As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I was planning a non-park day and was wondering about Disney's Boardwalk.
How much time does it take to walk this boardwalk end to end? We have dinner reservations for 6pm at Cat Cora's Kouzzina, and I was wondering how much time I should allow for exploring the boardwalk.

we own at Boardwalk and been there several times ,obviously. As the previous post mentioned at any given time after 6pm there are several acts going on which are a lot of fun. There are bycicles to rent Two,s, Quads etc which you can ride around the lake for fun. There are some carnival type games eg. Throwing a basket ball for prizes) my younger daughter's favourite since she plays for her school and a pretty good shooter. Anyway, other things, Ride the boat just for fun, drop in ESPN just for a look, Duelling pianos is lot of fun and if you don,t have kids there is a nice dancing place. My advice get there an hour before and plan to spend atleast untill 11pm if you don,t have kids. Don,t forget EPCOT fireworks at 9 pm.
It's really not all that big. 30 minutes maybe if there aren't any "acts" going on.
Oh boy - only 30 minutes? We love the Jersey shore (not the stupid, stupid show, but the actual beach!) and love walking the boardwalks.

We do have 2 kids (ages 5 and 8 at time of trip) and they would enjoy the carnival games.
Another question - can you see the EPCOT fireworks from the boardwalk or do you have to go into EPCOT to view them?

me and a couple of buddies from work did the boardwalk a few years back when we were there for a conference, and spent a good several hours or so wandering and watching the very entertaining acts. You can somewhat see the fireworks from the one end of the boardwalk, although the low ones are blocked by trees, but the higher ones no problems.
Really, you can spend as long, or not as long, as you'd like...people we worked with spent almost the entire evening at the boardwalk....and were definitely the worse for wear at the meetings the next morning Fun place for people of all ages, that's for sure!
Like others said, the Boardwalk is a place that really changes character between day and night. There are some cool shops at the Boardwalk, the atmosphere is lovely, and there are bike & boat rentals, but a daytime trip to the Boardwalk is 30 minutes or less. After 6 though, there's a lot more. As others mentioned, there are usually great live acts and carnival style games as well as the establishments. If you enjoy live entertainment, you can easily spend over an hour enjoying the shows.

You're not going to be able to see much from the Boardwalk proper. However, if you walk to the end of the boardwalk (past the ESPN Zone) and across the bridge, you're at the International Gateway to Epcot (right between France & England). It's not "great" viewing, but you can get a pretty darn nice view from over there.

Walking it from end to end takes not much time at all. If you allow time to browse the shops, check out the hotel lobby, I'd say 45-60 minutes would be more than plenty of time. I enjoy stopping at Seabreeze point as well (between the BW and BC) to get some photos.
I'd say 60-90 minutes, depending on what live events might be going on. You can't see much of Illuminations from the Boardwalk proper, but you can get a decent view from the bridge walking towards Beach Club
Fun place for people of all ages, that's for sure!

Thank you all for the advice, I was planning time at the boardwalk before and after dinner, but I think now, I will just plan to explore the boardwalk after dinner in order to enjoy the live entertainers.
