Hello! I am a bonnafide "ride weenie" . I stress and frett and get quite worried about rides that I don't know what is about to happen. With that said, after 2 trips, I managed to conquer ALL rides at WDW....leaving my trip in Sept 2009 with my new favourite ride: TOT!! YES, I ended up LOVING that ride and in the end, it really was not as bad as I had phsyced myself up to think it would be! I am very glad I tried it.

My next trip will be this August with my 14 yo son and myself. We are starting our trip with the first part (Aug 21-26) at Disney World and then heading over to Universal staying PBH club level for 2 nights (Aug 26/27th). Our departure day is August 28th, at 5:45 pm....so I will have some time on the 28th before lunch to hit a few attractions prior to having to head out to the airport!

With all that info said....I am not sure how much of Universal rides I will really like. I definitely know Hulk, DD, Dr. Doom's freefall, and a few other "hardcore" thrill rides are OUT for me!!! Maybe my son will do Dueling Dragons/or whatever the "rethemed" coaster is at WWoHP, but I will sit it out. Even my 14yo is dead set against doing The HULK (and he was brave enough to do Manta with his Dad in Sept!!!).....I am waffling on trying the Revenge of The Mummy, because dark,death "theme" and scary things popping out at me, scares the bejeesies out of me!!! I have heard it is a fun coaster, and one many seem to handle without too many problems. I am really scared to try it though. I think it is my desperate need to "know what is in store" that is making me waffle. Can someone talk me through what happens on this ride :
(ie: are there any loops/steep drops/bugs or creepy crawlies that touch you/jump out at you, quick unexpected changes of direction (like EE when you go backwards [I love EE, by the way!]...... ) If I had a knowledge of what happens / something to compare it too I think I could handle it much better.

I don't do well with not knowing what to expect, For example: ITTBAB and Honey I shrunk The Audience, I had to know EXACTLY what happened, and I was able to do these shows with some accomodating so as to avoid any sudden-sensory surprises. The CM in ITTBAB was nice enough to let me stand by her at the end so I could avoid the bugs under my butt!!! I don't care if it is "just air blowing" I hate the unexpected tactile experiences, it really is scary to me!!

So if you've ever done some of these rides, especially Revenge of the Mummies (which is the ONE ride that may be doable if I am convinced I could handle it)....could you please give me the lowdown truth about what the ride is like??? You would be helping this "fradey cat" out a whole big bunch!!!!! I don't want my son to think I am a stick in the mud or too

Given what you've said, I think the Mummy may not be your kind of ride. But, given your love for TOT, you might want to give Dr Dooms Fearfall a go. It's not as scary as it looks and you are strapped in securely. The only thing about it is don't bother if there is a long line because the ride only lasts like 20 seconds.

It actually starts in the queue. Sometimes there are actors who will hide around a corner and scare you. There are stilt walkers who like to act very creepy. During the ride itself there are things that pop up at you, an abrupt stop at a dead end, a massive amount of bugs projected onto a wall and puffs of air to make you feel like they are crawling on you, there's a brief trip backwards although it's not as long as EE. And there's fire over your head in one area. It gets warm and the smell of accellerant is strong. The roller coaster part is in the dark, I believe, although the actual coaster part is very short compared to the rest of the ride. Try checking YouTube for some videos of the ride to see if you can get an idea of what it's like.

I second checking out you tube for the video. I have not ridden ToT. That is the only ride I have not riddent at WDW. I have ridden revenge of the mummy and really like that one. It doesn't give me motion sickness like a lot of the other rides do.

Do check out YouTube - there are lots of videos of the rides. Have you done Expedition Everest at AK? The Mummy is a pretty similar coaster as to the height, speed, turns, etc. It is so fun! There's not a whole lot that jumps out at you, it's more just a fast ride. I thought it was interesting that Donna has experienced team members scaring people in line, I've never experienced anything like that.

Definitely try Men in Black and Spiderman - they are both fairly tame.

IMHO, Dr. Doom is much less scary than ToT.

We didn't experience anyone scaring people in line for the Mummy, either - however, we used the Express Pass line at a slow time of the year. The coaster part of the ride is pretty tame, but there is fire in parts, as well as the appearance of bugs crawling over the walls, as mentioned. I would give it a try - it is a VERY neat and fun ride.

Oh boy - how'd I win the bonus scares? We definitely had people jumping out from around corners! I just looked back at the dates that happened though and that was in '05 and '06 so maybe it's something they've stopped doing? (Has it really been that long since I've been there??!! We absolutely have to go back this year!!)

I would agree that The Mummy has a lot of similarities to EE. I don't remember the drops being as long in The Mummy though and I think it's a darker ride. And looking back at my post, I realize that I made it sound like there are things popping out at you throughout the ride and that is not the way it is. It is a really fun ride, just remember it's based on the movie The Mummy. I also agree that you could probably do MiB and Spider Man - although be aware that Spider Man is a rocky ride and has one part that seems like you are falling, although the reality is that it is a simulator. If you can do Splash Mountain, you can do Dudley Do Right and Jurassic Park. In August you might also want to do Popeye and Bluto's Bilge Rat Barges although you WILL get soaked (to the skin. I'm serious. ) so wear bathing suits or quick drying clothes and no white t-shirts.

Well, I may just end up doing it like I did TOT and RnRC. I will have to see how brave I feel that day!
