As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Hi I will be gone on vacation for 15-16 days and I am working on packing today since it is my only day off work before leaving for vacation next friday. I feel like it is taking me FOREVER to get packed. Just wondering how long does it usually take some of ya'll to pack and how many bags do you usually pack? I feel like I am really overpacking, it will just be DBF and myself and I have got 2 big suitcases just for shoes/clothes, a small carry on size bag for Dbf's toiletries and a smally carry on size for my makeup/accessories. Then I was planning on taking a small suitcase for souveniers we purchased, and I have a small suitcase for our bathing attire/halloween costumes....LOL I am only half way done and I have been working on this since 2:30 EST.
On our regular trips to WDW, we usually stay 8 nights and there are 2 adults and 2 kids. We bring 2 suitcases. I only pack enough clothes for 4-5 days and then do laundry while the kids are swimming 1/2 way thru. We go every year so I am pretty good at packing now. I usually pack the night before out trip and it takes me about 1/2 hour. It seems like every year we take less and less plus we go so often that we dont really buy alot of stuff there, the girls usually get a stuffed animal or something small that they carry. Isn't there a saying thats says pack what you think you need and then take 1/2 of it out cuz you wont need it LOL. Good Luck with your packing.
wow i wish my packing only took 1/2 hour! I havent been on a vacation this long ever, so I am kinda overthinking things I think. I havent been to Disney since 2006 and I have no idea what type of clothes to pack, like long/short sleeves, or jeans/shorts?
I have 6 and a half weeks before we go...and I have already started packing...I will be finished 48 hours before we leave. I pack for me and both kids (ages 9 and 10) while hubby packs for himself. He will start approximately 30 minutes before we load the car! LOL
To me, packing is part of the fun! I start making my packing lists before I even make the reservations! They are revised at least a dozen times before I actually start the physical packing.
Since we drive, we don't have to worry about taking too many bags, so each person has their own suitcase, plus we have one that will hold everyone's toiletries, and another that will hold shoes!
I also have a small bag with a change of clothes for everyone up front with me...I can't tell you how invaluable that was the year hubby spilled a large cup of coffee only 2 hours into our 8 hour trip!
I usually start 8 weeks out, but I have been a bot delayed this year...had to have an unexpected neck fusion surgery, so i am just getting started on the packing today!
We usually go for just 9 days, so we take 2 large suitcases and 2 carry-ons. It takes a long afternoon to actually pack - we sort out most of our stuff beforehand

The weather is going to be in the mid 80s,and the average low is in the 60s, so you wont need long sleeves IMO. I am leaving next wed. the 20th and I am planning on taking my shorts and tank tops and a few T-shirts. For shoes I take my flip flops for around the resort and my gym shoes for walking in the parks. This year I am doing the Party for the Senses so I do have my fancy shoes and outfit
I'm guessing about 12 hours total. I pack over 3 or 4 days a few hours a day for my stuff. But I include all the bathroom gear and extra Disney stuff in that.
DH does his in about 20 minutes and it takes about a half hour to supervise each kids packing.
We normally drive and we bring 1 suitcase each and have a duffle bag for bringing back souveniers.
I do laundry once on each trip which I hate but it's a neccessary evil.
I start about 2 weeks before, and start laying things out (mainly toiletries and such at that point). To actually pack only takes me a couple hours, if that. We went out west this summer for 2 weeks, and for the 4 of us, only took 2 big bags and a carryon bag (with a duffel packed away for souvenirs)!

I started two months before our upcoming December 1st trip. Just putting in things I want to take. That way, I won't forget anything. I have a lot of what we are not using currently.... swim suits, goggles. Some food items.... hot cocoa mix, fruit snacks, cup o noodles, etc. Don't know how many cases we will take yet. I have premier baggage with United (Mileage plus). We can take 2 bags per person with that. I will start the actual packing of the cases about 1 week prior to our departure.
I have a Disney Packing List that I keep (and I update it after every trip). BUT my packing still takes a couple of hours (more if you factor in laundry time before packing). I try to always have all my packing done 2 days before the trip so if I have forgotten something, hopefully I'll remember it before we go!!!
I have no idea. I've done alot to cut down the time it takes to gather stuff that gets packed in any bag when I travel. I have alot of stuff that's always ready to be packed as I've taken to packing by kit as much as possible. The actual puting things in a suitcase or bag packing probably doesn't take me very long it's the editing of the kits that probably eats up the most time since not every kit and not every item in a kit always goes on a trip. As for the number of bags I pack since I'm only packing for myself I pack a bag that gets checked, a carry on that goes in the overhead bin, & a personal bag that goes under the seat in front of.
lol my husband thinks im crazy but i start packing like 5 weeks before my vacations. i mean i start to pull stuff that he or my little Moo Moo will not miss or actually need for a few weeks but will need on the vacation. so that when it comes down to that week all i have to add are small things (lotion, toothpaste, tooth brush' you know stuff like that).
Yeah the actual packing isnt taking me too long, just the gathering of the items and checking them off the list, then when I think I am about done, I remember something else. Of course now I have all the suitcases laying open so as I get within a couple days away I can add the final pieces of clothing and toiletries that I need. Thanks so much for all the great advice and tips! I appreciate it!
