As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Hi all,
We just changed our vacation dates to Sept 29-Oct 5. We're planning on attending one of the MNSSHP events. I know you have to buy seperate tickets for this event and can dress up in costumes & trick-or-treat. But any advice you have for attending during this time of year/event will be GREATLY welcomed! I've looked through the forums but can't find one that has just general advice!
Oh, it'll be me (31), DH (35) DD (5) and my DM (69)....
specifically: 1. do they still have photopass for the event? and can we simply add it to ours? Or does it have to be purchased seperate?
2. Are all the rides open? Or is it just the ones that would be open for EMH? Or is it an entirely different list?
3. Is the monorail going to be operating after 8pm since it's a party? I know they were changing it so that the monorails only operate 1 hour after "regular" closing time.
4. Is there an issue with the tickets selling out? or would we be able to snag 4 tickets only a couple weeks before we go?
5. Do we get lots more character meet/greets???
6. Do you really recommend a jacket for evening's cooler weather? Or is it still warm?
PassPorter's Free-Book to Walt Disney World It’s hard to believe anything is free at Walt Disney World; but there are actually a number of things you can get or do for little to no cost. This e-book documents over 200 free or cheap tips to do before you go and after you arrive. You could save a considerable amount of money following these tips. Perhaps more importantly; you can discover overlooked attractions and little-known details most people whiz by on their way to spend money. Click here to see free sample pages from the e-book! Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. A club pass includes access to all our other e-books; e-worksheets; super-size photos; and more! This e-book is also available for separate purchase in the PassPorter Online Store for just $5.95.
Hi! We've done the party twice, and are going a third time this October. Here is what I know concerning your questions:
1. They do have photopass, and I believe we just added it our existing photopass.
2. All the rides we wanted to ride were open; while I am not 100% sure I believe the entire Magic Kingdom is open.
3. Don't know since we stayed at WL and always took the ferry, but the ferry was always open which makes me think the monorail would be as well.
4. The dates you are going I don't think will sell out. As you get closer to Halloween they do sell out. I would get tickets as soon as possible just in case, but it is unlikely (at least in my experience) that it would sell out when you would be there.
5. You see the characters in costume, which is fun. Also there is more interaction; for example, some characters attend the dance parties and dance with you! I don't know if there is lots more, but they look different and the interaction is fantastic. You can also see rare characters out--we saw all seven dwarves one year.
6. It is still very warm. Bring a jacket just in case if you think you might get cold, but you most likely won't need it at the end of September.
We did the party last year. Yes, you can add your photopass pics from the party to your regular photopass. Also, there are some rides that will not be open during the party. I do not know if it is the regular EMH rides, but here is a link to last year's map, which shows what was open:
Here's my piece of advice. Don't do a park the day of the party. The first year we did MNSSHP we did park and the party and we didn't make it through the whole party (which was a shame). The second time we just did a pool day, had ADRs for Liberty Tree at 5:00 (you can get in MK w/ your party ticket around 4:00) and then we were well rested for the party that night and stayed for the whole thing.

We have done MNSSHP every year for the past 6, plus a few randomly scattered ones before that. It is my FAVORITE thing at WDW. I'll try to help on your questions:
1) Sorry!! We've never used Photopass so I don't know about this.
2)I don't recall any rides not being open for MNSSHP. Now, restaurants is a different story - there are quite a few restaurants that are not open or close early.
3)Have not heard re: the monorail. This might be something you have to wait until the first party happens and you hear back from someone who has experienced it, but I would THINK, since it is a ticketed event, that the monorail would continue till it ended.
4)I think you would be fine getting tix just a couple weeks in advance for your dates. We usually go in early Oct - either the first or second weekend - and we've never been at a party that was sold out at starting time. (We always get our tix in advance, but I always notice the line of people buying tix. One year my DNiece got sick during the afternoon and couldn't come to the party with us. Since it's non-refundable and we would have lost the money anyway, we gave her ticket to someone who was waiting in line to buy one.)
5)YES!!! There are many, many more characters out at MNSSHP! Some have HUGE wait lines - like the 7 dwarves, but many you will just stumble upon as you go around the park. We have found some great, less common characters at MNSSHP, like the Walrus from AIW.
6)Unless you are there during an incredible, unseasonable cold snap, you will be A-Ok without a jacket! And that's coming from me - someone who lives in South GA and is usually freezing if it's below 75. We've only had one year - last yr actually - where the weather was amazingly pleasant, but still not cool enough for jackets. The year before (2009) it was still 90 degrees for the majority of the party and extremely humid. It usually ranges from nice to warm to really warm during the MNSSHPs I've been too.

Great advice!!! We also skip the parks during our party day, and just tour around DTD or the resort pool and have a relaxing day pre-party. The party's only 5 hrs long, so you want to make sure you are ready to go for the whole time and have all the fun you can!

May I add; Don't miss the parade! It is a blast!
There are some dates that you can get a discount on tickets if you have a Disney Vise, AAA, or are a DVC member.
Be ready to bring home lots of candy! There are lots of "trick or treat" stations all over the park.
The weather is still pretty nice & we never got chilly. We went in mid October last year & had a blast! (We are old folks & still felt like kids)
Thank you all for the advice and answers so far!! However, we will be visiting a park on that day(morning). I believe AK has morning EMH (and it's our 2nd fave park!) so we'll be hitting that up, eat lunch in the park, then back to the hotel for an extra long break. We're getting parkhoppers so we're not worried about when we get to the park. And we'll have the time-change working for us (we're from Kansas) so about 10:30 or 11 our time isn't totally unbelievable for her to stay up. Her normal bedtime is 9pm anyway! (which would be 10pm in WDW). Figure we'll let her sleep in the next morning. But then again, 8am (central time) is sleeping in for her!!
Ok, I have another question or two --
*Does anyone know if you can get the military discount applied to the MNSSHP tickets? I called Shades of Green and they said we had to go directly through Disney... Haven't gotten up the patience to call Disney yet to ask... LOL
*That 30% discount on the photopass: Does that apply to the purchase of the entire CD? Or just prints off of it? We're too cheap to buy any from disney (which is why we're getting the CD!!). And what if we pre-buy the CD? Do we get a refund for the 30%? I know I'm getting particular there, but just want to know!
*Is it light enough at the party to use a camcorder? Mine has the light that I could turn on, but I always think it loses some of the magic. I'd really like to get some footage of our daughter dancing with the characters!!!
I read this on a discount info page:
"Deeply discounted tickets are available for those eligible for Disney's Armed Forces Salute Tickets (see here for eligibility rules) on select nights. Tickets are NOT available for purchase at Shades of Green or MWR/ITT offices. They must be purchased at Guest Relations or any ticketing window (including water parks or Downtown Disney)"
September 13, 16, 20, 23, 27 and 30
Adult $37.77 plus tax
Child Ages 3-9 $33.57 plus tax
I'm pretty sure that the information I read about the monorail closing 1 hr after regular park hours applies to party nights as well. Regular closing will be 7pm so the monorail will only run until 8pm. Maybe someone else can confirm this for you.
I love the NSSHP and we are doing it again this year in early sept. I went late Oct last year and it was still very warm. The 30% on photopass only applies to the prints you get from the night of the halloween party only. It does not cover anything on the cd or any other day of your trip. As far as characters, the dance parties were wonderful. I really like the one in frontierland with Woody, Jessie, and Bullseye. I was able to get Lady Tremain and the stepsisters from Cinderella, and also the old hag from Snow White, and also the 7 dwarves.Hope you have a blast I know I can't wait.

Last I heard no one knew. Since MHSSHP and Merry Christmas are "hard ticket" events, and there was nothing in Disney's announcement about such events, I thought it was still up in the air.
I'll be going to MNSSHP on the first night, I can always report back what I find
We went in 2008 in early October and the park was full of ponchos as it was raining very heavily! The first parade went ahead about 45mins late and the second a few minutes late. I only remember one set of Hallowishes fireworks but there may have been two. Even though we were soaked through in our costumes we still did a great number of rides. Unfortunately I never got a photo with all three of my kids with any character. There were meet and greets indoors and we waited about 90mins for my youngest to see Mickey in halloween costume!
I still recommend going and will be there on Oct 2 this year. Maybe we'll see you there!
I don't remember for the Halloween party but at the Christmas party the Photopass photographer gave us a separate card for those pictures and when you claim your pics you just add that card number to the list. Works just like if you had more than 1 regular Photopass card (which most folks do) you just add all of your card numbers to the form when you claim the pics!!
