As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I posted this on the Travel Agent section for advice but thought there are so many travelers on here I should really have placed it over here.... so here I go again...
For some reason DH said to me a few weeks ago that instead of heading to another Caribbean island for our 2nd anniversary next summer we should go to HAWAII! This is a place I have always ALWAYS wanted to go but we couldn't really afford it for a honeymoon.
In any case, I dont know where to start! How do I pick an island?? Where do most people go? I want to see volcanoes and pineapple plantations and swim with sea turtles and see and here authentic polynesian stories and places... lol... I want to do EVERYTHING!
Where have you guys been? What do you suggest? I also want a very nice hotel with lots of amenities and we are not into cruising so thats not an option really.
Mel, we were in Maui quite a few years ago. It's a popular and expensive island. Food is good but man, cheesburgers are like $10. Pineapple can't be beat. It's just to die for. I have heard Kaui is a more "pristine" island and less tourist-y. But Maui would certainly fit the bill and if you plan right you can go whale watching which is very, very . There's also the opportunity to see the sunrise on top of a dormant volcano and ride bikes down it... as well as rent a jeep and ride through the rain forest. If you go, I think it's called Mama's or Mama's fish house but it's definitely THE place to eat.
I was thinking of waiting until Aulani opened but I just cant! all of those things you did sound wonderful!!! Oh my goodness! I am SO excited!!! Where did you stay in Maui? Do you mind me asking? I think when we pick an island we are going to need some hotel recommendations!
I am going to look into Kaui... DH likes things a little more mellow thats for sure. Sometimes I like the touristy bits because it is so very easy to access places to eat and shop. Plus there are probably so many areas of every island that are uninhabited still!

If we were to go back to Hawaii I think I would pick Kaui because it's supposed to be more unspoiled than Maui. Maui was beautiful though, don';t get me wrong and like anywhere you can decide to chill or do the touristy stuff.
Let me know what you decide. Whichever island you would pick it would be amazing for sure!
Thanks again ladies. I have also toyed with the Disney resort... but I want to go sooner rather than later and I don't think I would want to go the first summer its open-- it will be PACKED! Which would mean not just pushing back to 2012, but to 2013... I certainly cant wait that long! LOL! But it WILL be an excuse to go back.
I am going to head to Barnes and Noble later and check out some guides. Maybe there will be something for those who are in my position. Ya know? A place to START... afterall I have like 15 months to plan! lol!
I am narrowing the islands down thats for sure... def don't think Molokai or Lanai are for us. A little TOO secluded with and we are not golfers or island hoppers as I mentioned earlier. That still leaves Maui and Kauai... plus Oahu and Big Island. So slowly but surely. I guess I should keep in mind that Aulani is on Oahu if I ever wanted to plan to return to visit the disney resort. Hmmm....
Okay I think I have def got it down to Maui or Kauai.
I bought the Fodor's guide book which is nice and straight forward and I can def rule out the Big Island. Plus Oahu seems nice but VERY touristy-- even more than Maui since Honolulu is there. We can save all the Oahu stuff for another trip since like I said I am sure I will fall in love with it and Aulani will always be there for a Disney touch. lol.
I may actually head back to the bookstore and exchange the Hawaii guide for a Maui one since thats what I am leaning towards.

I don't have any info to offer..... But I've been keeping an eye on this thread since I spotted it yesterday- I won't be going nearly as soon as you, but hopefully in a few years...... So, be sure to post all the info you find
Okay so I knew you guys would appreciate this....
I went into Barnes & Nobles (again) since its right down the street and I had originally bought the Frommer's Hawaii guide I kind wanted to exchange it for the Maui specific one! So anyways... I go in and its Educator discount week.... so I sign up for their new card and was able to get 25% off my whole purchase!
So... instead of just one guide for my $23... I got TWO! woot woot!

We have been to hawaii three times and stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village (Rainbow Tower) each time. It is, or at least was, a beautiful place. We have not been there since 1993. We really liked Oahu and all the history of the island. We went to the Big Island for a few days and were pretty much bored to death. Seeing the volcano was interesting but not real exciting. Very hot and had a bad smell of sulfer. If we went today I would still go to Oahu. We want to take our kids either next year or the year after. Hopefully we can stay at Aulanai.

Thanks for the info! One of the hotels that seems really highly recommended on Maui is also a Hilton... everyone seems to rave about them in Hawaii! I feel like everywhere I read says the same things you said about the Big Island... if an excursion day is accessible do it, but other than that you can see other volcanoes/lava/greenery elsewhere. I also think Oahu would be a nice vacation but would like to save it for a time I can try Aulani. I am sure I will feel like you do once we go and want to return. Is there a certain company you used for day trips and whatnot when you were in Oahu?
