As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I really love seeing the photo's people post here. I am eternally grateful to PP's like Lizardcop, Princess Sharon and Cheryl and everyone else who can actually take a beautiful photo in the Parks. I certainly can't - my family tell me I am incapable of actually seeing what the camera lens is pointing at
Prime example was a shot I took in the hotel room. It was supposed to be of my toddler grandson but I failed to notice my daughter changing out of her jeans in the background. I got a lovely photo of half my grandsons face and the whole of DD's somewhat curvy rear end. I won't post that one if you don't mind but here are some of my other efforts.

If you click on the thumbnails you can see them fuller size (but why would you bother). I have more photo's like this than are actually worth looking at sadly.
A lot of times people who say they can't take a good photo are the ones that maye use their camera once or twice a year...and of course, those are the times you want good photos. If you feel like your photos aren't what they want to be, maybe you just need to become more comfortable with your camera. Go on a photo safari, nothing special just walk around your house, a park, whatever and take photos. Play with the different settings and see how things work. Try different angles. Flash or no flash? That way, if you get comfortable with your cameras settings and such you won't fumble or feel rushed when it comes to those important shots.
My other advice is, a nice point and click digital camera is your friend. Take the picture, look a tthe screen, don't like it? Take another. 35mm is no ones friend anymore.
Also, with the age of digital, take the picture several times. You can always delete! I'll take four or five shots sometimes of the same thing from slightly different angles or slightly different settings and delete the ones I don't like.
I also think the idea of practicing is a good one. every time it snows or we take a walk in our woods, I take my camera. I don't keep most of the pictures, but I try new angles and light shots. You never know what you might come up with!
I take plenty of lousy shots, but having a digital camera allows me to delete the bad ones and just save the ones that turn out really good. I also do like Sue and take several shots of what I want and usually one of them turns out pretty decent.
Thanks for the compliment, but I can tell you we take lots of lousy photos that are out of focus, not particularly well composed, where you look at it after and realise there's something in shot that shouldn't be, that sort of thing. The way we get so many good shots is to take lots and lots and just pick the best.
I take lots of bad pictures, trust me. As has been said already, take lots of pictures, digital is cheap. Also, check your pictures after you take them to see if it's close to what you want, if not, try again and again and again!!!
The first photo above looks like the flash fired, but your subject(s) were beyond the range of the flash. That is a hard one to overcome, but you'll just have to get closer to the subject. If you're using a DSLR, you can get an external flash to extend the distance, but they don't make them for most point-and-shoots.
The second photo looks like there was no flash at all, a common problem with many people. They're afraid of "blinding" people, or they don't want to distract them, thus all of the pictures they take are too dark, or blurred. With a DSLR, you can increase the ISO to help, though it also increases the "noise" in the picture. Some point-and-shoot cameras have this option, sometimes called high ISO. My point-and-shoot flash is set to AUTO all the time so it will fire when it's needed...
In all honesty, the best thing to do is get your camera manual, take the time to read it and play with the camera at the same time, and learn what your camera can and cannot do. Take lots and lots of pictures, that's how I got better... That and 45+ years of experience

Thank you all for the tips and advice. I could certainly do with a lot more technical know how but I think some people have a natural eye - I really don't think I do.
Not making excuses but I think a better camera would help and get me part of the way there - if anyone can recommend a decent camera for an less than expert photographer please feel free.
In the meantime I will enjoy what's on offer on the boards - like LizardCops castle shots which I was sighing over earlier.
You had me falling down laughing with your photo description. I've been there! I learned a long time ago that every shot will not be perfect, and just have fun!
I've got a Sony camera that I love--its relatively easy to use, but most of the shots I've admired on the boards have been taken with a Canon--so when i upgrade that is what I'm going to buy!
