Grumpy, the ODD boys & I take on the World ... PTR (Sept 18-28) - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Grumpy, the ODD boys & I take on the World ... PTR (Sept 18-28)
Well, I have decided to join in the fun of writing a PTR (I really do hope it is fun and that I don't lose my mind ... although according to my DH I lost that a very long time ago)
So I guess I will start off with who is in my 'party'! There are five of us: ME ... I'm Suna - only female in the house and in need of a vacation!! DH Ron ... (aka - Grumpy) he is not really my DH - but we have been together for 10 years and I consider him my DH DS Ollie ... the 'O' of my ODD boys. Ollie is 15 (well he turns 15 on March 20) He is a typical teenager .... need I say more?!? He is the only one of us that has gone to Disney before - he went with his Dad 4 years ago. DS Denver ... a 'D', is my quite, shy, smart, picky boy - he is a mini Ron. He will be 6 on May 1st. DS Dierk ... my other 'D' is wild, funny, smart and will try anything - he is more me. He turns 4 on August 8th.
I have been planning our trip for 2 years now. I have spreadsheets, books with post-its, a file, maps, notes ... you name it - I think I've got it. Ron says I have lost my mind and am in need of some serious 'help'. I wonder if Disney has a special resort that I could check into for 3 months to help me with my addiction?!?
Ron ... let's talk about my Ron for a minute. Ron is a truck driver who leaves me every Monday morning before the boys are up and comes home to me Friday nights in time for pizza night with the family. (That's right I am a part-time single mum ... hence the need for a vacation - see really, it is a need and not a want ... LOL) Back to Ron - he is wonderful - myself and the boys mean the world to him .... that is the only reason why he (Grumpy) is going 'along' with this trip. If it were up to him he would never go to "a place where grown people are dressed in costumes trying to make people happy" He is super Grumpy ... but we love him!
Well, that's it for now .... hope I am doing this whole PTR thing right.
Next up ... my plans (with no help, of course, from Ron)

I wonder if Disney has a special resort that I could check into for 3 months to help me with my addiction?!?
That would be AWESOME! Of course it probably wouldn't do any good because it would be the same level of service you get at WDW so you'd never want to leave!
Think I will change my colour for my posts ... keep me better organized!
OK ... so this past summer we purchased a new truck - a Silver Dodge RAM Hemi Quad Cab fully loaded so that we have enough room for our family to drive to the world. A bit of a crazy buy, but oh well - we are country people and we knew a van wasn't for us. So now we are ready to make the 22 hour drive from just north of the border to Florida. We will be taking turns driving, hoping to leave at 6:00 pm on Friday September 18 and drive until Saturday at about the same time when we will stop for the night. Then it's on to Disney in the morning! (Of course, if the price of gas keeps rising, we might be taking turns pushing and not driving)
So that is the start of our plans ... I still have to figure out Toll Roads - I figure there must be some somewhere.
We will be staying at POP in two connecting room (I was booked at ASMu, but I changed my mind - POP seems closer to everything). POP looks like a 'fun' resort and I think my younger boys would really like it. So we will be staying here for 10 sleeps : snore: (yep 10!!) I still have to decide on when/if we will use the truck while staying there or if we will be relying on Disney Transportation ... either way, it's all good!
Here are my plans (so far ... might change) I am super excited to make my ADR's next Tuesday - It really does take some planning to get things how you like them, but man is it fun!!
SUN 18th ~ QS (lunch) Hoop-Dee-Doo Dinner (5:00)
AM - figure we will check out the resort, maybe swim, play mini golf or head to a water park
PM - Head to MK for EMH and watch MSEP & WISHES
MON 19th ~ QS (Breakfast) QS (Dinner)
AM - Blizzard Beach Water Park
PM - EP - watch Illuminations
PassPorter's Free-Book to Walt Disney World It’s hard to believe anything is free at Walt Disney World; but there are actually a number of things you can get or do for little to no cost. This e-book documents over 200 free or cheap tips to do before you go and after you arrive. You could save a considerable amount of money following these tips. Perhaps more importantly; you can discover overlooked attractions and little-known details most people whiz by on their way to spend money. Click here to see free sample pages from the e-book! Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. A club pass includes access to all our other e-books; e-worksheets; super-size photos; and more! This e-book is also available for separate purchase in the PassPorter Online Store for just $5.95.
I am seriously getting so excited - I just realized only 2 days until I can make my ADR's. Cross your fingers for me that I get what I want.
So today is DH Ron's birthday - I still have to make him a card (I am a scrappy person) I was thinking a Mickey card might be cool, but then realized I might be divorced soon after.
Today is March 18 ... so really I have 6 months to go!!! Awesome .... yet terrifying. I have sooooo much to do: shirts to make, Photo Pass Card to preorder, Ron and D&D need passports, order MNSSHP tickets when available, make mousekeeping envelopes, make autograph books, make tip envelopes, .... what else?!? I know I will forget something.
I am also thinking on the way home to stop at a nice beach and hotel ... any recommendations?
I am hoping to save enough Loonie and Toonies (for all you non-Canadians that $1 & $2 coins) before we go to use as spending money. Here is what I am saving them in
I hope that you and your family have a magical time at the world
