Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

11/28 - 12/2: How do I pack??

So I've checked all the 'typical' weather patterns, but I'm still stumped! Yes, it's been a while since I've been to WDW in Nov/Dec! Would I be safe packing capri pants and jeans and tees, with a jacket handy just in case? Or should I pack heavier things like sweatshirts?? I'm hopeful that it will be comfortable enough for capris and such during the day and a jacket in the evening, but maybe I'm wishful thinking?? I don't want to pack a lot b/c I have no intention of checking any luggage for our flights! So, anyone who has been during this time recently, could you let me know? The last time I was there in Nov was 1997! In the video, I'm in jeans and tees and tennies, but, well, that was 1997 and, well, I was also about 60 to 70 lbs heavier back then, so I don't think I can put too much into that one! LOL!! TIA!

Again, I would suggest checking out the historical weather for December for a better idea of what the weather has been like in recent years (use "Kissimmee, FL" for the city).

And other than that -- since weather is never predictable (don't they know we need to pack!? ) -- my best advice is: layers, layers, layers. . .which means a little bit of everything.

Florida weather, especially, is just so unpredictable and depending on your tolerance for heat/cold, being able to wear capris, a tank, and a say a hoodie that you can put away/tie around your waist, will be your best bet for trying to pack for Disney in December.

We always go with layers for that time of the year. We've had temperatures hit the low 80s and then days where it's not got above the low 40s. Usually, we bring the stuff we'd wear to fly out (e.g winter coat/sweatshirt/jeans etc.) and then go with T-shirts, vest tops, capri pants as well, so we can combine them as required on colder days.

The last time we went in late December, it was coats at night and jackets during the day. Definitely long pants or capris for the legs. You really have to bring layers with you and you'll want to bring your winter coat just in case it does dip down a lot at night, as it did with us (mittens too). It was gorgeous during the day in the sun, but not shorts and t-shirt weather really.

I just realized your trip was really the beginning of December, not the end. I have a completely different answer for that. My only first weekend in December trip was hot. I wore jeans on our first day and was so sweaty. Shorts and t shirt weather with a light jacket one night.

We were there from 12/2-6 a few uears ago, so very similar time frame. The first two days we were in light winter gear (coats, gloves, scarf) and then we had one day that was warm enough for the pool! Layers are definitely key. I wore a short sleeved shirt with a cardigan and a hoodie over it. Sometimes the day starts off chilly, warms up mid-day, then gets cold when the sun goes in.

It usually isn't too bad but that timeframe last year was cold. The actual temps were in the high 40's low 50's but the wind was horrible. We ended up at the outlets buying hats, gloves and scarves.

OH WOW!!! Thanks for all the great advice! I'll definitely bring my fuzzy lined jacket (almost a coat!) b/c I'll wear it when we fly out (we live in KS, so it will be chilly here!), and I'll pack warmer stuff to wear home. I can always break them out in between times if needed! Maybe an extra sweatshirt will be nice, too! Thanks again for all the advice!

We have been there around that time for the last 2 years....first year I wished for some shorts as we had record breaking heat (it got to 95 one day); So last year I brought some shorts as well as my winter stuff. I used no shorts and all the winter as we had record breaking cold! I actually saw grown men walking around with Mickey bathrobes over their clothes because they couldn't find anything else to wear to stay warm enough. Even my very warm all the time DH wished for gloves. I recommend a warm jacket that can be layered with a sweater underneath; as well as ear muffs and gloves. Those items are small, and if you don't need them you can leave them in your room. I had people coming up to me all day every day trying to buy my earmuffs! Just think versatility . We'll be there a week later than you and I will have all of the above....Good Luck!

What to wear at that time depends on what climate you are used to. We are from the north and take only shorts - t shirts and a light jacket. We usually go during Thanksgiving week and the weather is always pretty comfortable but it can get cool at night.

I totally forgot about the bathrobes. They were every where. One person must have gotten the idea and then a whole park load of people followed along.

Exactly! Being from Alaska, we are pretty used to cooler temps. We LOVE that time of year primarily because we don't melt into puddles because of the heat. Only once have we needed to buy anything there because we were cold. The temps that day were in the 50s, it was off and on rainy and the wind was blowing. It wasn't the temp so much as the wet and the wind chill that got to us. Even so, all we bought were some zip up hoodies (from heavy sweat shirt type material) and we were good.

I was there in 2010 about the same time frame. The weather was freaky. I was so glad I had layers. It was getting down to the 30's when the sun went down.

I only wore capri's and a t-shirt one day.
The rest of the time I'd start out in jeans/t-shirt/long sleeve shirt and hoodie. then in the middle of the day, I was down to jeans/t-shirt and long sleeve shirt.

Then at the end of the day I was back up to the full layers and added a fleece jacket on top of it. I also needed my fleece gloves and hat and one night at Epcot, I was wishing I hadn't left my long johns in the room because I would have loved to wear them.

I would bring a backpack with me and put the clothes in there. At the beginning of the day it was empty, middle of the day had lots of stuff in it and by the end of the evening it would be empty again.
