“Are we going to Canada or Disney World?” PTR - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

DH 36 – He loves me and in turn has come to appreciate Disney. He even bought a Mickey sweatshirt last year (probably because it was 33 degrees!)
Me 37 – I have been going to WDW since 1973 and over 35 trips logged. I have fond memories of MANY family trips to Fort Wilderness – it’s like home. I can even smell it as I type this!
DS 5 - (Turns 6 in April) – Doesn’t share my enthusiasm for the world. His world is ALL about dinosaurs and Star Wars. This is his 2nd trip.
DD 4 – A girl with a love of all things Princess. She wears her princess dresses with rain boots and is quite sassy. (she gives Tink a run for her money! ) This will be her 2nd trip.
A bit of background …
Last year I planned a surprise trip for my kids.
I planned and I planned. I ordered the planning DVD, personalized maps, and gift baskets; I scoured stores and e-bay looking for all things Disney (to give my kids as gifts from Mickey while we were there); I wrote letters from Mickey and friends for each day (to go with the gifts I had purchased); I planned an elaborate scheme of having a letter and balloons delivered to our house announcing the trip; I waited on hold and called back MANY times to get the perfect ADR’s; I made lists and lists and spreadsheets galore. I would dream every night of how perfect this trip was going to be. I was finally taking my own family to Disney World. A dream come true!
Flash-forward to the morning of “THE DELIVERY” –
DS says “I hate Mickey Mouse. Why do we HAVE to go THERE?” I want to stay home (and proceeds to run to his room).
DD says “Wow, can I be a princess right NOW?”
I had two crying kids and a fuming DH on my hands. One kid who wanted to stay home and another one who wanted to be a princess NOW. DH was screaming at DS about how lucky he was to EVEN be going to Disney … And, we needed to get to the airport in ½ hour! After a LONG and sometimes excruciating flight we landed at MCO. I was smiling from ear to ear and couldn’t wait to smell that Florida smell (you know the one I mean!) DS was pouting, DD wanted something to eat and DH was asking me what we were thinking.
Ah … welcome to our VACATION from H.E. double hockey sticks!
The weather during our trip was unseasonably COLD. This of course did not add to the Magic. We stayed at ASMV and by the end of the week DH and I decided we were NEVER staying in a room that small again. (at least not with our kids!) After everyone got into the groove: DS eventually decided he couldn’t figure out how to get home (although he did try to come up with ever scenario he could link of. Short of my parents driving 2 days to pick him up!), DD was elated and bouncing off the walls , DH was tired and crabby (and, did I mention that he was in pain from twisting his knee at hockey –the NIGHT before we left? ) and I was ignoring all of them – I was in Disney World, after all! And as a bonus to this not so dreamy vacation ... on the last day we ended up at Celebration Hospital with DS getting stitches in his lip.
OH HOW I COULDN'T WAIT TO BE HOME AND AWAY FROM THESE CRAZY PEOPLE!!!
January 2010 …
DS: “Mom?”
Me: “Yes?”
DS: ”When are we going back to Dismee World?”
Me: “You are joking, right?”
DS: “No, I had the best time there. Well, maybe not the stitches part but everything else was so cool.”
Me: “You are joking, right?”
DS: “Come on Mom. You LOVE Dismee World. Wouldn’t you LOVE to go back there?”
Me: “UM”
DS: “I’ll buy you a Mickey bar with my own money!”
Me: “Let me ask Daddy, okay?”
DS: “No, don’t ask Daddy. He will say no because we were so bad last year.”
Me: “I guess you should ask Daddy and PROMISE him that you won’t be bad this year.”
DS: “Okay!”
DS: “DADDY – Mommy told me to ask you if we can go to Dismee World. She says she promises to be a good girl this year!”
So, after some discussion and my happening on to the 40% room discount on deluxe Disney hotels – WE ARE GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!
We told the kids a few weeks ago and they are SO excited.I am planning, planning, planning but this time with my kids help. We are all planning this one together (In hope that DS will go with the flow a little better this year!)
DD tells everyone we see that she is going to CANADA!!!! Yes, you heard right…. CANADA! Since we live close to the USA/Canada border people just look at her and roll their eyes and say “That’s great! Have a good time.” We were correcting her but now it’s cute!
DS is VERY concerned about the prospect of going to Canada and not Disney World! He is bent on getting his sister to say it right! “We are going to Disney World, right Mom?”
“Yes honey, and Mommy promises to be a good girl!”

And I just have to add that not only did I literally lol here at work after reading this, but my DH called about 2 mins later and I read it to him and he started laughing too!
Busy bee, I live near Canada also. Near Buffalo NY. We are coming home to WDW May 16-21, 2010. Pretty much all I have done lately is plan, plan, plan. In fact I have been informed often by my kids that I am obsessed! Maybe I am. I do have a defense though. Except for my DD all I hear from everyone else in my family, is, you choose, we are sure we will like what you pick. Well thank you so much. This is the first trip to WDW for my DH and his children. DD and I visited in the early 90's. I am sure we will have a fantastic time, but I am a little nervous. DH and I are outnumbered. 5 teenagers to just us. LOL . I will post a pre trip report.
