As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

The thread about "scheduled trick or treating" made me question another "tradition" that shook me last year.
I grew up with Santa leaving unwrapped and unpackaged (ready for play) toys under the Christams Tree. When DH and I had kids, Santa left toys the same way. It was never a discussion--he did the same for DH's family (originally from TX and Arkansas).
Last year, a dear friend and I were talking about Santa, and she mentioned how long it must take for Santa to wrap all those gifts he leaves. I was dumbfounded. She gew up a few towns from me, her DH grew up about 45 minutes south of both of us. Both she and her DH grew up with Santa leaving wrapped gifts.
I started noticing holiday commercials--sure enough, some of the Santa gifts are wrapped, some are not. In Holiday cartoons--sometimes Santa brings wrapped boxes out of his bag and other times the toys are presented ready for play under the tree.
I am curious about these differences, and how/why Santa chooses different presentations. Does it matter by family? Faith? region? ethnicity? Is is something that Santa could choose to change after years years of doing it one way for the family?
I imagine that the time he spends wrapping could be dwarfed by the time he spends unpackaging, setting up and disposing of the evidence. Also, opened toys often look more skimpy than wrapped ones...

Funny you should bring this up. DH and I just got married last year and celebrated our first Christmas as a combined family. He looked at me like I was a freak when I said something about wrapping. Our Santa wrapped....theirs did not. To offset the hiding of the santa wrap I always had the kids leave the wrapping paper for Santa under the tree for him to use. This way if remnants were seen around the house it was ok. Of course my explanation to the kids was Santa can't possibly carry wrapping paper too!! He has so much already!!!
Our biggest difference was stockings. We did stockings!! Every year, without question! Some years I looked fwd to that more than the gifts! There were always a few small gifts and candy ect. Heck my mom made me a stocking even as an adult! It was just a huge tradition....my g'ma and my mom even made us homemade crocheted stockings with our names on them. I am willing to give on some traditions but I have to have my stockings!! And probably will until I am making them for grandkids!
We ask Santa to wrap our gifts It's just the way it's always been done for our family. I can see instances where things don't get wrapped though. Maybe they are big, bulky, or just strangely shaped.
The gifts under the tree are wrapped. The gifts from Santa are left by the fireplace and are not wrapped. Stockings are filled with unwrapped small gifts.
Santa always wrapped gifts for me, and he seems to still do the same thing here with our kids. Although, when I was little he mysteriously had the same paper as my parents..... Now, he just uses bright shiny red paper. We also leave out, by his cookies so he's sure not to forget, tiny little knit stockings with each of the kids name sewn on them so he sets them on top of the correct gift.
I think my DH always had wrapped gifts too, but this is really "my" area, not his!

Santa always left my toys in front of the tree, unwrapped, and ready to play with immediately.
I suppose as a wise old soul, he knows how different families prefer it. I've never seen any other rhyme or reason as to why he wraps for some and not others.

Unless santa brings you something big like a bike, everything is wrapped including the stocking stuff. In our house the fun is in the unwrapping of the gifts. We shake them and see if you can hear anything before they are opened.
Santa did both when I was a kid. Funny how he rapped the socks but not the games that he left to keep us occupied while our parents slept in. "snicker"

Santa never wrapped gifts for DH or myself, and didn't wrap our oldest DS's gifts either until our second son was born. I like the wrapped gifts better as do the boys. They each take a turn opening gifts which prolongs the fun & excitement! Over the past few years, DS(22) has missed a few Christmas mornings due to work, but DS (15) still prefers wrapped gifts.
Santa always wrapped our gifts. Santa had special wrapping paper that was different from the gifts from my parents. That's how we knew what presents were from Santa.
Santa always left unwrapped gifts for me when I was growing up. Santa continued this tradition with my DD when she was little. Amazingly, Santa usually brought the gifts that were large, awkward, and would have been difficult to wrap! There was a snafu one year when Santa brought a faulty Easy Bake oven. DD was fretting over what we would do. I had to assure her that Target would take back a gift on Santa's behalf, since he was now back in the North Pole!
Luke and I both grew up with Santa's gifts unwrapped, spread out in front of the tree, and ready for us to play with. We began the same way with Stefanie, but then she felt cheated that some of hers were not wrapped. Now that she is older, she still gets her stocking and one or two unwrapped gifts from Santa. But truthfully, I find wrapping to be a waste of time and resources and an additional burden on the landfill, so for several years now we have been using over and over pretty forest green boxes with red ribbon. I store these away in the garage and we have very little to put out with the trash the day after Christmas. One of my little ways to go green.
