Passporter Meet in Chicago in April? Anyone interested? - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Passporter Meet in Chicago in April? Anyone interested?
Hi Fellow Passporters. Sorry I haven't been on much lately. My DS Skyler & I will be visiting Family in Chicago from April 15-25th and wanted to know if anyone might be interested in a Passporter Meet. Any suggestions on where to have one? We'll be staying in Des Plaines if that helps at all. Skyler is 3 years old so any restaurant or location that is Child Friendly would be my preference, but other than that we are open to anything really. I'll be more than happy to call and make a group reservation at a restaurant or wherever. Please let me know if you're interested. Thank you all and hope to be able to meet fellow Passporters in Chicago.

Also if any of the suggested dates don't work for anyone, but any of the other dates I'm there will work, please let me know, so I can balance scheduling visiting family with a PPer Meet. Thanks everyone.

Sorry I'm behind on posting on here again. So far the 16th works for Jodi (Lazanya) and Minemoz1 and meeting at Woodfield Mall (Rainforest Cafe). Is there any time that works better for either of you, or a preferred time?
Pammers, it would be so nice to meet you too. Are you able to meet up during the week if you have a conflict with the Sox playing at home? I'm not sure if we're going to see the Cubbies when we're there or not. So far we only really have set plans for a PPer Meet on the 16th, and I have plans the 17th, 22nd, and Easter Sunday. Other than that I have a lot of flexibility in my schedule when we're there. Hope we get to meet you too when we're there.

Michele, Lunch is what we're aiming for! Is there a specific time that works for you? Is Noonish or 1:00ish better? I don't know if I can make a reservation there or not. I'll call this week and find out if they accept reservations (hopefully not a long wait if they don't accept reservations). I'll PM you my phone number in a little while.
Also Jodi and Michele, do either of you do pin trading? Please let me know if you do? I don't have a Disney Lanyard, but do have some pins that I bought on our trip which we would love to trade (this will be a first Pin Trade for us). That way I can remember to pack my pins?
Also would would either of you be interested in doing a fun Disney Item Swap? I'm hoping we can make our PassPorter Meet as fun as possible for all of us. I'll try to bring some pictures of our last Disney trip with me (sadly Photobucket isn't cooperating with me to load them into my TR) and my Scrapbook is big and bulky.
I will make sure I bring at least one Disney character shirt for Skyler & I to each wear, but probably the best way to spot us is our bright lime green stroller. He'll more than likely wear something Toy Story and I'll try to remember to pack my Mickey Mouse Shirt or one of my Tinkerbell Shirts. I'm not going to have my computer with me when I'm there to come on the boards, but I can receive e-mails on my phone (I'll PM you all my e-mail address).
I'm getting so excited for our Passporter Meet! We're going to have so much fun meeting everyone.
For Rainforest, you need to leave your name at the podium. If you are a "member," you get preferred seating, I think. I would plan either before 12 or later around 1:30. I can get there early if there is a wait. I'm only 10 minutes from Woodfield.
I don't pin trade, but will bring some pins I have left over and see if you are interested in them. The item swap sounds like fun!

We are members of the Safari Club (I think that's what it's called) where we can get a discount on dining or shopping at Rain Forest Cafe and I believe preferred seating or something like that so if you need me to make the lunch ressies, let me know. DH has the card on him and he's at work, so I'll have to check it out later tonight when he gets home.
We don't pin trade. We haven't gotten into pin collecting yet. LOL! But maybe a swap if I have time. Not sure as I have been incredibly busy with helping my dad move from out of state to here in Illinois.
Not a big deal at all on the Pin Trading. I wasn't sure who was into it or not, and believe it or not I haven't gotten into it myself (we mainly brought them back as a little something for family on our trip since I had so much difficulty finding what I wanted for them).
Jodi, thank you for letting me know that you are members at Rainforest Cafe. It's been too long since I've been to one since actually we don't have one close to us in Virginia. I'll call tomorrow and find out about Reservations or Priority Seating.
It's not a big deal on a Disney item swap either. I completely understand being busy, as I've been super busy getting Skyler into school, which he's starting before we're on our trip. Jodi, I completely understand you being really busy helping your dad move to Illinois, so really, we can skip the swap. In any case, it will be a delight for us to meet everyone, and it will add an extra special element to our trip with a Passporter Meet.
I just got off the phone with Rainforest Cafe and they do accept Reservations. They do ask that we're all there 10 minutes before our reservation time and no later than 10 minutes after our reservation time. I will call them back after we have come up with a time that works best for us all and will post the time on here. I have also discovered I am able to jump on the PPer Boards on my phone, so if anyone does post on here about our Meet, I'll still be able to view it without my computer.
