As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So yesterday my mom got together with my aunts and some friends for a birthday party. She called me and said they were all asking why I didn't put Mary (my DD) into modeling. Apparently two of the women there had their grandchildren doing modeling for JC Penney, Sears, etc Ads and have a great college savings built up for them. I explained that it was my understanding you have to put out a lot of money upfront to ever try this and it's very time consuming so difficult to do when working full time.
Today, she is watching DD because DH has job interviews. She calls me and mentions she bought DD a makeup kit Every three year old needs makeup right? I don't even wear makeup, LOL! I'm thinking she means a child's kit but I still think she's a bit over the top.
I'm starting to think she has a secret obsession with Toddlers and Tiaras!
Good luck with that. I personally disagree with these people who do things like Toddlers and Tiaras - kids need to be kids, not look like a teenager at age 5.
DD Jaclyn did a commercial when she was 2. DH saw an ad in the Record American (26 years ago) looking for older babies (able to walk/run...follow directions) up to 27 months. We had to go into Boston for the interview...it was July/August and very hot. When we arrived DD and I were sweaty, flushed and wrinkled....I didn't take a change of clothes with me. I just didn't think of it. Well..........there were moms there with TRUNKS of clothing....including make-up and all sorts of hair "needs" including headbands with little bits of hair attached....FOR BABIES. It was a DIAPER commercial, anyway. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I felt like what am I doing here...I felt out of place and "put down" by the looks we were getting. Well.......the "babies" had to be put behind a screen (away from the sight of their mother) and given "commands" to see if they were able to follow instructions...Lots of babies cried and didn't get to the next step. Next the babies had to leave the room (away from the mother). DD completed both steps and we were told that we might get a "call back" later after more auditions were completed. We were going on vacation to York, ME the next day so I gave my mom's phone number just in case. As I said DD looked a mess.....sweaty and flushed from the heat, so I didn't expect a call back. We did get the call back 2 days later and had to leave our vacation to begin filming. If I remember correctly it took 2 days to film the 30 second commercial. We had to be there early for breakfast....they did stage work .....scheduled 2 nap/rest times for the babies....lunch was also provided. The babies each had a nannie who stayed with them when the moms couldn't be with them on stage. We were never allowed out of our "lounge" to watch. It is something I wouldn't want to do over and over. She did make a good amount and we didn't have to pay for anything. At the time......you were allowed to make 1 commercial without being required to join the screen actors guild. It was fun and a great experience, but she and I had no desire to do it again.
I wouldn't choose to introduce make-up to my 3 year old, but to each their own. As far as commercials and modelling, I'm not a fan of that either, but if the child enjoys doing it, then I say go for it.
I work full-time and wouldn't be able to take time off with short notice. I know my mom is trying to think of her best interests but I don't think she has a clue what it would entail. I figure if she keeps up with asking I'll tell her if she'd like to pay for the photos and take her to the photoshoots, she can try it once to see how my DD likes it. My guess is that will get her to back down.
The makeup my mom got her is a child's kit but even children's makeup has ages on the package that it is intended for older children, ages 6 and up. So I put it away at home. I don't need her sticking eye shadow IN her eyes. I just don't think kids so young should be playing with and esp not sharing makeup. It'll get them all sick with conjunctivitis. She has chapstick I let her put on that she calls lipstick, LOL... my mom calls me a stick in the mud!
I watch the show. I don't have kids... I might feel different if I did. Some of those moms are down right nasty.
If it were my child and my mom I would say something like, "Mom, come on do you REALLY think she needs make-up to look prettier?"

I think my BIL had the right idea when our niece (then about 6 or 7) mentioned she'd like a makeup kit as a birthday gift. BIL said please don't buy her anything like that, not even the pretend makeup. He said they wanted her to learn that a good self-image does not come from clothes and makeup.
As he put it, "She can play with Barbie, but we're not letting her BE Barbie."

My kids were in a couple of local commercials when they were little because their dad is "in the industry". They were "freebies" I asked them if they wanted to do it and they did. I'm talking on the cheap, cable commercials. The kids had fun and the shoots were short. My oldest son was asked to go into Boston for one of those agencies and try out for a 'real' commercial. He was picked for one bigger ad and was paid by savings bond because he was not in the union. He had fun that day too, but didn't want to do it again. All I remember was he was one of a couple boys who ran down stairs to go out and play soccer and the 'mom' had to stop them in the kitchen for what ever the product was. Obviously it did not make a big impression on me! I know we received a video tape copy of it... hmm...
