As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I searched the extended forecast (I know it's not totally accurate) and it looks like there could be a rainy day or 2 while we're there. Does anyone had any suggestions for the best park for rainy days?? I didn't know if one is less crowded than any other in the rain. My kids are 7 & 9 so we want to keep them happy!! I'm planning on throwing some ponchos in our backpack.
Just an idea...DisneyQuest at DTD. It's a blast all indoors. After go shop to shop. My plan is to do a weather check when we go and plan DTD for the day it might rain.

Epcot's rides are mainly all indoors. MK has a lot of outdoor rides, which will keep going unless it's lightning. That might be your best bet if you don't mind getting wet!
We are fair weather visitors. If its raining, especially an all day rain, we avoid the parks. I don't care to be wet and miserable. It takes the fun out of it. On rainy days we either hang around our resort, visit other resorts or maybe some shopping at DTD.
We were there in March this year and it rained every day we were there. One day there was a tornado reported above epcot (and of course we were there). It passed quickly which was great! We didn't like Animal Kingdom in the rain. At Hollywood Studios, went down to the Animation Studios over there by Playhouse Junior and we went in to get out of the rain. We were pleasantly surprised. There were so many characters out for pictures and autographs...it was really nice. I'm sure they added extras to make the lines go faster. It was a great distraction from the rain. We saw Mickey and Minnie, she had on a new dress; daisy, donald, goofy (who proposed on his knee to my 16 year old daughter) and pluto. Then we saw Handy Manny. Then we saw characters from Toy story 3 like Lotso who really does smell like a strawberry. hehe. We saw others too but I don't remember anymore. When we finally left the area the sun had come out and we were on our way.
The resorts can be fun for a while but you are in Walt Disney World for such a short time, don't let the rain hold you back. Get your ponchos and go! Have fun and bring extra shoes in case they don't dry over night. I forgot extra shoes but we had a vent above the TV cabinet at AKL - Jambo house - and every night we put our shoes up there and they were dry by morning.
We've had some good laughs running through the rain in the parks. I'm smiling thinking about it.
We typically wear sneakers in the parks, but we switch to flip flops for pouring rain. Wet sneakers don't feel good. However, we did have a stroller so we didn't have to carry our sneakers around with us.
I've never done this, but maybe a water park would be fun on a rainy day.
I think the parks are great fun in the rain! As long as you have ponchos and don't mind getting a little wet, you'll probably find crowds a little lighter and less wait times for rides. Also, if you had an ADR that you wanted, but could not get, try a walk up on a rainy day. CMs have told me that they usually have a lot of no shows on rainy days, even for those hard to get restaurants!
I like DHS in the rain. The crowds are low and many of the attractions are indoors: Little Mermaid, Animation Academy, Muppets, Great Movie Ride, Indiana Jones, Toy Story Mania, Star Tours. All you need is a poncho and some shoes that work when wet. I always wear my backpack or sling bag under my poncho to keep it drier, and add a small towel from the hotel to my bag.
It rained a lot when we were there last May/June. Typhoon Lagoon cleared out and we had almost no waits the rest of the day. Blizzard Beach, everyone left, including us because it was a freezing cold rain. AK it didn't rain until we time for EMH. We watched Lion King and left. The kids were bummed because they wanted to ride Everest at night. DHS and Epcot it only drizzled. MK it poured off and on. The park cleared out and we put our ponchos on. The only thing that I did not like was the steam coming off of the concrete after the rain.
No matter what park you are in, the crowds should thin out. Pack ponchos and go with it.

We had hours and hours of torrential downpours every day when we were there in May 2009. We still had a great time at each of the parks. I think Epcot was our favorite park in the rain because it seems to have the most places to go to get out of the rain...but MK and DHS were fine, too. AK was our least favorite, but still enjoyable.
My advice is that if you see you're going to have a lot of rain, get good ponchos. We used the cheapy $1 ones the first day but they tear so easily and just cling to your skin. It was not very comfortable. The next morning we bought 7 Disney ponchos -- best $55 we spent that trip. They were much more comfortable and not clingy like the cheapy ones. And if they tear, you can get them replaced for free (some people have reported needing to show a receipt for replacement but we never had to on the 3 occasions we replaced one or more of them). I still like the cheapy ponchos for quick rain showers or water rides, but for all-day rain I'll use a Mickey poncho.
Also, as PP mentioned, be sure that everyone has at least 2 pair of shoes. That has always been a rule for our family when we travel -- no one leaves home without at least 2 pair of good walking shoes. I have hip, knee, and back problems so I can't tolerate walking around in flip flops or sandals at DW so I wore sneakers every day even in the rain. Every evening I stuffed dry washcloths or hand towels in each one and they'd be completely dry inside and out later the next day -- but I always had a dry pair to put on.
Don't let the rain put a damper on your plans. You can still have a great time at Disney even in the rain.
We will trek through the rain. It's fun. Okay, the ride back to the resort won't be fun because they tend to blast the AC on the bus. If you hate to get wet I would avoid DTD unless you are watching a movie, eating, or at Disney Quest as suggested. Reason being is that DTD has zero cover. Last time we were there in June the rain came down hard and it was pointless to hide from it at DTD. We also got poured on at MK and it's quite a ways to the bus terminals with no coverage.
