Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Red face FJ Opinions

I am trying to decide if I should take motion sickness pills. I have never gotten sick on a ride but I am a ride wimp and don't go on any ride that has a drop. I am fine on the motion simulators and love the swings that are at carnivals. Knock on wood I am pretty healthy and don't take meds very often so I don't know if taking a pill before the ride will iritate my stomach or if I should take it. Should I take something or not? If I do take it do I take one the night before and one with a light breakfast in the morning? Thanks!

Try using ginger capsules. I am very prone to motion sickness and these have been awesome.

Unlike some motion simulator rides this ride DOES move you around quite a bit. It also has many parts which can set off motion sickness. However if the swings at the fairs don't make you sick then this shouldn't.

We found that Motion-Eaze worked for my DH. It's basically a small bottle of essential oils and you dab a little behind your ears. I like the smell of it - it's a kind of peppermint-y lavender-y eucalyptus-y scent. I couldn't smell it after DH put it on so it's not like you are wafting big cartoony stink lines after you as you walk either. So that might be a non-drug way too. We bought it in the pharmacy section of Walmart where the Bonine is.

Ginger upsets DH's stomach really badly, so that wasn't an option, but ginger capsules or candied ginger are supposed to work really well too. Gingerale helps too so if you wanted to bring a bottle in with you and explain at bag check that it's for motion sickness (if they ask) I doubt they'd have a problem with that.

I vote for motion sickness medicine. Good stuff that you know works for you.
I took something with my breakfast and did fine. Though I honestly can't tell you whether it was Dramamine or Bonine. I've bought both.
My SIL got off the ride and headed straight to the wastebasket to throw up.
My DH -- who usually can ride anything, and makes fun of my motion sickness issues -- was flat out on a bench for over an hour before he could do anything else.

I haven't personally tried ginger, but I've heard it is really good.

I've never gotten "severe" motion sickness before (I've felt dizzy & stuff, but nothing more), but as I am completely paranoid, I do take the medicine before big rides or plane rides. I think my being nervous makes me feel sicker than the actual motion, but if I know I've taken the medicine it calms me down. Anyway, my point is, my preferred pill is Bonine. DH's bff is an ear doctor who specifically deals with dizziness and motion issues. He said he has always gotten the reponse from clients that Bonine is much easier on their stomachs than Dramamine. Also, Bonine is chewable, so you can take it at any time even if you don't have a drink. It recommends taking it at least an hour prior to motion events. Good luck!!! I will be interested to hear how you do if you try the meds, because eventually my DH is going to force me to go to Universal again (when DS is tall enough to ride everything, even though I would prefer to stay in my Disney bubble ) and being an HP fan, I know I will want to ride it.

I would take something to be safe before FJ. It is really intense! And I've never had any trouble with taking a motion sickness pill - they counteract nausea, so it shouldn't upset your stomach. I've taken bonine and dramamine, and generics. Not much difference, but the chewables are nice as you can take them anytime.

Thanks for the suggestions! Bonine is over the counter, is that correct? Also, if someone could explain about this ride such as what this ride is like and about the parts that make people feel sick because my husband is trying to decide on whether to try it or not. Thanks!

Yes, Bonine is OTC. It's essentially the same as Dramamine, but some folks have better luck with one than the other.

Short answer:
Soarin meets a motion simulator on steroids

There are better descriptions somewhere in this thread. I'll see if I can find any and post links.
Try this one for starters: http://www.passporterboards.com/foru...ersal-ioa.html I think the info was in posts 2 and 17.
And these two might be helpful: http://www.passporterboards.com/foru...w-intense.html or http://www.passporterboards.com/foru...universal.html
If you click on "search this forum" and look for "forbidden journey intense" you get a pretty manageable list of threads to read through.

Exactly what I was thinking, Soarin on steroids lol. It is really fast paced and moves you all over the place...up and down, side to side...but it's great!

Motion sickness meds like Dramamine make me VERY SLEEPY. There is a less drowsy kind but I would try to take one before I used them on vacation to see how tired they make you. I can hardly keep my eyes open when I take them!

This happened to me too with Dramamine. That's why I like Bonine - it's non-drowsy and sometimes I just take half a pill. It's easy to split in half since it's scored down the middle.

My family of 4 rode this ride and had no motion sickness issues at all without taking any medication. My DH is the only one of us who has ever had trouble with motion sickness and even he was OK. I think you'll be Ok if you've never had trouble before, but if you decide to take something stick with either Bonine or the non drowsy Dramamine which is a 24 hour pill, so you could take it the night before if you wanted to.

While this ride is intense, I feel like it isn't the motion that's so intense it's what you are seeing. It could be very scary for some. It's an awesome ride and in my opinion not to be missed unless you have severe motion sickness problems!

And if you are a fan of ginger to settle your stomach, bring your own with you.
My niece tried to get gingerale for her mom and my husband, but there's no soda sold in WWoHP.

Have you been to universal before ? I found it a bit like the Spiderman ride without the 3-D. You sit in a row of 4 with your feet dangling. & the back of the seat comes up very high behind your back. It pitches and moves like a motion similator but you also travel through a building.

Not sure if you are only doing FJ but there are a large number of rides that I would think could cause motion sickness so something long lasting might be the way to go.
