As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Hello all! We are headed back for our latest installment of Magic in August...last time we went in August it was an exceptionally cool year & I doubt we will have the same weather...I am looking on amazon for some of those cooling bandanas, other products & want to get them for me & my girls.
Anybody care to give me a good or bad experience/opinion on any of these products so I may buy wisely?
TIA
Lesley & girls

I bought a bandana from a company called Sahalie that had cooling beads in it. When you wet the bandana and put it around your neck, you can feel the difference. I really loved it. I was able to continue to stop by water fountains throughout the world to wet it over and over again. I thought it made a difference. It had beads in the center and on the ends so that when wet, it cooled the back of your neck and the area over your heart. Your shirt collar does get wet, but when it's 200 degrees outside, who cares? Yes, I would recommend it.
I've used those too! When dry, they feel like they're empty with little pellets in them. But once soaked, they swell up and keep your neck cool and moist.
They do get a little smelly after a few days of hot weather. I washed them with shampoo a couple of times during our trip and let them dry, hanging from the string in the shower.

Do you recall where you purchased the Sahalie product? I tried to find it on amazon with no luck...
Dad of 2 princessess: I never would have thought of anything like this, but my 13 yr old is a bit of a wilting flower to say the least & I think it will help tremendously is I have something for her! and I am just going to get one for all of us because if they work why not?
Thanks for the input everyone!

In 2009 they were experiencing above normal temps in September. It was in the 90s most days and I was wilting! Then I remembered I'd packed this neck chiller scarf that I bought at a craft show. Wow! What a difference! I was able to spend the whole day at Epcot without a break to go back to the resort.
I activated it before we left the resort since it takes about 5 or 10 minutes to absorb the water. Then I just kept it in a ziploc bag in my backpack. When the temps started rising, I got the neck chiller out. At one point I asked a vendor if I could take some ice from her cart and I put the neck chiller back in the bag with the ice for a few minutes.
It really made the heat tolerable. We ended up getting a second one before our next trip, but really didn't need it this past year. However I'm going with my two DDs in August so I plan on taking both neck chillers. I'm also in the process of looking for a different product I heard about made by Frogg Toggs. It's called a Chilly Pad. I see that Dick's Sporting Goods carries them. It looks like a towel that you just wet and wring out, then put around your neck. Doesn't puff up or expand like the neck chillers. So, we're going to try that too.
We have several of the chilly "scarves" purchased from different sources. My favorite was purchased from Avon, from their Planet Spa line.
The item I use most often is pretty simple: Wet a washcloth, put it in a ziploc bag, and put it in the freezer overnight. It will stay cool in a backpack or pocket for several hours and can be "recharged" easily by dipping it in the ice water in those bins that hold the misty fans they sell all over WDW.

I just bought 3 of the Frogg Toggs Chilly Pads at Dick's, on the advice of my dear sis-in-law, as we're heading out soon for our first summer visit. I haven't tried them out in hot weather yet, since it's just been mostly wet here in the Midwest....we've been spared the tornadoes, so far, though, fortunately.

I just bought one today too. It seems so big to wear around your neck though.
It's more square than rectangle. I think I may cut it in two.
I found a few links for the scarves, but I couldn't find them on the Sahalie site, maybe they don't carry them anymore? In any case, I found them at www.healthandbodystore.com/coolingaids and at www.polarbreezebandanas.comI really like mine. I hope they work for you too!
I also saw something neat in our local Wallgreens. It's a cooling pad that does not require batteries or water. You just place it on or under you and it's cool to the touch. They were around 19.00. I was thinking about buying one and placing it in DD's stroller to keep her cool.
We haven't used it yet but we're going to buy ourselves each a 'Cobber' from Tilley Endurables. It's one of the cooling neck scarves. It's made in Australia for use in the outback. You soak it in cold water for 30 minutes and it will stay cold for up to 3 days. Here's a link to it on the Tilley website.
We've never had need of it before because we've always gone at a time of year when it's never been needed. We'll be using it this time because we'll be heading down in August.
We went in August 2009 and some of the days were miserable as it was so hot! We did purchase a spray bottle that had a little fan on it (I think we got it at Walmart). It was a lifesaver. DH and I both had one. Drink lots of water too! That was one thing that I didn't do at AK and really regretted it. AK is the hottest park and can be really miserable without adequate water supply.
We found ours at our local Walmart in the camping section. Like everyone else's, it's the one that swells up with the water. Lenny would put it in the ice bucket with ice before we left in the am and he'd rewet it at water fountains, in the bathrooms, with ice from the vendors that had the ice carts with water bottles or mister fans - basically anywhere he could. He didn't care if his collar got wet or not. For Abby, who's a little more discriminating with her tastes (well it sounds better than saying she gets cranky when her clothes get the tinsiest bit wet ), we just take a face cloth from the room every morning, wet it down wherever (see above) and then ring it out really well and then place it on her neck. While it's not sopping wet, it's still cool enough that it does help her.
