As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

during the Opening Ceremonies last night, the Canadian flag bearer was wearing a scarf that looked like a Hudson Bay blanket. It was different than the scarf worn by the rest of the Candian Olympic team.
Do you know if or where those are available for purchase?
My ancestors came from Scotland with the Hudson Bay Co and I'd love to have one.

I tried to find a picture of it online to see exactly what it looks like but it sounds a lot like mine. You could try HBC.com but if it is like the one that I have, I don't think it's available anymore. It would be called the Signature Collection (or something similar - maybe Heritage Collection) I got mine in the summer of 2008 and I looked for another one before Christmas that year and couldn't find them at any of our Bay stores.
I know it was mentioned that the aboriginal tribes donated some of the articles of clothing that some of the flagbearers wore. Not sure if this was one of them.
I haven't seen that scarf for sale. Used to have a blanket like that. Donna you are so lucky to have the scarf, I haven't noticed any scarfs with the orrig. Hudson Bay design ever!
I too noticed it was different. It may just be a Hudson's Bay scarf and not part of the official Olympic outfit. If I can find anything about it I will post here.
They had lots of the scarves when I was in The Bay on Wednesday, by Friday when DH decided he did want some gear, the place was a zoo and picked over. No scarves left - I do recall them being pretty pricey though.
Yeah, those Hudson Bay scarves are pricey. Well, anything in their Signature Collection and/or the Olympic clothing is expensive. My scarf was $50. For a scarf! But I absolutely loved it, it looks terrific with my navy wool coat and I knew I could never afford a $500 4-Point blanket, so I figured the scarf was a bargain.
I just found a picture of Clara Hughes leading the Canadians in and my scarf is not the same as hers. My stripes are narrower and near the ends and the rest of the scarf is plain creamy coloured. I kind of like the lumberjack-look buffalo plaid scarves the rest of the Canadians were wearing. What I really want is one of the Hudson's Bay Olympic sweaters with the stags heads and maple leaves, but they sold out almost immediately.
I never saw the lumberjack check scarves. I did see a long-sleeve tee and a jacket with that print. As well as the sweater you're looking for. Again, they had just about everything, except maybe all sizes, on Wednesday when I was the only one poking around the stuff.
By Friday, it was a nuthouse both in the Bay and Zellers. I did manage to get to some stuff on Saturday morning before the crowds hit - picked up a couple more pair of mitts.
When I was in the Bay I noticed they had a Polo shop and asked the clerk if he had any US Olympic stuff. He told me they did, but they had to ship it off to Vancouver. He also said, in his very nice British accent, that they had complaints(!!) about the fact that they were selling US Olympic stuff. Geez, relax people it's the freakin' Olympics!
Also, I can't find the nice US Moose hat that is selling for $75 USD - it seems to be sold out. Sadness.
