 10k and half marathon apps offered by C25k makers. I enjoy the prompts as well
Susie, How is your training going? Monday I ran the first 30 minute run for week 9! It went really well for me . I guess that means that I need to find myself a 5k soon.
Congrats Kylie! When are your 5k's? Although I'm running 30 minutes, I'm not at 5k yet. I think I'd like to increase my distance some before signing up for something.

I just finished yesterday! I hurt my knee so had to take a week off. I'm still not 100%, and the last day of running 30 min I had to walk for a min twice...but it's done! God only knows that I never thought on day 1 that I would be able to run 30 minutes straight! I was so damn excited to run 1 min! I am SOOOO slow...in 30 minutes I'm no where near 3.1 miles...but I'm running, and that's all that matters! I have a 5K at the end of April, one in May (the day before I leave for WDW) and another one in June. I'm not going to lie, I'm a little scared to run with "real" runners...but hey, at least I get a t-shirt!

Congrats on finishing the program!! I hope your knee is back to 100% real soon! I feel like a slacker that I haven't signed up for a 5k yet when you have 3 scheduled. I know exactly how you feel about being slow, but like you I'm just happy with myself that I'm actually running for 30 minutes! Keep up the good work!
i am happy to find this thread! while i am not as far along as the rest of you in c25k, i will be starting week 3 on sunday. (ok, so that means i just finishes week 2...ha ha ha). i tried several apps (free ones) recommended to me from other runners. (i have an android phone, no music downloads, i do not have any other sort of electronical paraphenalia like mp3 or whatever gadget people use nowadays. my phone plan is pay each month through t-mobile) ok, that said, i love my rundouble c25k and it has bridge to 10k or ease into 10k also. i did buy the c25kpro app for a whole 1.59 yahooo.....
anyway, i like the statistics it gives, maps of where i ran, etc. and btw, hoping to see you ladies and meet up whilst we run in the future!

I have the rundouble app on my phone too, I love the stats as well! My problem was that I did a lot of training on the treadmill this winter and the gps can't track your progress on the treadmill, so I ended up using NHS Choices on my ipod. Now that I'm beginning to run outside, I can use rundouble again , My last run I used the 30 minute fun run instead of C25K and it worked perfectly!
