Anyone else not doing anything for New Years Eve? - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Am I the only strange one out there that doesn't do anything for New Years Eve? We live out in the country, have smaller kids and I don't want to be driving the roads back and forth to town when alot of people are out drinking. So, we stay at home.
Lately, I feel as though I am boring...things are boring....and I am in a terrible rut that I would like to change but unable to at this time. Oh well...........

We (DH, DMom and I) usually play a little SceneIt or Trivial Pursuit, have a glass of sparkling wine and celebrate about 10 then crash. We are not late night people, plus DH has to work all day on the 31st so he's gonna be in no mood to be up nor go any where. And I don't like being around drunk people and the thought of being on the roads with them is even scarier. I'd rather kick it at home Does that make me boring? Probably, but I'm happy, lol!

Holidays rotate with dd every year. I'm just happy to start the new year off with her. She's 2, so we don't have anything special planned. Most likely an early night for us!
We hosted a couple of pretty good NYE parties in the past. A few good friends, food, games, champagne, and confetti-throwing at midnight. One year, we used this metallic confetti that stuck to everything. We were still digging it out of the sofa in June.
This year, we're doing the same thing as last year - getting a pizza and wings, and staying home with the dogs. DH will fall asleep around 9, I'll wake him up at 11:55, we'll drink a glass of champagne and go to bed. We'll have the rest of the champagne in Mimosas for breakfast.
Could we be more boring?

We usually stay home-who wants to be out on the road with a bunch of drunks. We try to stay up and see the ball drop in NYC. We don't always make it though. Last year we had the canned silly string and went out side and yelled happy new year while spraying the silly string and then went to bed.
DH's b-day is NY Eve. We rarely do much, since we found out early in our marriage that going out for his b-day was both difficult and expensive due to all of the people out celebrating NY Eve. Since my b-day is on the 27th, we usually celebrate on the 29th. DH had to work this evening, so we did nothing.
This year, DD Lauren has a sleepover at the karate dojo, and DD Kathryn has been invited to a party at my sister's (we've also been invited, just don't know if we'll go).
If we're home with no kids, we'll drink some champagne and then head to bed. If we have the kids here, we'll drink some champagne, play some games with the kids, and then go to bed (after banging pots outside!)

We stay home on NYE. I don't want to be on the road. We will have dinner, I am thinking of going out for Chinese food and then back home. Watch the ball drop and go to bed.... oh so boring.
Years ago we used to get together with friends and have a party, rotating between houses each year, but now we keep it close in the family. We will most likely go out to do dinner with my grandparents and then, just my parents and sister and I go catch a movie. I think this year we're gonna see Tangled.

Living out a childhood dream during my summer 2015 trip to WDW. Is it time to go back yet?

We have a 9 year old and a 2 year old and no babysitter, so the plan is, pretty much, to just munch on snacky type foods, play some games then we'll toast with some sparkling apple cider before the kids go to bed at 9:00pm.
. . . then DH and I will attempt to stay up until midnight, which we will both undoubtedly fail at.
We're homeschoolers, so we're also night owls. My 8 year old's bedtime is midnight every night, so he'll get to stay up an extra ten minutes on Friday night, have some sparkling apple cider, and see the ball drop. We don't go out partying anymore either. It just doesn't hold any appeal for me now. I'd rather spend time with my family, give my husband and my son a big, smacking kiss at midnight, and curl up on the couch for a snuggle and a movie with my husband after midnight to ring in the new year.
