As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

For the first time in our many Disney vacations I've received a photopass card in advance, in the mail, with a letter that asks us to pre-register the card online prior to our vacation and bring it with us to give to the photographers in the parks. It mentions that there will be a special offer (or something of that nature) if we do so. Does anyone know why they are doing this or what the offer will be if I do it?

We register the photopass card we get in the mail for a couple of reasons. . . one being that if it gets lost, we have it already registered, and we did get some special offers via e-mai.
We still pre-order the photopass CD for the special rate of $99 before we head to the World. It's also kind of neat to have a Photopass card already in hand when the cameras start to capture your memories. And, it's personalized!

Have a great trip!
Sooooooooo, if you pre-purchase a photopass cd you will get a personalized photopass card in the mail? (We have never done this before, sorry if the question seems silly.)

No, the card you get in the mail to pre-register has nothing to do with pre-purchasing the CD. Not sure, but I think they are just sent to people who have booked a package.
We got one before our last trip and I considered it, but the card they sent was so flimsy. It was just cardboard. We have it in and out so often I wanted to make sure it would hold up to the wear and tear, so we waited until we got our first picture and got one of the plastic ones the photographers hand out.
There is normally a savings if you purchase the CD before your vacation, the $99 is about the cheapest you'll find it and if you are doing a lot of photo pass it makes it a lot more affordable than buying the individual prints. Individually they are outrageous!

No. They have been sending the pre-arrival Photopass card if you (or your TA) book your package through Disney Travel. I got one with our pre-arrival mail before our 2009 trip. I was emailed a couple of coupons during and just after our trip.

When we pre-ordered the photopass cd we were able to upload a picture that they would put on a photopass card and send to us. Much more fun to use the photopass card with our family picture (even if it was not a disney picture that time...)

We did that too in January of last year. I liked it as a souvenier plus it was unique so I always knew we were getting our correct card back. From what I hear, they have disontinued this though.

If you preregister the card, then your 30 day picture time starts as soon as the 1st pitcure is taken and uploaded by Disney.
I prefer to wait until I get home to register my card(s) so I have a full 30 days to play with the pictures and borders. If I pre-registered the card then I lose 7-10 days while I am still on vacation before I start working with those early pictures. I would probably need to purchase an extension and that would take away part of any savings offer they email me since it would cost extra.

Good Point. Thanks for sharing!
3 years ago we got the photopass card on the wristband from BB, and we used that for the balance of the trip. I loved it because I didn't have to keep fishing it out of my bag everytime we saw a photopass photographer.
1. Do they still have those?
2. Can you get them anyplace other than the waterpark?
I recieved the card before we left, pre registered and went on vakay Feb 5th - 12th. Our pics didn't expire until March 16th so the clock didn't start ticking until we actually got onto the PhotoPass website.
Basically, it's just for security in case you lose it. We also recieved 4 more cards! upon check in because if you are celebrating (we had 4 birthday parties, Disney gives you a card with an autographed pic of Mickey and a photopass card. With 8 ppl in our party all going in different directions, the extra cards helped!

Great point that I had not considered. If I knew the special offers were great, I might take the chance, but if it's something lame-ish, than I'd rather have my full 30 days after vacation. Sometimes coming home from a trip it's a couple of weeks before I can get to sit down and play on the computer.
As for the wristband, what a great idea -too bad they don't use it in the parks. It would be so much easier than fishing out my card every time!

We received a PhotoPass card recently too - we booked our trip through DVC as we're members. I "think" they sent us one of these a few trips ago but not 100% sure. We don't usually get a lot of PhotoPass pics taken so I never pre-order the CD. However, this year we're doing the Wild Africa Trek and I believe we're supposed to receive a CD of those photos that we can connect with any other PhotoPass pics we have taken on this trip. We'll see how this works. And as a side note, I miss those little bracelet PhotoPass card holders too - they were handy!

They told me when I called for a nother ressie to use the same photopass card for the rest of my trip that they give you for Wild Africa, because they do give you a photopass CD with Wild Africa and they can link them if you use the same card the whole trip. (This I find out after I've pre-paid my photopass CD, oh well!)
