As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

This isn't about travel to/from Disney per se, but I'm not sure where else to post it. The Globetrotting forum doesn't get the traffic this one does.
Has anyone flown recently with no luggage? Other than maybe a book to read.
DH, DD and I will be in Washington DC in July. We're driving out. Due to an issue at work, DH will need to fly home from DC early while DD and I will drive back here and finish our trip as originally planned.
Since we'll have the car and DH won't need his "play clothes" at home, he wants to fly DCA to MPS with no luggage. Not just no checked bags -- nothing. No carry on either.
He thinks it'll be faster. I'm thinking it would raise a red flag with security and the seconday search will burn up any time he might save. Especially on a flight from Washington.
Flying w/ no luggage or carry ons? Not possible At least for me. I'd have to have a carry on just in case.
Also, you make a good point. The fact that you don't have anything w/ you may raise a red flag. A carry on shouldn't slow him down..
There should be no problems-I fly with just a briefcase or business folder on day trips from WI to MI at times-as long as he has a valid passport and registered with airlne tickets ahead of time-he should be okay.
It may raise a red flag with security. I would bring a carry-on. He has to wait in the security line anyway. It's not like they have a special line for people with no carry-ons.
If you're looking for a hidden gem for dining (mainly lunch) in DC, I highly recommend the Old Post Office building.
I have flown with nothing but a book (had my ID and a little $ in my pocket) and didn't have any issue. Of course, this was a while ago, so it may be different now, but I wouldn't worry about it. I don't really see how it would be an issue security would notice anyway. They wouldn't know if your DH had decided to check everything, because they don't ask for your baggage claims when you go through security. I know lots of people that don't hardly bring anything on the plane since they figure if they are paying to check their bag, they might as well check it all, so I don't think security would assume he just wasn't bringing anything anyway.

As long as he has something in his hand - a book, magazine, newspaper - it's unlikely anyone in DC will care. There are a ton of folks who commute in and out of that city - quick trips back to the home state for the weekend or congressional business, a day visit to a government agency, etc. While most will have at least a briefcase, it's not that odd to see someone traveling ultra-light.

He'll still have to put his shoes and any metal through the scanners, so I doubt it'll be much of a time saver. If there's multiple lines (like at MCO) he'd be able to use the business or express line. I wouldn't think it would raise any flags though.
It shouldn't raise any red flags. Especially, like Dave said, coming from Washington DC...folks fly out of there plenty with little to no luggage. He will still have to go through security lines and all.

I haven't, but a woman I worked with has. Be forewarned that she had a massive problem with it. She flew down to Florida because her father took very, very ill and she wasn't sure if he'd last until she arrived let alone allow her to pack for the trip. When she got to the airport - both here and in Florida - they said it looked too suspicious that she was flying with nothing. Even though nothing came up on the scans, they detained her for a LOT of questioning.
I flew to Little Rock with just a small tote bag with a book, a magazine, and my medications without any problems. The family had left 4 days earlier and took my other belongings with them. Like your case, I couldn't get off work long enough to drive with the family.
I travel at least every other week. While I usually have my carry on and laptop, when I visit touristy places, many people go with NOTHING having checked their bag (which as stated above, TSA would have no clue about). I have never seen anyone get hassled in security for really anything let alone traveling "light".
There had to have been some extenuating circumstances for the person mentioned above to get held up. Maybe she was trying to rush, had the appearance of being in a hurry or given her family situation, just looked like a nervous wreck (I would be). TSA is trained to see that on people and probably was a factor.
I would not sweat it one bit (just don't be all sweaty...LOL).

You have absolutely nothing to worry about my DH had to fly in the middle of our trip and fly back...he took nothing except his iphone and wallet. He didn't have a problem at all and he went to the airport less than the recommended 2 hours while everyone fiddled with their luggage the TSA asked "Sir do you have anyhting?" He said no and they allowed him to put his shoes through and empty his pockets and walk through the detector.
I really hate to say this but I think if it were me (a little brown Indian girl) with nothing...they would have searched everything I had. I have flown even with my Air Force blues on and I still got red tagged they pulled my luggage and everything out. I have gotten "randomly" selected while my husband and son went through over 6 different times. Hence why I never fly anymore.

DH has the same issue, even though he is caucasian, he likes to grow his beard pretty bushy (much to my dislike ). He was always getting "randomly" screened, his bag always had to be manually inspected. Now he says that before he will fly he will make sure to trim his beard back (yeah, I won't look like I took a homeless man on vacation).
It won't raise a red-flag. How could the TSA agent know if your husband checked some luggage? Tons of people go through security without carry-ons.
That is what I was thinking. TSA won't know if he checked or didn't check his luggage. I see people board with nothing but a book or magazine all the time.
