Question about "roughness of Rides" [at US/IOA] :) - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). Question about "roughness of Rides" [at US/IOA] :)
Okay, so I scheduled this trip back in April and then had to cancel because dh messed up our schedule (hence another post where I was excited to go and asking questions and then had a sad face) and now I re-scheduled the trip again with a bad back and found out yesterday that I am not allowed to ride any rides. I am really bummed on this and wanted to "cheat" a little, but not to the point that I was being foolish. My question is this...what are some of the "wimpy" adult rides offered? Will I be able to ride anything at HP? And I just read on another thread that there are shows there? Where do you find out the show types, times and information? I have a book on US and IOA written by a former "cast" member and he doesn't mention anything about shows! Rats!
Thanks in advance! We are going to go do the Mouse House for a few days after US and IOA I think so I know what to do and not to do there, but this new ride thing has me a bit wrangled that I wont' be able to ride anything on my first trip to the park!

Here are the things you should be able to do at Universal:
Shrek 4D -- they have some seats that don't move. Make sure you let a CM know.
Jaws-- I can't remember anything that would bother a back (check with the CM though)
Shows:

Horror and Makeup Show
Blues Brothers show
walkthrough Lucy Tribute
At IOA:
no rides -maybe the Merry Go Round?

I'm sure someone that's been there more recently than me may have some better input.
Thanks, for the tips on asking for a seat that doesn't move at Shrek 4D, HM... when you say they move are we talking minor movement or quite a bit? I am not that far gone yet! ha! I am just asking since it is a 4D ride and they are normally just shaking you left to right or tipping you like Soarin' does, if I remember right.
Wah! I can't believe this.
Not even the ride through the castle at HP? Gee whiz...I can't believe I have never been to this park and now I will never get to experience the full effect of it...blast my bad genetics! I mean, I would have probably never ridden the dragon one or the one that drops, can't remember which one that is...I thought I read in that book somewhere on US/IOA that most of the rides don't move more than 2 feet that it is just an illusion made by the motion of the car and the screen you watch. I am going off to sulk now.
I guess I have 2 weeks to get a more chipper outlook on this, right? I can at least be grouchy about it for one day. Grumble, growl, snarl, grrrrr.....

So sorry to hear about your back. I do think though that you'll still be able to enjoy Universal and IOA.
The FJ ride in HP is definately not one you'll be able to do with a bad back. It's a GREAT ride but you are going all different ways and even onto your back at one point.
You can take the castle tour and see the inside. It's really worth doing if you know anything about the Harry Potter books or movies.
At IOA there are probably a couple of rides in Seuss Landing that you can ride with no problem since that area is really geared towards younger children.
I think that you could also do the Terminator 2 3-D show at Universal Studios. We haven't done it in a while, but I don't remember it moving, or if it did, I think there were seats available that didn't move. Not absolutely sure about that one but you can probably ask the cast member at the entrance. You can also do Twister, just don't stand in the front row.
Maybe you can look online for some You Tube videos of some of the rides you are thinking about trying to see how jerky they really are.

I didn't seen Terminator still listed on their site. But, yes you should be able to do it (it's more of a show and I liked it). Don't try Cat in the Hat, its rough. And I haven't been since HP was added, so had no way to comment on it.
The rides in Seuss Landing are the CaroSuessel, the High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride (if you aren't afraid of heights - I don't remember it being rough, just high), and maybe One Fish Two Fish (it's like Dumbo, with water).
I think you should be able to do ET Adventure - it's like Peter Pan and I remember it being a smooth ride. Check with a CM to be sure.
Terminator 3D and Shrek both have seats that don't move and if you have back problems, definitely ask for them. One of the effects in Shrek is that you feel like you are riding a horse or carriage or something through rough terrain. It's very bumpy. I don't remember Terminator moving much but I think I remember that there's a bump at the end. Ask a CM.
For an extra charge you can see the Blue Man Group show. If you don't mind waiting in a long queue, the Ollivanders wand show is something you can do. It's a long wait for a short but cute show.
So sorry about your back! Definitely no HP rides. The FJ was pretty jerky, as well as the Dueling Dragons. But you could at least walk through the castle. I enjoyed that more than the actual ride! (But I'm a HP nerd ).
One more thing, if you are a HP fan, just going through the HP world is fun! The butter beer (frozen) is amazing, and the shops are crowded but cool. Visit the Three Broomsticks to get your Butter Beer and have fun looking around.
Even though I enjoy the rides at HP, I don't visit it for that. It's the experience of the place! I hope you are able to have some fun!
Well, the family came to the grand conclusion last night that they are willing to forgo the trip until the back is at least SOMEWHAT better. They came to it on their own, with no help from me, but based on what everyone on this thread suggested. I appreciate you guys more than words can say!
Went to the first PT session today and they gave me an absolutely NOT on any rides unless I want to opt for the surgery route on my back. Being a needle wimp, I think I will go with the family and skip the US and IOA altogether. Now, this is the 2nd time in 3 months that I have scheduled and had to cancel this trip. I think Walt Disney is up there somewhere pointing a finger at me saying, "Cheater!" Maybe that is my "karma" as to why I can't seem to get to go to this place? I am a total HP nut Poegirl, and was wanting to do HP more than the rest of the family (dear hubby has only seen the first movie and has NO IDEA what the entire thing is about) and so I was down that I wouldn't get to do anything. DH and DS decided to wait until the fall once the crowds died down (we were going to be there the opening weekend of the new HP movie, bad idea) and then see if my back is died down, too. HOPEFULLY, it will be. But the advice offered on here was what made the final decision for the family, so I appreciate everyone's advice to NOT ride and that most any of them would be rough/dicey to ride (except the kiddie rides and shows) so I so so so so very much appreciate all of you who contributed on here to give me a "leg" up on the ride information.
Thanks again to all of you who helped me on this thread andth anks for the well wishes on the back! I appreciate it. It really isn't tha tbad, I didn't think. NOt bad enough to not ride rides anyway! Apparently, SOMEONE else thinks so though. And since that is what I pay them good money for.......
