As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Did you ever feel like.................
maybe you picked the wrong profession?! I am so sad this weekend, you guys! I won't go into the depressing details, but I really thought after Friday, the weekend couldn't get any worse. Boy, was I wrong!! This has been such a bad weekend for me, I am not sure that I was meant to be a nurse. I love my job, but I feel kind of powerless over certain circumstances and like I should be able to do something for a patient when I truly cannot. I don't usually feel sorry for myself, but this weekend, I feel like maybe I should go sell flowers.
Thanks for letting me ramble.

Re: Did you ever feel like.................
hang in there! we need people like you. if you didn't care, you shouldn't be a nurse anyway. we've all dealt with bad ones. i can't imagine how tough it must be to do what you do. if it didn't affect you, i'd question your humanity. just know that you provide an incredible service to your patients. there's good and bad days at any profession. you get to see people at their happiest moments as well as their saddest. it must be quite an emotional rollercoaster, and i admire you for being able to do it. hopefully, some really good days are just around the corner to help things look a little sunnier. Aww Tara don't feel upset! Somethings you can't control, even if you know you should. It's all part of having a job!
Hope you feel better!

Re: Did you ever feel like.................
I can only imagine how tough the tough days must be as a nurse. Deffinitely puts the "tough days" in my office into perspective. Not so tough after all. Like ariel1 said, thanks for doing the job you do. Takes a special person.

Re: Did you ever feel like.................
i realized after i posted earlier that i might have assumed it was just the hardship of seeing people in difficult situations that was getting to you when in fact, it might be something else. i have several friends in different areas of the medical profession. it's hard these days with insurance issues, understaffing/overworking, malpractce fears, etc. if that's the type frustration you're dealing with, keep in mind the reason you decided on your chosen profession. most likely it was along the lines of helping people. remember that at the end of the day you have accompished that. you had to deal with other stuff that had nothing to do with why you chose nursing in the first place, but you made a difference in someone's life everyday you showed up at work. not everyone can go home with that sort of satisfaction. i hope this is just a passing dissatisfaction you're experiencing, but if you truly are reconsidering a career change, it's never too late. do what makes you happy.

Oh Tara,
I've always admired people who are in the medical profession including you Nurse Tara
You see it all on a daily basis and I am so thankful there are people like yourself when I really need it.
Here's hoping tomorrow will be the start to a better week.

Someone who is very thankful for people like you!

Tara,
I think we all get to this point from time to time but it just shows how much you care about what you do. I wish you had been with me when I was having my babies!
I hope things go better when you go back in.

I'm so sorry that you have had such a tough few days. From the way you post you must be a great nurse. Even if you don't think you've helped your patients I'm sure you have. Cheering you up pixie dust being sent your way.
Signed,
One of your loyal fans.

Re: Did you ever feel like.................
Tara, I know EXACTLY how you feel! Sometimes things happen and no matter how hard we try or want to change things, we just can't...
Right now I am on a "nursing break" & can actually say that I am enoying a NON-STRESS job as a part-time/on-call Cont. Ed Secretary. (I also at times get to fill in as nurse ) However, I do miss my patients & the money (was much easier saving up for Disney vacations when nursing). I laugh at current co-workers when they say how stressful this job is... they have no idea !
I love nursing but for right now "I" needed the break! Sending you loads of Pixie Dust in hopes that it will help out your situation.

Tara honey hang in there! I always think about quitting my job and then I go to work and something special happens and it makes all the good outweigh the bad. Just think about what you will be doing in September!

Tara I am glad today is much better. I have to say that I cannot even imagine you depressed. I am wracking my brain and unable to come up with that mental picture.
Just remember that we all think you're great the next time this happens.

Re: Did you ever feel like.................
Gald to hear today was better Tara!
I tip my hat to you, I know that I couldnt be a Labor delivery nurse...no way no how..couldnt do pediatrics or ER....stick me with the old folks please. I can handle sick elderly much better than sick young'uns....its a little lighter on the heart strings.
I do know the powerless feeling all to well, and it isnt pritty....I loose sleep over things alot, infact I expect to be posting here till the wee hours tonight as a matter of fact! I will lie awake tonight and think about what I need to do for who tomorrow.
I also know that if I can make one patient smile or laugh throughout the course of my shift, I am doing alright.
You Tara, were meant to be a nurse.
We are not perfect, we are not able to move mountains, we cant possibly do it all, chances are good that our supervisor is the antichrist and glued to her chair....but with one touch, one smile, and some brain power mixed with heart felt concern...we are DAMN good!

Tara, I am so thankful for people like you. I can't even imagine how stressful your job must be. It takes a very special, kind person to be a nurse and you definately fit the bill! Thank you for all that you do. I'm glad that your job was better today!
