As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). My mom has emphysema and really struggled walking in the parks during our visit in June (she refused an ecv) They might come along again next year if we go, but I think she realized she will have to get one this time. Is it best to get one at the parks or is it better to get one for the whole week from a local company? How hard are they to keep track of at the resort and parks? For example, where do you park them when going into a restaurant or at the pools? How do they work on rides? Can she park it outside is she feels able or does she have to ride it into the ride via the handicapped entrance? Do they ever get "taken" or "lost" at the parks? How are they on the monorail? Buses? I'm just trying to decide if it would be a hassle to have one all week if she might not need it everywhere. She can walk short distances ok, but struggled on the long hauls through the parks. Thanks for any advice/help.
Definitely rent from an off-site company. Do NOT rent from Disney. There are parking areas near the entrances to most rides / attractions / restaurants. ECVs can get on the monorails / buses, but the buses take a bit of time. Some ECV's can be taken apart and fit in the trunk of a car. I've never heard of a ECV being taken. You take the key with you when you park the vehicle. We used Scootarama. They even came to Epcot to do some work onm our scooter

I would rent from an outside company. I used Apple Scooters on my December trip and they were good.
Getting on/off the transportation is not hard at all. The CM's will help if needed. On the Monorail, they put a ramp for you to enter and exit.
As far as the rides, most queues are accessible for wheelchairs/ecv's. No problems with the ecv on rides. The cm's just tell you where to park and will let you know where to pick it up if it is in a different area than where you parked. Some attractions you need to transfer from the ecv to a wheelchair to go through the line. Those wheelchairs are provided at the attraction.... think Pooh etc.

My last trip I took my own ECV and kept it in the room with no problem I took it to Blizzard Beach, the restaurants (charged up while dining), the pool. Never had a problem bringing it where ever I went. I took it on the boat from Epcot to Beach Club Hotel.

When I don't bring my own I always rent for the length of my trip from Scootarama. Love them ! The park ECV's are big & clunky & the usually run out early. They also cost a lot more..
for the money reason alone, it's cheaper to rent off site. I believe it's $50 per day in the park (and you can't take it from the park). In comparison, I just rented and EVC for 9 full days for about $250-$275.

We just got home and we rented from Walker Mobility. We had a problem with the scooter one day and they came right to AK and replaced it so I can recoommend them as being good as well. All your other questions have been answered so I won't repeat them but using a scooter and keeping track of it really is a piece of cake at Disney, no matter where you go.
If you fear losing your scooter, (or forgetting where you parked it), try hanging a picture or sign on the front basket. This can help distinguish your scooter from the other hundreds at the parks
