As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I am about 25 days out from our 180-day dining window and am trying to plan all our dining choices. We are going to be in WDW for my 40th birthday and I really want to go to Le Cellier for dinner on my birthday, but I know it can be a hard ADR to get. We are staying club level and I'm hoping luck will be on my side.
But if it's not I need a back-up choice for that night. I am planning to also try to book the Illuminations Cruise that night after dinner. So I need to go somewhere that is a reasonable distance from where the boat picks up (which I'm not exactly certain where that is yet ). We will have a car so we could probably go to a nice dinner at almost any resort and make it in time, but not sure I want to be running around so much. We plan to be in MK in the morning and Epcot in the afternoon/evening but we could change that.
Any thoughts? It will be 3 adults and 3 children (13, 12, 10).
If you are looking specifically for a steak dinnner, Yachstman Steakhouse is excellent. Also, I think the IllumiNations cruise leaves from the Yacht Club, so that would be very convenient. I do think your chances of getting LeCellier are pretty good, though, particularly if you call or get online right at your 180-day window. Honestly, it seems to have gotten a little easier to obtain since it became a 2-credit meal. I would turn in your request with the IPO staff and try yourself if you really have your heart set on it. You can always cancel one if you happen to get 2 ADRs.
I would personally go for the Yachtsman Steakhouse. I suspect, since Le Cellier is now two credits, it will be easier to get into, but the meal we had there last year really wasn't good. I'd honestly go for the Yachtsman given the choice and it'll be much easier for the cruise as well.
I looked over the menus for Le Cellier and Yachtsman Steakhouse and now I don't know which I want as my first choice.
I love, love, love the cheddar cheese soup at Le Cellier and like that the filet (because that is the only thing I will consider at a steakhouse) is served with a truffle butter sauce. I also love the maple creme brûlée. I love the atmosphere at Le Cellier also. We have only been there once, and it's been awhile.
Yachtsman Steakhouse looks really good too! They have a Lobster Bisque and I love lobster bisque. They also have a filet, but it is served with a Cabernet Wine Sauce and I don't usually like sauces on my steak, unless it is a butter sauce, but I might be willing to try it. They do have a plain creme brûlée which I love simple creme brûlée also. I do like the convenience to the boat docks and we could probably push a later dinner and have a little more time at Epcot.
Question: If we have the dinner and cruise, can we park at the Yacht Club mid-day and then walk from there into Epcot, so after the cruise our car would be there to head home? We are DVC members and staying at AKV.
You may be able to - sometimes they do wave you in with no problem with a DVC resort stay on the windscreen. If not and you get a three hour parking permit, then another option is pay to valet park and you can then stay as long as you like.

I agree--Shulas and then Yachtsman over Le Cellier.
And the parking thing (as chezp says) can go one way or the other. Most times when we've parked at YC or BC we've been waved on in w/o any 3 hour pass. Bu technically, the resort lots are intended for resort guests only, so just be aware of that---.

Ok, I know a lot of people love the Yachtsman Steakhouse, but I had a horrible experience there. It was not at all busy, yet they made us wait a long time for a table. Perhaps they were short staffed. Fine. The waiter practically ignored me but doted on my husband. He was foreign, and maybe it was cultural. Fine. But they served me RAW meat. NOT ACCEPTABLE! Especially at a Steakhouse! Not rare. RAW. Also the bathrooms were filthy - not dirty, filthy! It could have been a bad night, but there were just too many things that added together. I will forever recommend people not eat there! Poor service, maybe, but Raw Meat is never ok.
Be on your computer at exactly 6am on your 180 mark and you should get Le Cellier. Perhaps if you could be a bit more flexible with your times too, you might have more luck! Maybe consider a big meal at lunch time instead of dinner?
I vote for Narcoossee's. It is an absolute favorite in my household. A must do tradition. I always book dinner for around the time Wishes will be happening and we watch from the deck.
I went out-of-town for a couple days and now I have more choices.
I am going to have to make a decision very soon and I think I have decided. I was leaning toward Yachtsmans. My original plan was to go to MK in the morning then Epcot for dinner followed by the cruise, but it actually seems like a lot of running around. So I thought with Yachtsmans we could stay at MK longer then return to the hotel and clean up, then go to Yachtsmans for dinner with easy access to the cruise.
However, you Narcoossee's people made me look at the menu and I really want to go there!!! My mouth is watering just reading the menu. There's a Lobster-Corn Bisque and I can get a filet with lobster tail (love lobster!), and for dessert they have a creme brûlée duo that is Key Lime and Coconut custard (I love key lime, and have never had key lime creme brûlée). The only bad part is I know my DD12 will also want filet and lobster and that is a bit pricy, but that may be okay for my birthday dinner. My DS10 (at the time of the trip) loves calamari and would get the appetizer as his meal. I know my DH, Dmom and DD'sBFF will all like either filet or lobster so everyone will be happy. I am going to have to figure out how to make this work and be able to zip over for the cruise in time.
Thank you for mentioning this one, even though it's not the most convenient I think it looks worth a little hassle, and since we have a car it really won't be that bad.

Stefani,
I am also a lobster lover & I can honestly say that narcoosees has the best maine lobsters I have ever had in my life (& we have dined in some fancy NYC fish rerstaurants), narcooses was the best lobster we ever ate, even beyond disney. also, my husband liked the filet mignon at narcoossees better than the filet at yachtsman
Just to add to your choices, I recommend Flying Fish Cafe at the the Boardwalk.
They have a great steak--reputed to be one of the best on property, though I always eat seafood there.
And it's easy walking distance around to the Yacht Club and Epcot.
Flying Fish doesn't really work for me. I really dislike fish, love seafood, but hate fish. The smell is sometimes too much for me. I did check the menu and although there are a couple things I might like, it's probably not something I would pick for my birthday dinner. My DH would love it though, maybe when we go for his birthday.
