As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

With only 16 days to go until we leave, I'm ready. I keep looking over our Deluxe DCL PassPorter and I'm eagerly waiting to start putting things in our nifty PassPorter Pass Pouch. The excitement is driving me crazy.
I kind of want to start packing now, but hubby says that's over kill.
Oh gosh, it's really hard to keep from packing. It's also hard to say exactly when I start, because truth be told...I have a backpack that we use in WDW and it has stuff in it we only use at WDW, so it's perpetually packed.
For the suitcases though...I usually do it within the week of going and add stuff to it all along putting the last stuff in the night before we go.
This past year was torture for me as we were surprising our DD and not telling her till the morning we were leaving. So my only choice was to pack while she was at school the day before we left. For 2 weeks I was dying to get out the suitcases and start, but had to wait.
The girls start 4 or 5 days before we leave. I do it before I go to bed the night before we leave. I don't need much, since there is laundry there and will prob. buy a few shirts at Disney. Gives DD more room to bring stuff home

I ususally start packing the day before I leave. It is an afternoon flight I will pack in the morning. The key for me is to make sure my boys have enough clothes that will fit them ahead of time. They are growing so fast. As long as I don't forget my passport and door decorations I am good to go....lol
For our WDW/cruise vacation in 2009, dw and I had a long folding table set up in my office (I work from home) about a month before the trip. We put clothes and stuff on the table so we would not forget anything. Suitcases came out about a week before we left.
We drove and went to San Antonio after the WDW trip, so we had a lot more to pack than normal.

I like that idea. Maybe I'll start setting things out on the guest room bed. We keep our suitcases in the guest room closet, so everything will already be there waiting for them...and I'll start feeling like I'm packing lol.

I start probably a week to maybe 3-4 days before my trip. I will get travel-size toiletries and things a week before at Target and set out a folding table a week before and continually add clothes, ziplock bags, snacks, etc. on the table and put everything in suitcases the night before and also pack a carry on bag
Well. I haven't "packed" but yesterday I pulled out all the disney clothes bought for the girls, and mine I had tucked away. And we have over 60days until we leave......lol But we are going to be gone 14days, with 7 people. I need to have things figured out in advance, so I'm not rushing around at the last minute. But this worked out ok,
I usually start in earnest the weekend before we go, although in truth, I always have a box packed with some bits and pieces. If we're going out of season (i.e. the winter here), then I usually put our summer stuff into a pile ready a good few weeks beforehand.
I am Kylee and I have a problem! I am way too eager to pack!
Just this week DH planned a surprise trip to Bali leaving this Sunday! I have been itching to pack but need to wait until the kids are at the movies tomorrow...it's killing me!
Add to it the suitcases and carry on luggage are lightly packed for Tokyo and we don't leave until June-lol. Of course as a disney trip I have certain things 'always' packed plus a flight bag and out of season clothes for my DS. Never too early to be prepared I say.
I may start preparing to pack well in advance, depending on the trip, to check if I have all the stuff I'll need (clothes, camera gear, luggage, etc.) - I give myself enough time to shop at a relaxed pace. The actual packing waits until the day before the trip.

For actual packing, I start about a week or so in advance but that's because I have a set of vacation clothes for us and they only get worn on vaction. As for getting ready and putting things aside for vacation, we have a spare bedroom and I'll start getting things togehter at least a month or two before and making piles on the extra bed.
i also forgot to mention about a month or so before i start making lists of what i want to pack as far as toiletries, clothes, hair straightener, gel, hair spray, snacks, water bottles etc and which bag/suitcase they're going in....I also LOVE looking at the travel section too....i look almost every time i go to Target or the grocery store....hahaha!!
