As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We are under the 30 day mark so if I am going to write a Pre Trip Report then I better get a move on it.
Cast for this trip:
DH: Don
Myself: Tammy
DS's: Dillon(7) and Grayson(2)
This is from our trip last June which was Grayson's first trip.
Don surprised me and brought me to WDW for our Honeymoon in 2003. I had been two other times before and it would be his first trip. We got bit by the bug because we have been back 6 times since the honeymoon and this will make trip 7.
The original dates that I had booked our trip was May 31st -June 9th. But when I turned in my request off dates it came back to me as denied. I guess my boss at the time was taking her son to Atlantis for a graduation present and another co worker was taking her daughter to Europe for graduation. Umm, hello people you are interferring with my Disney trip. My boss did tell me that the month of July was wide open as were the last two weeks in August. “Thanks, says me but I really don't want to go to Disney in the hot summer months. That is why I am contemplating homeschooling so I can make my own school calendar and not follow a public school calendar.”
So I take my denial home to DH and we discuss and then we discuss some more when we are going to do our trip. We have a few hiccups going on around this time regarding our rent house in Dallas so we even discuss not going to Disney this year. Yeah, neither one of us was enjoying that conversation. At the time I was also planning my girls trip for the “Happiest Place on Earth Bachelorette Party” so DH was a little green with envy that I was going to Disney and he wasn't so he wasn't quite ready to bag the whole idea of our trip.
We ended up choosing July 1st- 9th for a couple of reasons. 1) I think it is going to be awesome to see 4th of July Fireworks over the castle that only Disney can do and 2)my DH birthday is July 11th so we can celebrate it Disney style. My DH job is really stressing him out that he so needs this vacation because he is losing weight. I need to get him to Disney so I can fatten him up with some Disney Dining and let him relax too.
Knowing that we are going at a peak time and that is going to be hotter than any of our other visits to WDW we are going in with a laid back attitude. I picture us taking in more pool time, resort programs for the kids and taking advantage of the Community Hall.
Up Next Resort Choice, Travel Plans and Dining Plans

Great start Tammy. I think at that time of year you have to take the laid back approach or else the heat and crowds will make you so miserable that you won't enjoy yourself. We always go during the school year but with our son entering HS in 2013, I think it may be difficult to continue and may have to switch to the hot summer months. Can't wait to hear all your plans.
You caught me with your title! Great start and I look forward to reading along. I'll be interested to hear how you make out with your new travel dates. I always travel in the winter or fall to avoid the crowds.

I really want to go during Christmas one year but since I work in the Recovery Room every hospital I have worked for has a no vacation policy during December since our peak time of the year. One of these years. Our favorite time of the year though is during early October for the Halloween and Food and Wine Festival.

Glad my title caught your eye. I find the title is always the hardest part for me. This will be the first time we have done hot summer. We usually go October although last year we did go the first week of June and it was really not bad. July I know is going to be a whole different ballgame.

We're going in July, and our 2010 trip was in July as well. We're restricted by school - oldest is in school, husband is a teacher and can't take off and...he coaches so we actually have a 2 week window for vacations. That said, the biggest tip I can pass along is probably one you already know - get to the parks at opening. We had several times where rides in Fantasyland were little to no wait until around 11:00 a.m. After 11:00 , Peter Pan had a 90 minute wait, Dumbo was in the 45 minute ballpark and by 1:00 even IASW had a 30 minute wait. We learned to get up and to the parks early - grab lunch and return to the resort to rest, etc. We also had pretty good luck with lines during the dinner hours.

I've never been in July, but will be going in the summer next year so I'll be interested to hear how you fare. The great thing about being repeat visitors is that you don't HAVE to do everything on this trip. When all is said and done, you'll be at DISNEY and that has to be a good thing!

We were at the World last July and survived! It was trip # 8 for us. Having been in March, Sept. and Nov, we found the crowds weren't really all that bad--I think most people avoid that time of year due to the heat. You've got the right idea with a laid back approach and the other advice about hitting the parks early is right on. The other is to take advantage of extended evening and night hours when it is cool--which ever fits your family's "schedule."
Have a great trip!
We have been in July too and went to MK on 4th of July. The only tip I can really think of is plan which park you will be in on the 3rd & 4th get there early and plan to stay there. The parks we were in closed due to capacity both of those days. They close in phases and on the 4th that year they had a phase 4 closure for a few hours. Should have went to Epcot that day since it is the biggest park. Crowds are managable if you plan for the crowd and take things has they come, for us anyway. Have a wonderful trip!

This is totally my plan. My kids never sleep in past 7 so I'm hoping they keep their internal time clocks set.
