Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Tell me your secrets for enjoying the other resorts after you'e been there for dinner!!

i.e, at the Poly, would you head to the beach after and enjoy the hammocks and swings to watch the fireworks and water parade? Would you stick around after Boma for the African story-telling? what about WCC, when we're too late to make it in time for the sing-a-long? After 1900 Park fare? love trying new things! about to do trip number 2 and already dreaming of trip number 3!!!!!!

If we go early and we don't have any other plans (like say IllumiNations or Wishes) for that night, we'll explore the resort. It tends to be more about taking photos for me and just wandering around, although I usually do browse the shops, as they all have something different. At the Contemporary, you can go out on the fourth floor balcony and see Wishes, which is always fun to do.

Please keep the suggestions coming. I'm trying to convince my husband to do more exploring at the other resorts this trip. Having some ideas ahead of time would really help!

I think I remember reading somewhere that at AK they also have nighttime viewing of the animals using night vision goggles at one of the Savannah viewing areas. We completely forgot to do that the last time we were there (everyone was exhausted which didn't help I think hehe), but we did do the story time, and it was really good, the kids really enjoyed themselves.

If you go to either the Yacht or Beach Club or Boardwalk area, there is the boardwalk to walk along, tons of great entertainment there at night...I enjoy it more than DTD, and wish it was more accessible from other resorts as well.

Touring the shops at the GF can be great fun as the men's and women's clothing ones carry some very upscale items. The Basin White bath products shop is really fun to tour, too, even though their store in DTD is much larger. You can get custom-made gel soaps with Disney character silhouettes embedded in them.

It can be enjoyable if you're music lovers to sit in the lobby and listen to the pianist late afternoon. In the evenings, there'll be a swing band playing GF-ish music (all pre-Elvis with some later easy listening only. "Old people music," I heard one young non-fan describe it).

Plus, look at the floors in the lobby. There are Disney character silhouettes embedded in the flooring. One of my favorites is near the in-the-wall elevators.

There's a wide veranda along the main building side that goes to the outside entrance to the food court. There are cushy chairs at tables on it with a pretty nice view of the other buildings and grounds.

You can't go above the second floor in the GF main building unless you're staying CL there, but there are some lovely views of the GF grounds and pools from various areas on the two lower floors.

years ago, after a typically wonderful meal at Boma, we happened upon a small salon where a young cast member from South Africa giving us a sort of Travelogue -- best places to see when you visit South Africa. It was wonderful. There were probably no more than ten of us, and we asked questions of him all along. What a delight!

At Wilderness Lodge, there is a Hidden Mickey hunt you can pick up at the front desk. I also love to just sit in front of the fireplace!

Wow! That's a great list! My thought was the carriage ride at POR. I'd love to do that this year.

Love love wandering the resorts at night. The storyteller by the open fire at AKL, the hammocks at the Poly watching the fireworks and the water show and just wandering around the Poly you feel like you are on a tropical island. The jazz singer at the Scat Cat club at Port Orleans FQ is so much fun to listen to and walking between the FQ and Riverside is a lovely evening walk. The Boardwalk is fun - find a chair and sit and watch the world go by or sit by the fireplace at WL and listen to the music. I agree with other posts - all the different shops are fun to look at or hop a boat or monorail and just relax

I'll add that I think WL has one of the quietest beach areas. It's been a couple years since we've been to AKL but they used to have a tour of the African art throughout the resort. We've found a quiet little balcony area at the GF that overlooks the family pool that is quieter during the evening for some drinks.

We've enjoyed Wishes from the Poly beach after dinner at 'Ohana. You can look for the Electric Water Pageant to float by from the beach area of any of the MK hotels (including the Wilderness Lodge and Ft Wilderness); this would be after 9pm/9:30pm-ish. At the WL, watch for Firerock Geyser to blow (I believe it does every hour on the hour until about 10pm). Or walk the short pathway to the Villas at the Wilderness Lodge and explore the lobby there, especially the Carolwood Pacific Room which pays homage to Walt's love of trains, plus there are games to play as well (checkers, etc). There are surrey bikes at the WL (not sure how late you can ride them there) but they are also offered at the Boardwalk. And as mentioned above, the Boardwalk is a great place to stroll and people watch. We've watched magicians and jugglers there and caught Illuminations from the top of the bridge. Many of the resorts also offer movies on the beach or poolside.

We usually show up 30 minutes early for our reservation and walk around the resort checking it out. We have done this at Ft wilderness, Beach Club and Wilderness Lodge. We have never stuck around after our dinner. By then we are usually ready to hit the room.
